I don't really have any goals besides you know, living a short productful life I was thinking, what are OUR goals for 75 years from now. On an individual basis that seems extreme but on a worldly level its pretty short term. As a race, what do you think we should acomplish, what should our children's children expect? What are you working for? We are not the greatest and no generation past or present should ever be able to boast that. What you want from life is so general because life exist without you, so I guess what Im asking is do you work for you or for people and life?

I want to entertain people with my wacky work, I've always felt that way. But now I also want to perfect a really tasty vegetarian "barbecue" beef sandwich. I think it could change the world if I get the flavor just right.

They taught me in school "Always set your goals high and one day you'll achieve them", so I did. I won't lie if I didn't set my goals high I wouldn't be good at my job. But Now I realize no one gives a shit about you or your goals. Its always the people that don't set goals at all that achieve more. School is classism bullshit

I agree with that to point. I do very well at my job. I am not trying to brag but I probably do it better than 99% of the people that I work with.
The problem is, and no one tells you this shit in school, is that the guy next to you who does a shitty job gets paid the same as you do. Lets not forget about the nepotism that goes on either. And whoever blows the boss gets ahead. Yes this happens in the blue collar world too.
I have also found that when you are good at your job and make a mistake, and everybody does, management wonders what the fuck is your problem. Do a shitty job everyday and no one will expect anything more from you.
I have learned that I do the job to the best of my abilities and until I am satisfied with the work that I have done. As long as I did the work honestly that is all I care about.
There is alot of shady characters in the auto repair business, and very few that are truly qualified. Think about that the next time you take your car in to get it fixed.
As for school, I went to school with a bunch of spoiled brat elitists. Everybody had their own little groups. Myself and the rest of the kids from the wrong side of the tracks and everybody else. I wish that I could say that I enjoyed school, but I cant.
As far as I know most of folks from my graduating class havent got as far in life as I have or done half the things that I have done so all I can say about that is FUCK THEM.
Do things for yourself and the people you care about and fuck everybody else.

I find myself working for myself more and more nowadays. I have my ma's attitude, which is I want to take everything on myself, mostly because I don't trust people to do it for me. But its not even that anymore.
Why even LET someone else do something when you know for a fact you can do it faster and better? I'm not going to work with a team of people I don't know when I'm sure I can do it all myself. So if I don't want to work WITH you, why would I work FOR you? To see the smile on your face? So we can exchange a quick but meaningless thumbs-up? Psh, fuck that.
The best thing about working for yourself is that your answering to someone who's pretty understanding.

Life may exist without you, but it would be a different reality.

Since the thread topic was asking what humankind as a whole should acheive ?75? years from now, I'll try and go with that.
Cancer and other diseases that literally eat you alive....they should all be gone. As a matter of fact, a lot of promising research has been done just recently, news of cures for prostate, bowel and cervical cancer being right around the corner is great, not to mention the ongoing advancements in treatment and cure of heart disease. Based on some of the things I've read over the last few years, I think that we're presently only a few years away from some very major medical breakthroughs, and it's gathering steam as we speak.
So yeah...might not take all of 75 years, but it's a nice outcome to think about.
This may only be a distant dream, but I'd also like to see more environmentally friendly production methods, vehicles and appliances, fuel sources...etc become mandatory. The world has this great ability to cure itself, in many ways - yet all we've done is find many ways to slow, or in fact, stop that process.
When humanity "grows up" and stops worrying about the petty, greedy shit that defines most modern day society, and starts focussing on the world, that which sustains our very lives, and starts making a few laws that are actually worth shit, that will be a good day. Sure, there's a lot of environmentally friendly practices going on everywhere in the world today, but it's not nearly enough.
Yeah...that and the medical thing...the two most major.
Of course, the kind of technology that could allow people to fly without the aid of bulky machinery, food or water to be created without waste of natural resources, some DAMN good videogames, better overall health awareness (also mandatory for schools to comply), and space travel becoming commonplace...all of those would be nice too...

Alot of people may not care about you or your goals, but there are still many others who will. Try not to categorize everyone into one general category...there's good and bad in everything...even though I know it sucks sometimes when you feel under-appreciated.
Also...it doesn't really matter if other people care, as long as you're satisfied with the work you're doing.
Finally...with regard to your last comment...I know alot of people who DIDN'T set any goals for themselves...and their lives are a big mess. They wish that they had done things differently, or gone after something they wanted...so those types of people don't always come out ahead...and school isn't always classism bullshit...without it, I wouldn't have become who I am or have been able to do what I wanted to with my life.
Anyway, just keep setting your goals high for yourself...and appreciate when somebody DOES care about what you do...and screw everyone else ;)

so I guess what Im asking is do you work for you or for people and life? I work for myself, and what I have always wanted to do will in no way better the world, or humans as a race, I'll gladly admit. It's kinda scary when you think about this....seems less, and less people now are working for the future of the world. Most of us, including myself, just wanna live life now and do what makes us happy...I'm wondering what the world will be like in 75 more years if we keep going at his rate. What are the "leaders" of the world going to be like then? Seems not many people these days have a drive for things like that, and it's only going to get worse in future generations.

In 75 years from now,I would like to see an end to pedophiles-I want my children safe and their children safe. When a court of law says someone has raped or murdered a child-their life should be forfeit,no sitting in jail until their waste of a human life ends at old age or on death row,no appeals-pedophiles have been proven unable to rehabilitate, they will never stop hurting children.
I want to no longer hear a parent crying on TV because some modern-day ogre killed and tortured their baby. (ALSO-I think parents should have the right to spend 10 minutes alone with the monster that took their child.Cruel and unusual? What do you think the child felt???)

LOL. Yeah, I'm being nice to you...and I'm not trying to make you feel bad at all. No matter what's been said in the past, I honestly believe that somehow you and I can manage to get along...not saying we'll never have our differences...but in general...let's just be good to each other and respect each other...and knock off all the BS ya know? :)
