I am soooo tired of the Art Fags out there that totally refuse to watch the new remakes of great horror films. I have a buddy who is a "purest" and is constantly telling me how he will never see this remake or that remake then the next time I talk to him he miraculously saw the movie on accident and he just completely bashes it. Ex. the new Dawn of the Dead. This is the same guy who had the nerve to say that Land of the Dead was a far superior movie to the new Dawn, Shaun and 28 days! I was like are fucking kidding all 3 of those movies where much better. Than Land. Not to say that Land was bad of course.. It just wasnt up to par with the other three mentioned.

I guess what I am saying is please fans of horror be open minded and enjoy the media we are given re-done or not. There is some great stuff out there.

I always say, "What's the big deal?"...It isn't like the remake is out to REPLACE the original...So what if the originals are usually better?...The remakes are still better than a lot of OTHER movies out there.....I'm more than happy to have 2 movies instead of one (or in some cases 3 or more ;) *Invasion Of The Body Snatchers* )...Especially when the remakes are based on movies that I already love...That's just more for me :)

Hi friend. Reading your post honestly made me stop and think for a moment of the sound of when you jump in sonic the hedgehog. Then I thought of the music that plays when you die in wonderboy. Then, I started wondering why so many 8 and 16 bit characters kinda bounced, then fell down the bottom of the screen, every time you die, I mean, are they making a last ditch effort to live, or what? ..I then momentarily paused to think of this badass spicy as all hell pizza in front of me right now, then wondered if Ill have a nippy little tune play when I die...and finally, I realised I'd forgotten what you were talking about.

Oh, and..."PurIst";)

No...I'll give any movie a fair chance.

Example- I watched House of the Dead 3 times before shelving it for good.

After reading your post and many other post in this forum I realized that I did not join "horror".com forum rather I joined "letsseehowpettyfacetioussarcasticrudeandohletsnotf orgetjusthowincrediblyarogantandsmartweare".com. I guess I am just a "newb" and I should be prepared for the squatters and dregs of the forum to spew there "sarcasm" aka low self esteem upon me. Good work stud..! Oh not to mention this will probably send shockwaves through Cheeba and all his minions and I will be bombarded with heavy lashings. God who knows they might ignore me..Maybe I just missed the point completely and this is a friendly hazing so I can be a bitter blogger too.. Damn what a quandry should I post this..? Should I say nothing..? Have I already given him what he wants by spending the time to post this? I cannot win... Damn Cheeba you are good.

On a serious note, it is human nature to become defensive about films/music etc. in "our day" when faced with a bunch of remakes designed primarily to cash-in on current trends and make glaring statements about current lack of creativity and imagination (that a remake may be "good/watchable" is not the point - every one that is released is one less original idea to make the screen).

When we start accepting remakes (and remakes of remakes) without scepticism, the genre is fucked much like throwaway boyband music and Euro-pop - covering and sampling old records - have ruined the music charts.

I coulnt care less about remakes. Sure, there are some that I think are a really bad idea *cough*TheTingler*cough* but nobodys forcing me to watch them [even though I usually do anyway], and no mstter how bad they are, Ill still be able to come home and watch the original. Plus, there are a few really kickass remakes, IE- The Fly, The Thing, House on Haunted Hill...the list goes on

I understand what you're saying COMPLETELY.....Unfortunately...It doesn't seem like anyone is coming up with any NEW ideas, that are better than the old ones they're ripping off and remaking....*sigh*

If you trail the underground and indie horror/exploitation scene, you can find a wealth of new talent coming up with all sorts of eye-opening work (you still need to wade through the dross of Romero ripoffs, though).

Sadly, these are destined to remain obscure so long as wealthy production companies can effortlessly reap rewards by giving teenagers another hip bogeyman or ironic take on a classic horror theme or icon.

Having said that, I'm quite happy for my interests to remain underground - imagine Scrapbook or Nekromantik playing to the multiplex crowds?

Dont get me wrong originality still rules and indy/underground stuff kicks ass. But .... There has been some great remakes and prequals. My personal fav horror movie ever (sure to cause laughs and rasie eyebrows) is Texas Chainsaw II w/Hopper. Also with the production capabilities available now compared to years ago is not even comparable.

More technical and flashy production values do not necessarily a better film make, though - style over substance is rife at the moment.

TCM2 is a bit of a riot, including Dennis selecting the biggest, baddest chain saw, and Chop-top's alarming hammer attack on the guy in the radio station.

Me too...I don't see anything that would actually scare anybody, might gross some people out a bit but it's not scary at all, doesn't seem to try to either.

TCM3 got things back on track, with some nice, nasty moments (reshaped in various cut and re-edited versions - there is a Director's Workprint doing the rounds as a bootleg).

No doubt about TCM2 is very very funny in parts.. The hammer scene is BRUTAL. And at the end when Stretch is waving the chainsaw around like Leather Face is creepy also. I think the macabre of the movie is what gets me. This is why I enjoyed House of 1000 so much too. Both of these movies for me are as close as anyone has gotten to a showing one of my nightmares on film. There both a little unrealistic, funny, freaky and at the same time spooky.

anyone that can determine if a movie is shit or not having not even viewed it loses creditability.if i think a movie may be shit i simply wait for the dvd(or steal the bootleg off the internet)and watch it then.

some of the remakes brought alot to the table.i loved the dawn remake,i loved shaun of the dead......hated 28 days, but 2 outta 3 ain't bad!

not to mention that a remake "can" be a homage to the original done by a fan(s) themselves.not just by whoring scumbag hollywood exces that wanna remake films for sake of making money and could give a fuck-all to the original material.
