Mystery movie

First of all: Hello! I am new here. Nice forum.

Its a really old movie that I saw when I was a kid and it scared me really badly. A family living in a house discovers that there are creatures living under the house. These creatures are like evil gnomes that are midget sized. The faces closely resemble the Sleestaks from the old TV show "Land of the Lost", even the heads are pointy. Probably only about a couple feet tall.

There were some scenes where the creatures were watching the inhabitants from behind these floor-level heating grates. The people would look into the grates thinking that they see something move. It didn't help that we had these kind of grates in the house where I grew up. Many times I swear I saw these things in our grates!

Unfortunately, the only scene I remember is at the end when the last surviving member of the household was dragged into the heating grate by these evil creatures.

Sorry, I know that isn't much info but thats all I have. So.....name that movie!!!

It sounds like The Gate, but that can't be right. It seems like I've seen that movie as well.

I was thinking the gate too! I mean, little demons under house, family unsuspected. It has the Gate written all over it.

No...It is not the Gate. I know exactly what movie he is talking about! Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it either!

In the movie, the people hear whispering coming from the grates. They are more like "deformed little people" as compaired to the itty-bitty demons from the Gate.

The movie is from the early to mid seventies...and from what I remember (its been years+ since I've seen it) it was really good.

***SPOILER***

At the end, they are seen tugging and pulling their victim into the heating vent from a room or hall way. You see the victims legs/shoes as he inches slowly into it.

This will drive me nucking futs until I find out what it is. I haven't thought about it for a long time.

Yes!!! someday I will find the name!!! I should have specified that I remember seeing it when I was really young, so that would have been between 78-82(?) Yes I am old!!

Sounds more like DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, a made for TV movie from 1973.
