Has anyone else heard of this? Is this the remake of the old one with Jamie Lee Curtis?

Yes, I've heard of it....I think it's got Selma Blair...(not sure if I spelled her name right).
I'm actually kind of annoyed that it's being re-made...I really enjoyed the original...and I'm afraid to see it ruined...like what usually happens with re-makes ;)
I've also heard that "Fright Night" is being re-made...talk about stabbing me in the heart....:(:p

I loved Fright Night (even the second one-the cover on the video was amazing with those golden eyes....)
They don't need to remake Fright Night!! They need to make NEW ONES.
What are thinking?

Fright Night is my absolute fav. horror movie...anyone who knows me knows that ;) Of course it's not the BEST horror movie...but to me, it's the most enjoyable...it holds a place near and dear to me:p Nothing will ever top the original, that's for sure.

I agree with you as well...hollywood needs to start getting some new ideas, and stop messing with great originals...they're also trying to re-make "Suspiria" which would be a tragedy, in my opinion.

BTW...yes, Jamie Lee AND her mother are both in "The Fog" :)

Not looking forward to this remake at all. Completely unnecessary and I don't care for too much of the cast of the new one. I love the original.

And yes, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh and Adrienne Barbeau were all in the original.

Fright Night is being remade? No, no, no....

I for one am looking forward to seeing this... probably on DVD.

I felt the original was typical Carpenter, slow-burning, cool first-watch movie... but after you've seen it once, it's just waaay to slow and boring.

Plus that chic from Lost is a FOX... so that's a good thing. ;)

I agree, I just didn't find the original interesting at all. I didn't like it much, so I'm hoping, for once, they can remake it and make it a little better, without changing storyline.

WHY ARE WE REMAKING THE FOG. ISN'T THAT ONE OF THOSE MOVIES THAT ARE GOOD IF THEY'RE LEFT IN THERE TIME? I CAN'T IMAGINE A REMAKE OF THE FOG BEING GOOD, AND WHAT IS THIS ABOUT FRIGHT NIGHT? NO, NO, NO!!! IF THEY REMAKE THAT MOVIE THEY WILL JUST MESS IT UP VERY BAD. PLEASE CAN WE LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE.....:( :( :( :(

A hundred bad remakes of the Fog wouldn't make any difference, in my opinion.

It used to be that I'd make all kinds of cruel remarks about filmmakers who do them. Very easy to jump to conclusions that it's just going to be another cashing in. Maybe it will. Maybe it won't.

I like to keep my mind open, either way. You never know when the next the Thing -caliber remake will come along...

Well, I think a hundred bad remakes of any film would certainly make a difference. Yes, there are good remakes. Hell, occasionally there is even a superior remake. But I'm tired of having to accept this complete lack of originality as inevitable. I just know there are some interesting scripts out that are being turned away in order to bank on yet another remake or worse, a"reimagining" that simply cashes in on a name, with a director that has no real interest in, or love of, the genre. :D

It is simply different when a director that has an understanding of the genre takes on a remake, rather than one that is just doing a job. I don't know who is directing The Fog remake, but I can tell you, I am not impressed with the signed cast. And that is a bad sign...lol.

It is indeed a sad fact that there will always be filmmakers with no love for the genre, and no originality or creative vision of their own. The huge gaps that lie between good to excellent remakes will always be filled in with utter garbage, the intention of which is only to rip off the originals and make some profit.

For the industry and, more importantly the genre, YES... a hundred remakes would certainly make a difference. While it is quite improbable that such a high number of bad remakes would ever be made from one film, I merely meant to suggest that in spite of any bad remakes that come out of Fog, for example, it will never make a difference...it will never change the way I feel about the original film.

And speaking of the cast...I've never had any reason to respect Selma Blair whose name to me seems to be the only one remotely familiar. The way John Carpenter puts it (when asked about the Fog remake), he doesn't mind that someone wants to "freshen" it up, but his answers don't really make the film all that optimistic.

The fact that Jon Bon Jovi is going to be in this film is not exactly the kiss of death, but it certainly doesn't bode well. I just picked up the August issue of Fangoria, which had an article about the remake. Apparently, Carpenter has taken more of a "supervisory" position, while leaving the actual day to day direction to Rupert Wainwright. That's not a good sign, but as always I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it.

Dude, a remake of The Fog can't work nowadays. The original had an actual storyline, and today's audiences don't want a story, they want spooks and jump scares. Fog is NOT going to scare them. Ghost pirates are NOT going to scare them. This movie's gonna tank, which is stupid cuz those executives need to at least figure out which remakes will work for modern audiences.

That girl from Lost angered me with her whole John Carpenter is "ok" but we have much better technology and will blow his movie away crap. Oh, and as for Bon Jovi, he was in Young Guns II, I liked that movie and Vampires Los Muertes or whatever was so so, I mean, it wasn't THAT bad.

Whops on that last post. It's R in the states, but only 14A here in Canada. Heres the back of the MGM DVD release. See down near the bottom? Pretty small, but you can see the R symol, and the Canadian 14 symbol [yellow triangle] right beside it.

Well I guess I am going to be in the minority here because I actually enjoyed it. I liked it better than the orginal.

And believe me I will be the first to rally against remakes of films, I fuckin hate them.

You should heard me screamin when they remade Cape Fear. (They remade Cape Fear??) Yes NOOBIE.

I dont feel like it was "The Thing" remake caliber but I enjoyed the story with more perspective.

I will say that the cast tanked and if it wasnt for a good story to follow I would have been demanding my money back.

Plus I think some of the CGI stuff was a little unecessary.

So, is a mini series worse than it being PG-13?

With the marching on of current Hollywood remakes this film might have different. Guess what? It wasn't. Since most of the newest remakes suck I was hoping for better. Well having a friend in the movie theater who could get me in for free helped.
The trailer for this movie had me all excited. The Fog happens to be a favorite movie of mine. So the lights in the theater dimmed & the film plotted along in the predictable style. Gone are the hooks & knifes from the undead. Replaced by CGI cheesy special effects. The acting was on par with watchng grass grow. Forget making fun of this movie because it's not even worth that. There's nothing believable or scary about it. We're treated to the usual jump editing & weird angles that we've seen a thousand times before. I went into this movie with an open mind & came out glad I didn't spend my money. So in the end the Fog wasn't really a character as I was hoping. It was a bowel movement. :(

10-24-2005, 06:36 AM
Yah. It was horrible.

I liked the Amityville and House of Wax remakes muuuuch more. This was absolutley disgusting, and actually a disgrace to the genre. It actually reminded me A LOT of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Which obviously isn't a good thing.

And the acting, oh GOD.

That chick from Lost obviously can't play more than one role, because she WAS Shannon from Lost in this movie.
