Spader is an underrated actor.(I remember him now in that movie!)
Did you see him in The Practice and Boston Legal? That character was MADE for him.

I have been a James Spader fan for a very long time. I always thought he played a perfect slimeball....lol.

Stephen King and Micheal Crichton are solid.

Stephen King: IT, Dark Tower Series, The Stand... and any other book you can get your mits on by him.

Crichton: Prey is a cool read... Rising Sun is awesome, and of course, Jurrassic Park.

Also, check out Steve Alton's MEG books (about the prehistoric super huge version of great white sharks)... There are 3 of 'em I think... they're all fun (if not a bit simple) reads.

Koontz most certainly has his ups and downs. I've been quite impressed by some of his books, and left cold by others. The Bad Place is probably the best one that I've read, so I'd recommend that one as a place to start. I've also recently started reading his new series based on Frankenstein, which seems quite interesting so far.

As for the movie version of Watchers , it's... pretty bad, to be honest.

thanks again. The only horror author I have read that I can remember is Laymon. I heard Steven King is good but I think he's a bit over rated. Ill try a book or two and see.

Anything by Koontz is pretty good, up until a few years ago anyway. Here lately he's gone a bit preachy and soft. His Prodigal Son series is aptly centered around Frankenstein as Koontz reveals his Frankensteinian Complex.

Critcheon is a good read, regardless of the topic or whether you think you'll enjoy it. But again his fear of science makes it hard for me to read more than a couple of his books at once.

As for King, you can't go wrong with his short stories, period. His novels can be a little rough because he devotes so much time to the characters lives and their development. I've loved some and hated others. Depends on taste. Salem's Lot, It and The Stand are personal favorites.

Other horror writers?
Skipp and Spectre's Animals and The Bridge are awesome. Their earlier work is a bit dated but ok if you can remember the seventies and eighties.
