A quick question

Right.....hi guys.

This question is not directed at anyone in particular or about certain people but.... after reading a few of the posts on this forum today, some posts and replies are obviously people trying to impress others so they come up with some 'overly detailed' (obviously taken from other peoples websites or bloody dictionary definitions) contributions to the conversations. It's just so obvious that these people are fake when you look at the other posts they make.

So my question is.....

As a percentage, how many members of this forum do you think are not genuine (i.e. full of shit)?

My guess is about 50%. Based on the fact that I know and respect a number of member's views here but I can tell the bullshitters a mile off.

What are your estimations.....

I'd be more optimistic, I'll say about 30%. I can think of three or four in particular that are full of shit, but I think for the most part folks 'round these here parts aren't fake.

Bulshit reply. Oh I love South Africa. I especially love the fact that the population is 44.8million and the birth rate is 33.58 births/1,000 population. But the most suprising this to me was that it covers 1,219,912 sq km. I haven't got this from a website.....honest.

Oh yeah.....by the way, here's my picture (insert a pic of Jonny Depp). This is me on a bad day. And here's the Mrs....(choose a good pic). etc etc.

I couldnt agree more. I feel that most people are always trying to be someone else. They follow a formula - either from music or tv. yes these things influence you, but most people dont mold themselves from life experience. Its from watching something and simply saying "wow, thats who i want to be like"



but many people dont flow with what their life has molded them into.

The hip hop culture comes to mind. Originally it was great...social movement....positive msgs, etc

now its a matter of ignorance(not all but alot of the crap floating around).
SO you have all these people embracing the culture because its so easy to do so.
Listen to the music..talk their lingo...and act tuff....the gangstar rap culture is about being a hard ass. So people listne to that shit...wathc scarface 10000x and then think that they are the legit tuff guy gangsters they always looked up to. Without living the life..or anything. They just pop on 50 cent.

thats why rap is so popular...its all about being tuff and making money...but its a false image..as only .00001% have that lifestyle.

but it doesnt stop the popularity of it from spreadling like wildfire.

Now, I have a large vocabulary from writing and upper level English courses that I've taken, both in high school and university levels. However, I don't think I'm a goddamn genius because I can use the word "loquatious" in a sentence. My parents are both intelligent, and so is my brother.

Also, we have people that post without thinking, but I don't think there are any really and trully learning deficient folks around here. I mean, if you can construct a "lofty sentence," then you've obviously have some natural shine. If it's a poorly constructed sentence, then you've got shine in potentia...or something.

When I sit down to write something I can never get my thoughts in order enough to put together a well constructed sentence, let alone a whole paragraph like some people on here. I read some posts here and think "Damn, why didn't I think of saying that?"

I'm also the opposite of you Taylorsmommy. I have a hard time with verbal communication partially because I'm a little bit shy in person, and also because of the things that happen to me when I'm speaking.

I stutter a little bit. I get nervous, so it's like a domino effect. I'm better than I was, though. University helped me with that. I took a lot of seminar courses where I was required to speak.

I've been thinking about this thread a lot as the day has worn on. I'm afraid the purpose that it serves, while entertaining, may divert more people into silent positions. It's definitely made me a little more conscientious about what I say. I certainly don't want to seem full of shit all of the time.

Could you define "bullshit?" I'm serious. For this thread to really make sense, we need a working definition of "bullshit." That way, I can be even more attentive to what I am posting.:)

My interpretation was bending the truth in order to better suit your point (or just out and out lying). That, I guess, leads to the more general idea of using those lies to create a false image of who you really are. So, since we go by personalities more than physical displays here, if a person's word is bullshit then that person is bullshit.

I really wouldn't worry about it. Why be self-conscious about what you say? There are people who consistently say things that come off as less than intelligent on here...and they don't seem to watch what THEY say ;)
I just don't think you should try and "dumb yourself down" for fear of people thinking you sound too intelligent or something...

I definately don't think you're full of shit b/c you have a good vocabulary. Everyone on here types in a different style. As long as it's genuine, reflecting who you really are...and you're not elaborating just for the sake of it...you shouldn't feel the need to hide it. :)

I think a person can come across as a complete jackass with, or without an "impressive" vocabulary.
I dunno, I like to think that my command of the language is at least proficient, but on numerous occasions I've been confronted by people that evidently feel threatened by this...I've been told things like I'm condescending, or think I'm better than others...etc simply because I throw around a few more syllables, and take the time to speak in more of an eloquent manner than some others do.
In all honesty, I hate anyone thinking they can judge me one way or the other on account of how I talk/type...it reeks of confidence issues, and it's just bullshit that's more often than not slung by the people that don't really know you in the first place...it's like some weird, warped kinda bigotry.
I use spell check, I don't claim perfection.
I like to express my point to the fullest and most accurate extent at times, and people I've encountered in the past acting as though you should be ashamed of this, well...they're petty asses, no more to say. Sure, if I'm arguing with someone, I can be an asshole and point out spelling/grammar mistakes...but I generally refrain from doing so unless someone that clearly can't hold their own, tries to...and when I do, it's usually so I can laugh at their reactions some more.

As for falsely representing yourself, lying or "inventing" facts about yourself in order to be preceived as something you're not...it just seems too pointless to bother with. I myself don't pretend. Most everyone that knows me, and even some of those that don't, know that I'm a 24 year old guy that's fucked around throughout a large portion of his life, and is just starting to get things together now. Cooking enthusiast who's on his way to being a chef, that digs horror and foreign films, loves animals, smokes weed here and there, hates crowds, and preferrs to just hang with friends watching movies and listening to music than to go "out" to a club/pub, or any of that other shit. Most also know I'm pretty laid-back, and I don't hesitate to say up front what I mean....sure, sometimes I get in the kind of moods that can have me zoom from zero to complete CUNT within seconds, yep...occasionally I take shit out on the wrong people, but hey, I always make it right with those that are worth the time, and I generally try to be cool with most people. Yeah, I can shit-stir, but hey...I never try and deny any of this stuff.
So yeah, those that know fuck-all about me probably have some idea by now, no lies, no bullshit, no pretending to be something I'm not, as has always been the case.
But yeah, I've seen some obvious misrepresentations...but essentially I see no point in the end. Lies are harder to keep up with than the truth, and if you intend to actually make any friends in life, you only make doing so hard on y'self.

As for the percentage question, no number % , but I have three people in particular that come to mind here, but there's no need mentioning who they are or anything...I'm not talking about liars in particular, or those that misrepresent themselves, those that are full of themselves, or generally "full of shit"...because those that I'm thinking of are in fact a little of each.

I know all about using spell check, and I appreciate people who do and openly admit it. I use spell check, a dictionary, and a thesaurus. It just goes back to my days writing essays and articles.

I'm sorry I got confused. I was worried that "bullshit" would be termed as being silly, which I do frequently.

I really try really good and hard not to misrepresent myself to the crew here. I mean, it ultimately depends on the thread. If the topic is silly, then I try to take that tone. If the thread is a bit more serious, then I try to put on that hat. I wish to be nothing more the completely candid when I represent myself, even if that means debasing my character and exposing a few of my many flaws.

I think you're exactly right, Dolly. Though I usually proof my posts, because I'm anal, I don't go to the extremes. Also, spelling is not one of my stronger suits. People make typos. Some people are in a hurry, there are so many reasons for simple mistakes, and since this isn't grammar class, who fuckin' cares? Okay, well, I used to, but now. I'm fyne;) :D

Thanks for expressing your opinion. Its interesting to see that a number of you have certain members in mind regarding bullshitters. But i suppose we'll never know whether we've chosen the same people. Its just good to know that its not just me being too critical and a number of others also think theres a few people on here who are trying just a bit too hard to impress everyone. Let 'em carry on I say......makes me laugh reading their opinions on every subject under the sun.
