anyone like to camp? im probably going this weekend
im not really into the 20 hours into the deep wilderness, no showers, no cell phone service type of deal.. but it would be fun to be outside, away from the electricity and such
:) buying a tent tomorrow, and bringing a sleeping bag, blankets, and some food. maybe some toiletries. im pretty much keepin it light

Yeah, that's probably about the time I went. I think if I went again...I wouldn't stay in a tent...I'd stay in...a camper or something. I'm way too chicken to stay out in the woods now :( I wanna be a kid again...I miss not having any worries!;) :o :p

I've never camped much...just never really had the oppertunity, which is ridiculous, considering where I live.
I have put some thought into it, and I have pondered riding my bike to a suitable location, preferably with a river in which to fish.
Take along my backpack with a fishing rod, some lures, a tent, sleeping bag, whatever...And of course, some packaged food, fire starting stuff and vegetables that would keep well.
I'd like to live of my own catches for a week, that'd be cool...humans are MORE THAN capable.

Until you realised you were no good at catching fish and starved :p

Naw, I'm an ok fisherman...I caught a shark the first time I tried...not like, a BIG shark, but a shovel-nose...I could go along and wing it, seems easy.
Either way, I'd have packaged food to deal with...
I reckon I'd bring a book or ten along...

I've never been much of a fisherman myself.
I'd have to take some music along.

I'm not much of a camper. I don't know wat it is, I just don't like it. Maybe it's because whoever I have to sleep with usually ends up being a loud-ass snorer and keeps me up all night.
Also, ever since I've seen the Blair Witch Project, I've been a little intimidated to go into the woods. But, if its to catch a fuckin' witch, then I'm in!
Gren -
Definitely go and enjoy. I go all the time and just got back from three days in the Adirondacks. Lots of fun. The only advice I'd give is really think about everything you are going to carry into the campsite - do you really need it? or will it just be dead weight?
As for the woods, they can really be kind of creepy - I'm always afraid of bears wandering into our campsite - but its a cool kind of creepy.
enjoy!

I like to go camping
usually go into one of the swamps that aren't state park property with a few friends.
We don't have to worry about animals because the first thing we do after finding a good spot is walk out about a quarter mile in different directions and spread wolf urine around and it keeps the animals away. If that doesn't work or a bear(which could very easily rip a wolf to shreads) comes around we have a rifle, not for hunting just protection.
gren said something about not being able to take a shower...I just go in the river or under a waterfall.

I've heard that wolf urine works well on smaller animals (which would've stopped some chipmunks from eating through my food sack a few years back). In the Adirondacks they are now urging people to use Bear Cannisters (big plastic containers that bears, apparently, can't get into) because most of the ADK bears had figured out how to get down food bags that were hung in trees. Of course, a rifle would end that shit - but the park rangers probably wouldn't be too friendly!!

Well like I said we go to swamps that aren't state park property, there aren't that many bears in the swamps anyway.
Small bears will stay away from the wolf urine and bears that have cubs will usually stay away from it as well.
When you're in a swamp the only thing you really have to worry about is alligators and snakes, all you have to do is keep away from a snake and he'll leave you alone eventually. Alligators usually just hang around water and if we run into one we just stop, back off ridiculously slow and after you've gotten a safe distance you can just turn around and walk away.
And of course if and only if all else fails we've got the rifles.

I was quite surprised that no one brought it up earlier.
I love to go camping. I could live in the woods, no phone, no TV.
Just me my Bowie knife and a loin cloth.

The closest thing I ever came to camping was going to that Yogi Bear camp resort when I was a kid. I got mosquito bites all over my body and there were trailers everywhere. It was just one big themed trailer park, it sucked.

There ya go, that one. Did you ever go in the swimming pool? Y'know, the one that's filled with leaves and urine? Yeah, that was awesome...

I went there when I was like 9ish on a field trip and the only fun I had was a huge water gun fight with the rest of my class.
