View Full Version : Cats Are Gross When They Eat Insects

My little alley cat friends have acquired a nasty habit of eating any bugs that come along. Flying bugs, crawling bugs, big or small, they will eat them.

I will be tossing them little kitty treats and so on, you know, the things cats are designed to be eating naturally in the wild, but, as soon as any kind of bug comes along they run off and gobble it up and it takes them a minute to remember that there was some guy throwing them kitty treats a minute ago. They go into a weird bug-eating trance! They forget I'm even there!

They don't even toy with the bug or bat it around like you will see a cat do sometimes. They just leap after the thing and crunch crunch crunch. When I think about the fact that a cat just swallowed a bug, it makes the cat less cute, and sort of gross, too.

Sounds like my cat, we had a birdhouse that we set up and put wire fence around to keep things away from it because we worked so hard to get birds in thier. Then one morning the fence was down and the birds were gone. That damn cat, hes done it before. I think were gonna get rid of him.

Yeah (sigh) I'm sorry to say, cats seem to prefer eating things that are moving. A biscuit or cracker or kitty treat holds no interest for them when they see a chance to spill blood. We have a lot of birds around here and every now and then you will find a pile of feathers. I can only imagine that it makes them feel good (?) when they chase something down and eat it? It must be like cat sushi to them.

I used to have a rat that went crazy and caught any big flies that came into his cage. I thought it was horrible because, well, how big is a rat? So a big juicy fly is like a hoagie sandwich to an average-size rat--it's huge. Can you imagine stuffing an insect that big into your face? Animals eat the strangest things.

I find it to be very kool when insects are eating cats.

Oh what a horrible thing to say. Insects only eat cats after the cats are dead, and that's depressing! Oh what a horrible thing to say.

Hey, what's that line from the White Zombie song about the rat eating the cat...which is clearly a metaphor for box munching?

People, cats are sophisticated animals and don't have to explain themselves to the likes of us. Besides there are people above the age of three, who eat insects. Now, that's really gross.

I know, I know, I'm just jealous because they forget all about me when an insect flies by. I like feeding the kitties, and go out and buy nice cat food for them and such, I even give them a sardine from time to time, but as soon as they see a bug, it's "Oooo--what's that??" and off they go.

I've always wondered if you're really a cat, filmmaker...

It must be hard to type.

Seri's cats shred my curtains when they are climbing to catch moths (We often leave the doors open at night, to let in the cool night air...The moths come in with it)...That drives me insane:mad:

Naw, I ain't no cat...I'm a hyoomin!

I just like cats because they're cheaper to hang out with than people. Think about it! You know how expensive gas is nowadays...who doesn't, right? Well, maybe you don't wanna drive across town or farther to see some friend no matter who they are. And maybe you don't want to spend money on some overpriced designer coffee or pay a ridiculous cover charge at some trendy crappy club. But there are some weird, nervous cats that live in the alleyway, and they are willing to exploit you for dishes of tasty food. So you do a deal. You let them into your apartment, and pretty soon, they are destroying your furniture because they know they can do whatever they want. Sounds cool huh????

It's their instincts, even the best trained animals go back to their instincts sometimes. For example about a week ago I was watching the news and a police dog snapped on a cop.

my cat decided it wanted to eat a locust one time. The sound was utterly horrifying, and I walked up on this shit happening in the dark to. Not a very good thing to do. The bug was screaming and my cat was hissing because the locust had a hold of his lip. I just let them battle it out. The bug almost won.
