If anyobody remember the "Ugly people shop at Walmart" thread... Ugly people shop at walmart because the majority of ugly people are poor. I know "shallowness" is not a nice personality trait in most people's eyes, but neither is ignorance. Society cares. If they didn't care about appearance and make shallow assumptions, nobody would have a hard time getting a job because of how they looked (piercings, tats etc.)

On average, rich people live longer. Dealt with a much harder life, poor people are more prone to suicide, drug addiction, crime etc. On average, rich people are smarter. Having all the educational oportunities that a lot of poor people aren't afforded.

Isn't it depressing to know how much your life depends on your parents? It's rare for a child born into a poor family to ever be rich. I mean it happens, but it's not nearly in the same range as rich parents and rich kids.

I used to be so against plastic surgery, but I've come to the decision, that not only do I accept extreme attempts to attain beauty, but I applaud them. It must take guts to leave your face/body in a surgeons hands. I think most people underestimate the power of beauty, and can't understand any pursuit of it that goes above and beyond the norm.

On a scale of importance, where do you think beauty lies? What about intelligence? What about kindness and being a "good person"

I think it would be interesting to see what order the three are placed in.

Of course, money is always the most important dimension of social interaction. Wealth governs not only how we see and relate to each other, but also how we interact with ourselves and society as a whole. Money is everything; it's a sad state of affairs, but this is the nature of things.

As for myself, intelligence is the most important trait, followed by beauty, and then the "good person" factor. At this point in my life, if I can't share an intellectual conversation with a potential partner, I write them off. I've no patience for dullards. Beauty fades in time, but a quick wit doesn't.

Beauty before everything else for me. I make fun of fat people on a daily basis.

So does my husband, but I found a swift smack to the head is a deterent sometimes.

Beauty attracts,no doubt...would I have married my husband if he was butt ugly?
I am not sure, because I noticed his appearance first, then found him extremely funny, then realized he was very intelligent.

But I do know this,I have met some really beautiful men and women but after talking to them to an extent and noticing they were complete assholes....I just don't have time for that shit.
My friends come in all shapes and sizes and colors, and I keep them around because they are really great people-period.

And as far as getting ahead in life if you are attractive-yes,it's true.We did mock murder trails in a physcology class and the prettier the person-the less harsh the sentence, 9 times out of 10. Sad but true.

Well, I mean, physical beauty is not limited to a nice face or pretty eyes. It can also be a nice butt and many other things too! Even a finger or a wrist and a little bitty toe can be cute.

What surprises me is how susceptible we are. No matter how intellectual we are, most of us are suckers for nice physical proportions. I am frequently startled watching old movies. I might see a recorded image of someone's physical attractiveness from sixty or a hundred years ago, even, and can still be awed by it. And it's not even the real person--just some light that recorded on film emulsion decades ago. The actual person could be a skeleton, or just some dust, but a recording of their beauty can live on, frozen in a medium.

I used to date a girl back in the 80's who has been in a lot of horror films and so on. That was quite some time ago, nearly twenty years back! She doesn't look the same now, and neither do I; something happened to us over the years and we got older.

When I see her in a movie that was made back when we were seeing each other, it's really haunting...it's weird...it's like looking through a window, looking back through time, and there she is, sitting in the car or whatever, walking around...and it's HER from back then, but that version of her has changed and is gone now...that image of her is just a celluloid memory...and you know, I keep wanting to go back and see her in person the way she was, but that's impossible. All that's left is the image.

Fuck beauty and all the dumb stereotypes it enforces.

Rich "beautiful" assholes are the truely ugly people in this world a lot of the time.

I got told I already voted on this. Hey, beauty is great, but personality and intelligence don't wrinkle over time (and face it, guys, we're sure as hell not getting any prettier either). If you're lucky enough to find a good thing to hang on to, I'd suggest doing so. Sure implants might last longer than flesh and blood, but in the long run I'd rather have someone I still want to be with in my twilight days rather than some moron like Anna Nicole Smith flashing her boobs at me for every page of my will I sign over to her. Crossing my fingers that my mind is not as weak as my useless flesh by then.
None of this is meant to be a stab at you, MD, if you're taking it that way. I always admire you're intelligence, you're a good looking girl (albeit too young for my tastes) and anyone who shows enough personality to ruffle the feathers of the norm will always have my blessing. Anyone can piss people off by having a contrary opinion, few can back it up with enough informed arguement. You might not be the girl guys would bring home to mom and the world is probably a more interesting place because of that. ;)

I like smart people. They're fun. Dolly, I know that you're right when you say "society cares." It's a shame, but they do. Thank the Goddess most of us Westerners have to go with arranged marriages. Otherwise, we young gals would be in deep shit. I say we, but I'd be more like Katrine in Shakespeare's "Taming of the Srew." I would hope others would too.

Nova and I are having waffles, but not REAL waffles...the waffles are in our MINDS! These are superior to real ones because they are, like, digital. They do not decay with the passage of time, you see.

Anyone can have ANY kind of waffle they wish. But I recommend the Honey Crunch waffle with bacon on the side. If you don't eat bacon, there is a soy substitute version that's very good.

Remember, this is all virtual, so none of it will spoil your figure. That means you can have as many waffles as you want! That means I'm a decent human being, heh heh heh!

That's funny,I was thinking that too...how fattening waffles are,and it's kinda sick because even after all these years I can still calculate the calories...and then how long to work out to burn those calories off.

I know a lot of people who've grown up poor and now make great money for two simple reasons. They save a lot because they know the value of things, growing up poor helps them appriciate things. Also, they don't want their kids to grow up like they did. With so many educational assistance programs you're better off poor and/or a minority.

I can safely say ALL my "minority friends" will disagree with that.

Bill Gates, Hugh Heffner, Larry Flint, Paris Hilton, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorcese, Quentin Tarrentino, Penny Marshall, Roseanne Barr, Ellen Degeneres, Rosey O'Donnell and Donald Trump (plus MANY more) are all rich for many different reasons, so I don't really get the 'good looks/wealth' correlation...

Anyway...I, personally, believe that intelligence is more important than anything else.....As long as I have enough money to pay my bills, and take care of my kids, I'm happy, so 'wealth' is not a big factor in MY life.....And, looks don't last, so what's the point?.....I'd rather spend time with a homely, intelligent, honest person that I could communicate with, than a gorgeous, ignorant asshole that can't form a sentence BECAUSE they have spent their entire lives relying on their looks, and have absolutely nothing else to offer...
