I myself am playing Street Fighter 3 Third Strike at the momment. I am average at this game compared to my competition, but I still love participating in Sessions Arcade or Home and Tournaments.

I also enjoy playing Capcom Vs SNK 2, SF2 Super Turbo. For me these are still very competitive games.

So anyone here still play any 2d beat em ups?

Oh yeah theirs also Horror Gothic and Sureal based beat em ups such as the Dark Stalkers series, Jo Jo's bizzare adventure amonst other's

I play SF Alpha 2 with friends from time to time. I kind of lost interest tough. Super Punch Out is a classic. I'll play and finish the game then forget it for a year, come back, play some more, quit till next year.

In my opinion, Guardian Heroes is the best 2d Beat'em up. Someone steped on my Sega Saturn a while ago and broke it so I haven't been able to play since. I tried the GBA version of it and it's horrible.

Gotta love Mortal Kombat, in my opinion the undisputed king of the genre:)

Mortal Kombat ventured into both 3-D and RPG. I hate the RPG, but the 3-D games are definatly on par with the 2-D counterparts, I personall consider MK4 [Arcade version] the high point of the franchise, followed closly by MK2.

How's the RPG called and what platform was it released on?

There might be others, but the only one Ive played was Konquest, and it was included with MK-Deception. I know Deception is on all the popular platforms, Id have to assume that Konquest mode is included on them all.

No need to defile Street Fighter with that MK garbage. Without Street Fighter, the guys at Midway would have nothing.

C'mon, that's a little harsh. MK wa the only game at the time to NOT be a street fighter clone. It used real actors for motion capture, to good effect, the music was definately a step up from the ultra crap SF2 soundtrack you used to hear repetetively allover the acrades, not to mention, when they wanted a MK sequel, they actually made one, not just one of 1000 versions like SF2 had. And hey, what...you don't like blood?
I don't hate SF, but I don't really see how anyone could say that MK 1-3 were anything but superior to SF2.
I myself thought the MK series fell downwards after Ultimate, although, I've not played the latest title yet, admittedly it does look good.

RE: MK rpgs?
Not sure what you mean...the "quest" modes on deadly alliance were for training purposes weren't they? I mean, as long as you still have the one on one fighter AND that, I don't see why there'd be need to complain.
They did, however have a few spin-off games, the TERRIBLE sub-zero side-scroller was just a chore to play...Special Forces wasn't a BAD attempt at a different style of game, but it wasn't great.
The new title "Shaolin Monks" looks excellent, I eagerly await to play it.

My favourites would be:
*Ultimate Mortal Kombat
*Marvel vs Capcom 2
*Time-Killers
*World Heroes 2

Although, I personally prefer the more 3d fighters like the series stared by "soulblade", the tekken series (from 4 onwards especially), I actually loved sonic fighters, dead or alive is pretty cool too...

I still pull MK out for a bash. The PC version was amazing at the time.

I still (not often) play street fighter II' . I can beat anyone here, still :D

MK series are also superb, however; there are too many tactics to beat the opponents. And without using them, its impossible to win over some characters.

Oddly enough, I was never a fan of Mortal Kombat, even when it was the big thing at the arcades. Honestly though, SF isn't really my thing either. Darkstalkers and Guilty Gear are where it's at.
