We need a place in the music board where we aspiring musicians can share our stuff, speak of other projects, give and recieve positive criticism. The filmakers have a whole board so lets keep this thread alive alright.

Thanks! We don't usually consider ourselves "punk," we're more "Vamp rock and roll" or "Horror rock and roll," but I appreciate the feedback!
All you bands in Phoenix, post something! We could set up some shows...

Hey were in Texas, thats not TOO far still in the south. Dont have the WHOLE band though (even tho i write it all, i cant play it all alone ya know), maybe we could cordinate a tour. Another band (female friends of ours) are starting a record label down here to produce albums and coordinate shows and tour support. Maybe we could extend the tours to arizona and louisiana and mississippi ya know more of the south. a HORROR.com tour would kick ass.

I don't know if Mz. Pakman would be available for tour anytime soon (we mostly play locally), but we could probably help set up a show if any cool rockin' bands come to NYC.

Alright, i finally got my instrumental version of one of my songs done. I had to record it instrumental for a project and it was my first attempt using this new CD recorder i got. Came out pretty good, better than i expected considering it has not mastering and just a bit of compression. Its one of the longer tracks so bear with it, it DOES need the vocals to carry it better. all in all it sounds pretty good tho.
Tell me what you guys think.Rightclick and save as...
Never Again (instrumental Mix) (http://www.texasmartialarts.net/longinus-neveragain_instro.mp3)
Oh yeah, this is no indication of what my scoring would sound like guys, thats alot different. This is my band Longinus..... i guess i should get a website up huh? So Bunn, and triefy, any work i do with you wouldn't necessarily be caked with "industrial dirt" like this is.....unless you wanted it:D

i would be vocals and song writer of a band currentley without a permanent name, performed live once...50 people actualy showed up, considering its a tiny place like norway it wasnt that bad at all.
at the moment our name is enigmatic.
style cant realy be defined, mixture of death\black\symphonic and of course norse\power.

Aahh yes. I just broke off with my band a few weeks ago. We played one of our biggest gigs, and then I broke away because nobody was helping me with the band.
I played guitar and did backing vocals. So right now, I put an ad online in the city paper for a singer. My first love was singing, although I've been playing guitar for 8 years.
So yup, otherwise there's nothing going on with me and bands as of now. :(

Nice, im the exact opposite. I used to sing and be the front man of our old band, but now i wanna focus on guitar and do back up vocals, and i gotta find the right person to be the frontman of our band.

And how.
When I started my other band, a friend and I were doing it. He was playing bass, and I had lead guitar and backing vocals.(I was going to be the original vocalist, but I changed for some reason) Well it was harder than hell to find anyone that lived near me, because everyone that played the shit we needed I either hated, or they didn't like the music that I need.
Eventually we found some really young kid at my school who had the exact same taste, and he was really good for being 15. Then he knew a singer, and we used him. Then I found a drummer months later. From there it went pretty good. We played at a lot of places. But then our bassist was getting lazy and didn't seem to want to do anything anymore, although he wouldn't admit it. Nobody but the singer and I were trying to keep the band together.
So we played this huge show new years eve, and then after that I told them it's over. And they all agreed. Plus the music wasn't exactly what I was expecting it. I think it was what I expected when we first started playing, but eventually I started getting into more Death/Gore/grindcore metal. So there you have it.

punk is infact easy on the guitar part, you just need a fast right hand to pick the strings
but the drum is hard to perform so fast, it's a typical high noted drumstyle
nothing like metal

I mostly use software, and some hardware synths, drummachines & regular instruments, such as guitar & bass.. Mostly depending on what project I'm working with, and what we're aiming for.
I've thought about getting a BCRich custum, but I've never had the chance to try them out..

I'm a fuckin fast ass motherfucker on the drums. I love playing. Especially when you can incorperate the double bass pedals.....I always say that you can never get enough DBP in a song.
As I Lay Dying has some crazy DBP action, that band has some crazy drumming.
But since I don't have a drumset anymore, well I can't play it in a band. But usually I mess around with my bands drumset, I love playing.

Nice Jrole, you got some crazy drums in there. I personally would pull the guitars up a bit in the mix, but thats just me. I mean you can hear in all my shit that im a guitarist and being the most secure in my guitar playin, im most likely to keep them above everything else. Maybe i just need to become a better drummer.....
Nice shit tho, im gonna back track the thread and listen to the other 2 you posted. Think they are workin yet??

Thanks! :D
I just played around with my instruments & progs in that song, and didn't spend much time mixing it.. I just wanted to try out the drums, and that's why they're so loud compared to the rest of the instruments..
Hehe, yeah, ppl tend to mix their main-instrument louder than the other instruments..
The other songs should be up & working now too.. And don't expect them to sound the same, hehe...
Do you have more songs online, btw?
I've got "neveragain_instro", "noodle" & "soundtrack" so far..
Has anyone in here tried the Line6 Variax-guitars yet?
I've heard they're totally amazing (the mp3's sure are), but I've never had the chance to try them out myself.. :

Motropolis and Morose Spirits are pretty fucking kickass man. Its sounds really professional and everything seems mixed just right. I really like the piano on Morose. Those two songs really appeal to me, more so than the other hardcore one. But im really into industrial/different instruments so maybe thats why. It sounds pretty kickass man.
So when i was listening to it, it said the album was Motropolis, so are you signed or what? I really wouldnt be that suprised, not to turn this into a mutual ego stroke or anything but i was very impressed.

Yeah, We're working on an album called Metropolis, it'll probably be released by the german label :SKULD:, I dunno when, but the album won't be finished anytime soon.. Right now we're busy working on a soundtrack for the horror-movie Rip Cage (Savage Dog Films / Zombie House Productions)..

There's no such thing as "too much guitar", in my opinion...I can appreciate a good drumbeat, but the guitar, above all else, makes the song for me...Arioch, you just keep doing what you're doing...It's more than obvious that you're doing something right...No need to change anything;) :)

Anything over 3 guitars is ridiculous. Then it just sounds like shit. Unless you get like 7 who don't know how to play, and each just play on chord and take turns. But why do that when you can get two talented people, or one.

Thanks Evisceration...That's a good point, and I agree...However, I wasn't referring to the number of guitars...I was referring to the dominance of the guitar...One guitar is more than enough if it's played well...I just like for a guitar to dominate a song...That's my preference...I like a good, hard, strong, well played guitar riff;) :)

I agree, it can get really rediculous. But all of my bands shit at LEAST has 35 or so tracks in it (not all guitar mind you, but at least 8 or so guitars) but this is because i use 3-4 for the song itself, to get those fat hardcore parts. Then i use the rest for atmosphere, volume swells, slides, harmonics etc. Things not necessary to the song but that help creat that kind of offsetting dissenant sound, so when it all comes together on...say...a chorus it makes it sound that much more consanant and powerful.
But thats just me, it really can get overcrowded and obnoxious if you dont know what your doing.

i have a Shure Evis, for $200 or so its the best all around performance mic you can buy i think. Its a dynamic im pretty sure, and has a frequency bump at 1000hrtz or so which makes vocals sound really present and warm which is nice. Sometimes you want it to sound flat tho, thats when i just eq it out, no problem.
Anyway ive been really happy with mine i have the 58a beta i think. Just check out the ones on Musiciansfriend they have all youll need i think.

Arioch,
I wanted to make something as close to Mortician's drumming style. The Cannibal Corpse influence is in the 'melody', and I use that term loosely for a reason. There's lot of seriously downtuned guitars, but I'm hoping to get more guitar samples off my friends so I can use something different to make some more tracks.
As for band names... I'm only good with the horror style, so I ain't much help to you.

Arioch gets the point of the 'music', Sam understands the truth and kpropain - can I use your quote on my website? I use the term loosely for a reason. The point is not to have powerful chord progressions with a heavenly angel on vocals. It's to be noise - and as loud and sonically violent as possible.

Hey thats understandable wheels. Not all music has to be consanant and easily to listen to with perfect harmonies etc. Theres something to be said for using noise and making people feal anxious and uncomfortable through music. Its just as much of an art as making them feal good throught music. Just a different means, and one not so often persued i might say.

Exactly, hehe. I just like making things as noisy and abrasive (I like that word) as possible. There's room for everything in music, some guy made an album sampling dot matrix printers and producing melodies out of that.
But I want to make it clear I don't expect everyone to like Kerbstomper, I just want to get some honest feedback from people.

SInce we're talking music... I'm more into creating "sci-fi electronica" but I'm currently scoring my first indie horror film. I'll have samples from that album up soon... but right now, my current project...
Free Windows Media Player & Real Player formatted streaming audio samples of two complete songs from the upcoming CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack by Stratos.
#1. Vegas Caches Out
http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=354494&T=7145
In order to create a dynamic soundtrack to a "pencil-n-paper" game I needed to conceive various characters, backgrounds, and scenerios that thoses characters would find themselves in - kind of like creating a huge adventure played in my head... and hopefully translated into music.
'Vegas Caches Out' is an example of the "score" of the soundtrack... a short song depicting the death of one of my characters... a cybernetically enhanced young hispanic woman named Vegas.
#2. Dogs of War
http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=354499&T=3040
'Dogs of War' is all action. There's 4 distinctly different guitar styles throughout the song... ranging from heavy grunge and punk to flangy funk. This song was sort of inspired by events like the famous Matrix lobby scene and/or just about any other sci-fi gun fight (notice the machine gun under the distorted guitars?!).
'DOW' features guitar work by my college buddy Eric George of the band, All Things Considered.
Both songs are available now for free streaming listening. In about a month I'll make actual mp3 downloads available for free as well (for registered ACIDPlanet.com citizens). If you take the time to register early... you can leave me some reviews on these two songs!
Thanks & Enjoy!

Bailey,
Hey I really like your stuff. I just listened to Vegas Caches Out and I can see why it's on a soundtrack - it's the sort of music I'd make if I was producing a video game. You've got good scene-setting bits, and when the drums kick in it creates a good upbeat section.
I'd like to hear some more tracks, preferably longer though ... I'm a fan of epic electronica tracks :)

Nice stuff Bailey.
I liked alot of the stuff going on in the Vegas track. Do you mind if i ask what you used for that?
There is some nice guitar in the 2nd track, but its a little too freeform for my taste. But then again it is a soundtrack so i think it would fall right in line with that genre. I'm more partial to the first track tho.
Nice stuff tho, and welcome to the board.

Thanks wheels128 & Arioch - glad you guys like the songs. Thanks too for the positive feedback.
More songs will come shortly after March 17th. The album drops online on May 11th. I have several gaming convention appearances throughout the Summer & Fall scheduled where the soundtrack will also be available. Lots of opportunities to pick it up!
As for the length of the songs... generally speaking I do 4-5 minute songs. However, for the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack I opted for 24 shorter tracks filling in 70+ minutes on one CD instead of 12 or so epic songs. Every track I recorded tells a little piece of an imaginary tale... and the numerous short tunes was a better format than longer.
As for recording... I use Sonar on my PC. I had access to 5 different keyboards/synths/electric piano - including my favorite little microKORG. I use a Korg Electribe rhythm synth (ER-1), and lots of layered loops & samples from Sony/Sonic Foundry Acid packages, Computer & Future Music magazines, and online resourses. I also played a lot of the bass guitar myself and had guest musicians on most of the guitar work and some of the drum patterns.
Thanks again guys!

w00t!
My new band finally recorded our first song, although it does have bad acoustics, it sounds great.
But we'll probably touch it up also once we get done recording the others.
Hit me up on AIM or something to get it, since I don't know how to post it.;)

Hey Evis, great to hear man. You should hit me up on aim (ariochPRIME is my sn) so i can hear it. I might be able to host it for you on my site as well, so you could post it. But im not sure how much space i have left so ill have to check. Im really interested in hearing it though, and we should find a way to let all these people hear it.
Anyone else got anything coming up? Im about to finish up the 2nd song of the 2 i said i was working on like forever ago. So i should be posting those pretty soon. Ill keep you guys updated.

liek, my band (Flood The Veins) has been very very busy as of late. We played our first show at the begining of the month, which went great. I have tons of pics. (Even got some chick to flash me, great turn out.:D ) And we've made an ass load of songs.
Right now we're working on this really strange remake of Metallica's "Master Of Puppets." We don't really want to make a typical cover song, so we're trying to do it all in a 5/8's time, while keeping the Metallica sound somewhat. It's definately a challange, but we're looking foreward to what it sounds like when we get everything figured out.
Our next show is on the 12th, hopefull we'll have MOP done by then.

First of all thats a pretty cool name for the band.
Thats great about your first show, how long have you guys been together?
Thats hardcore about the MOP song. My guitar teacher used to tell me if your gonna do a cover do it "as good or better" than the original. It sounds like you guys are gonna do some really cool shit with that, i never would have thought about putting it in a different time signature, thats hardcore. I bet its gonna own, especially around that slow part with that solo. Youll HAVE to get some mp3's of that shit.

Me and Capt. Futura are in the process of wrapping up an indie horror film soundtrack for the movie The Charnel Gospel. TCG is about ghouls and the undead and deals with the "Cthulthu mythos" as well... anyhow, we need a cool song title for an instrumental....
some titles we've already picked...
"Deterioration Furthers"
"The Creeping Fear"
"Ghoul Frenzy"
we need one more!
Thanks!

Yeah here... PC Right Click - "Save Target As"
http://www.baileyrecords.com/stratos/untitled_horror_sample.mp3
This is only a rough, abbreviated sample of the actual song. Actual song is about 5 minutes long and has much more ambience and composition - but it's not finished yet and still on the studio PC.
Thanks!

lol, I don't name my songs. I just write them and put 1, 2, 3 etc on them.
Pretty interesting if you ask me. If we make a CD, I could just convert them to roman numerals. I, II, III etc.

I think it'd be hard to market Aramaic or Roman Numeral'd songs without any realy titles.
Besides, for me... most music is instrumental... so the title tells the story of the song... and the music sets the tone for that story!

LMAO! Thats really not as funny as it is sad:( and true:o It takes me about 2.5 months to get a song recorded to where i want it, as close as i can get with my equipment, but thats not even including vocals.
I still have to go back, once these 3 are done, and do vocals which are gonna be hard as shit. But hopefuflly i can have that done in a couple months. Then im gonna start working on the other 3.
Hey what you guys think if the first demo/ep was like 6 of our good heavy songs, but the demo also came with a second disc which would be accoustic versions of those same 6 songs? Thats what ive been thinking about doing, some of those songs would lend themselves well to a 12 string.

As promised… here is yet another free sneak-peak at a song from the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack by Stratos releasing this May 11, 2004 at the MongoosePublishing.com & BaileyRecords.com online stores (plus Summer conventions, local shops, and more!)
But first… the whole story…
ENTER DARKRIDER – song #5 on Autumnal Slumber
Originally bowing on my April 1, 2003 release - Autumnal Slumber, 'Enter Darkrider' was inspired by an illustration by Jim Prostovich - the same artist who illustrated the album art for Slumber. This song has seen a lot of playtime over the past year on various indie/college radio programs and even at one of my best friend's wedding reception! I loved the Darkrider illustration so much that I later designed a cyberpunk villain after him... see the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack for complete details!
Hear it free in Windows Media Player format, or register today and download the mp3 for free! --- http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=371296&T=3997
DARKRIDER RETURNETH – song #2 on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack
Inspired by the same illustration of Jim Prostovich as 'Enter Darkrider [extended mix]', this all-new, fresh, revision of the Darkrider theme is sort of a sequel within the legacy. 'Darkrider Returneth' is the theme song of the deadly villain developed for the back-story of the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack. Longer, more layers, guitars, and parts - this song truly rocks the listener! Official OGL CyberNet game stats for The Darkrider are in the album liner notes! Enjoy!
Hear it free in Windows Media Player and Real Player formats, or register today and download the mp3 for free! --- http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=371297&T=3592
The Darkrider illustration by Jim can be seen used in the Signs & Portents #7 article I wrote – “Making A Soundtrack” and also in the recently released issue of PVP (Player Vs. Player) #6 comic book among other ads. The illustration will also be featured in the album liner notes as part of the new and official OGL CyberNet game stats, feats, and equipment created by authors August Hahn & Rodney Thompson specifically for the soundtrack!
And in case you missed the previous two free sneak-peak songs…
DOGS OF WAR – song#7 on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack
From the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack releasing May 11, 2004 on Bailey Records. Inspired & authorized by the OGL CyberNet RPG released by Mongoose Publishing, LTD. This song was sort of inspired by the famous Matrix lobby scene and just about any other "big battle / gun fight / shoot-out" scene. Check out my website for more info on this song and the entire soundtrack! Recorded October 2003 - February 2004 at GreenMan Entertainment. Produced by Stratos, T.W. Cory, and Adam M. Greenawalt.
Hear it free in Windows Media Player and Real Player formats --- http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=354499&T=2313
VEGAS CACHES OUT – song #19 on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack
From the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack releasing May 11, 2004 on Bailey Records. :!: Inspired & authorized by the OGL CyberNet RPG released by Mongoose Publishing, LTD. This song tells the tale of the final moments in the character's (Vegas) life and how the cyborg bites the big one! The title is meant to be a play on words. Check out my website for a detailed illustration of Vegas and more info on this song and the entire soundtrack! Recorded October 2003 - February 2004 at GreenMan Entertainment. Produced by Stratos, T.W. Cory, and Adam M. Greenawalt.

My band plays its second show this coming Wednesday. It would be our third, but we had to cancel the last show due to unusual circumstances. The good thing is that I actually prepared a set list well before the show, instead of 10 minutes before.
Fatal Maiden (3:05)
Pictures in the Gold Room (3:22)
Ms. Evisceration (6:41)
Hell-Bent Necrosis (7:53)
Fetal Position (10:03)
Cynosure (6:11)
Enemy (5:07)
Die-Section (4:13)
Declaration of Obscurity (4:56)
Fatal Maiden is just a instrumental, and then we go in to our cover of Chimaira's 'Pictures in the Gold Room'. We did it last time and worked out well, so we're doing it again. We're still not sure whether we're going to play our version of 'Master of Puppets', but we'll see. We have a maximum of an hour to play, and so far that list comes up to 50 minutes and eleven seconds. If we're feeling lucky, we may replace 'Fetal Position' with 'Master of Puppets'. I definately want to play 'Enemy' though. Tis a love song, about someone I love, though she doesn't know it, she may get the hint since she'll be at the show.
Yup, I'm pussy whipped.
'Die-Section' is strictly a moshing song. Just, crazy is all I can say about the music. Anger, hate and revenge is all I can say about the lyrics.
And 'Declaration of Obscurity' is just about as crazy as 'Die-Section', but the lyrics just talk about metal fans in general. Those two songs are very very different lyric wise than the rest. I guess I just didn't pack them with metaphores and shit.
EDIT~Here's a picture of the actual set list I made today at practice.

Alrighty, here goes.
My band, It Will End In Pure Horror, is a hardcore punk band with elements of grindcore, death metal, sludge and powerviolence thrown in to create a sound we like to call George Romero Edge Zombiecore. Anyway, the website is http://purehorror.cjb.net and you can also listen to a couple of our mp3's at http://garageband.com/iweiph if you actually want to leave a review of some sort. But to clarify, our entire demo's up in mp3 form at our actual site.
And... yeah.

Well, its been quite a while now. And since the second song, which i planned to release this one with, ran into drumming problems, ill just debute this one as is without vocals...
I wanted to do vocals on this, AND the new song before i showed it to you guys, but i have been destroyed with sinuses since this summer began and its kinda wreeked havok on my vocals, to say the least....
Anywho, someone pm'ed me about licking Never Again, and i showed him the new song, so i thought i'd show you guys the new song as well, just to see what you think....
It has yet to be mastered hardcore like Never Again was, so its a bit rough around the edges, please lower your speeker volume so i dont cause anyones speakers to blow, i would feel bad....

The New LONGINUS Track (http://www.texasmartialarts.net/longinus-track1.mp3) fuck ya i like it very nice. i like the pause you have about 3/4ths way through. how many tracks is your drummer recording on. because it sounds real good.
ok i think ill post my new project, as someof you read i just got in a band about a mounth ago named hybrid agense. they kicked me out because the dick head singer has stage fright and i told him to sing or get the fuck out. well sence im new to the band they thought i had no right to say so, but you cant have a bend win the singer wont sing. i havent heard him sing once. ok well i was kicked out anyway.... then when i went home after that my phone rang (like a sign from god) and it was my old friend and drummer in my old band from a few years ago and asked me if i wanted to sing in this band he setting up. but the only problem is that he didnt have the whole band. so i made a few phone calls and now candy and violence is my new band and holy shit this band has such greate chemistry, ok ill post some mp3s when i get it working. but right now where a pretty mello band but at the same time real heavy.
ps. arioch theres a post above your post of mine dont knopw how or why i put it there. could you deleat it for me thanx

Arioch

Well i would go to guitar center or something to play a frettless before you buy one, you might not like how they play, it also depends on if you want that lower 5th string

How many of you all listen to death metal or music that is considered dark? I listen to a full colored spectrum of music and got to thinking if there is any correlation between musical taste and movie taste.
Arioch
06-01-2004, 02:37 AM
I would say so, i see alot of death metal, hardcore/various other Insert Descriptive Word Here/core, fans here.
One the same hand, i like a variety of all movies styles and like a full spectrum, as you put it, of music as well.....so perhaps there is indeed a correlation....

I'm in another un-named band. Only I play guitar instead of sing. Our style is completely different from my other band, and since this new band I just started is well, just starting, there's a lot of shit we have to do.
It's gonna be hard as hell to balance two bands.

Well, I just got word that I'll begin recording another horror soundtrack sometime soon. This time for a roleplaying game called CHOMP! (think Dungeons & Dragons... but zombies in modern-day Pittsburgh instead).
I'm pretty excited about this second horror project! Seems to be my new genre!
Also, because of my involvement with The Charnel Gospel (indie horror film I produced a soundtrack for), I've now been inveted as a guest of horror and Sat. evening performer at Dark X-Mas (http://www.darkxmas.com)!

Hey, it's Chris from the NYC band Ruth Ruth. After a couple of major label albums we've just released our 1st indie CD. We're doing all the promotion ourselves, but hopefully in not too a disgusting way.
I'm only going to forums of things I like, in the hopes of turning some people with the same interests as me onto our music. This is NOT spam. I'm actually here and I do love classic horror movies. My favs are Hammer films like Captain Kronos, Scream of Fear, Paranoia, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, etc. I love The Haunting, Burn!, Witch, Burn!, Pit and the Pendulum and the italian classics like Castle of Blood and Black Sunday.
I'm ready to talk horror, hopefully some of you will dig our sounds.
Take a listen at:

If you're still just learning, pick up the tabs for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Nevermind" by Nirvana. Some of the easiest shit to play.

I realise that most horror fans tend to be pretty much heavy metal in musical taste but some of you might find some of my sets appealing.
It's mainly dark underground trance music but I take influences from horror/sci fi movies, and heavy metal amongst other things. In the past I've opened sets with the likes of the theme music from The Amityville Horror and used elements of NOTLD, TCM and other classic horror in my mixes including a remix of the theme from Halloween.
Big downloads so watch out, suggest you start with "Cut-N-Shut" which was descibed by one listener as "like stepping into an elevator and having the cable cut".
If anyone checks them out let me know what you think.
