New reader.....

I've never been into reading books....mainly because, after I've ever read a book...I can't remember what the hell happened at the begining...

Maybe it's just something mentally wrong with me, or books just don't do it for me....is there any good books for me, I love horror, mystery...anything that has to do with death-supernatural-suspense....any recomedations??
I would love to read more....:)

Well, who have you tried so far?

I like Stephen King, but not all his books are for me, or for everyone, sometimes I think hes a little too drawn out, but Carrie, The Shinning and some others are good.
I also love Richard Laymon. I'm not sure what other peoples opinion of him is, but he reminds me of a sorta 80's film, blood, gore and tits. I also like reading his books because I find 90% of the time the book is completly different to what you expect from reading the back.
Some suggested titles are "Flesh," "Funhouse," "Savage" (A take on Jack the Ripper) "Rain" "Darkness, Tell Us", "Bite" His books are a mix as well, some are slasher, some are supernatural and others with a hint of Sci-Fi.
I also liked the book by James Herbet "Rats" thats a great read IMO. Also The Exorcist (the novel) is an excellent book and again in my opinion better than the film.

"the rising" and "city of the dead" by brian keene.

you must read the rising first though. COTD is its sequel.

you wont be disappointed.

Why not pick up some short story collections? That way you get used to reading more and can work yourself up to reading longer works. Short stories are good because there is no way you can forget the beginning by the time you have reached the end. I would hope...lol....

Anyway, I would suggest any collection by Edgar Allen Poe. Also Night Shift by Stephen King, The Books of Blood by Clive Barker and Haunted: Tales of the Grotesque by Joyce Carol Oates.

Oh yeah, and try HP Lovecraft. He writes clthulu (sp?) mythology short stories.

I talked to a co-worker about reading...and she has some short story books.....she's bringing me an EAP book on Monday...:cool:

Short stories are the way to go - for the short attention span/ADD people like myself.
I really enjoyed the Splatterpunk & Splatterpunk II anthologies.
H.P. Lovecraft was another great suggestion.

You should definitely check out Shirley Jackson (The Lottery) -she is cited as being an inspiration to Stephen King, who also writes some cool short stories.

If you wanna get into some really hardcore gore and horror.. go with Wrath James White, Edward Lee, or Poppy Z Brite. If you like these I can turn you on to others later.
