View Full Version : Review: The Devil's Rejects
I enjoyed HOKC but its plot was little weak and there were a little too many characters.. This movie got rid of some of the HOKC characters which was a good thing. It focused on the main characters and we got a good sense about them. There were also great death scenes, much better interesting plot and a nice twist... Much better than the original. Great twist at the end. And I dont know how much it costed to make this movie but the budget must have been doubled compared to the HOKC. Much better quality. I give it an 8.5/10. Go to the theatres for this one!
What did you think of this movie? It surpassed my expectations especially in the later half of the movie.

You should hear marroe's review of the movie. hey now!
I thought it was good but I never thought it was "orgasmically" good as Marroe said it was. It was close though. I think Ebert used the same word "orgasmically good" too in his review because he even gave it 3 stars and liked it. Even if some of you all hated the first one, you could still enjoy the second one. Who else seen this and what did you think of it?

this is probably the best movie i seen in theaters this year or so. The xharacters changed a little in this movie which is for the best. I loved the 70's feel to it. the violance was great and so was the color. The end blew me away (no pun intended). overal amazing film that i cant wait to get the DVD. 5/5
after going through some of the horror movies at the theatre, this is the best one in the past couple years. I liked it better than LOTD, Dark Water and War of the Worlds that i saw somewhat recently. What other horror movie is better than this movie that came out to theatres the past couple years? I dont know. High Tension? I havent seen it yet.

Not really
You dont need to see HOKC but you may get a better understanding of who and what the characters are about. I would go see HOKC before I see TDR.... And if you dont like HOKC, you should still see TDR because its far superior than HOKC. This is where we see the sequel beats out the original.
This is the biographies of the characters. Its very interesting and it wont spoil HOKC or TDR. None of this is referrenced toward the movie but it just gives a little more description about them all. Check it out!
now, for a little story line for those interested.... the FIREFLY clan was started by none-other than Captain Spaulding, known felon and sex-offender... Born Johnny-Lee Johns in 1918, little Johns was abandoned at an early age and spent a good deal of his childhood in a Ruggsville County Orphanage. It was'nt until he was 10, that the trouble-makeing Johnny-Lee was adopted into the fundamentalist home and community of local priest Theodore Rhodes and his wife and their 10-yr-old son Charlie. Jonny-Lee and Charlie were quick to be as brothers and spent much time together, starting mischief or playing around town. However, some local dispute arose as many began to realize the fact that Reverand Rhodes and his family who were Black, had adopted a young white child. Violence erupted, and in one tragic and mysterious house-fire, Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes died. No connections of foul-play were suspected. Despite the traumatic expierience, Johnny-Lee and Charlie lived off the farmland until moving on to urban Rugsville life. Here, the two youths lived through Charlies peddling of SPECIAL moonshine and Johnny's idea of becoming a clown. He soon dropped the act of *beep* the clown" in 1942 and solely dedicated his work to helping Charlie peddle his famous local-moonshine. This soon expanded into prostitution and gambling where in the summer of 1945, Johnny(now simply called *beep* killed for the first time.. his victim a man who was roughing a local-hoochie for extra lap-love. Stabbing him 47-times, *beep* went as far as to gouge out the eyes, tounge and sexual organs before he and Charlie dumped the body in the river. Soon, a mysterious rash of murders plagued Ruggsville and its surrounding areas... the bloodied, gutted and sexually raped bodies of many young girls were being found around the community. The killer known as "Candy-Cane" earned his name through having placed a candy cane in each victims vagina or arse. Many more kills were to follow the "Candy-Cane-Killers" path of death as Charlie and *beep* made it big in the Moonshine business and pimping arena. Charlie was now named Charlie Altamont and *beep* was re-nic-named (By Charlie) as "Cutter". Many things were to follow... but lets back-track all the way back in 1929 when a young baby was born to two psychotic parents in Bain County, Texas. He was named Baby No-Name and was abused repeatedly during child-hood. At age 13, he killed his first victim and soon followed with a sickly obsession of torturing animals among other forms of life. Enjoying his first kill, he worte it's gory details into a diary. Around this time, he spent his first few years in a slammer for breaking+entering and stealing. This evolved into the random in-and-out pattern of prison through the years until he was 30. Then, he killed his father in a blind-rage, stabbing him uncountable times. He was in Texas State Prison for a sentence of 20-40, but over-crowding expenses forced the law to release No-Name in 1960. Somewhere during his sentence, No-Name adopted the new identity as Otis B. Driftwood. He went on to become one of the worlds most sadistic and notorious serial-killers, killing many during his roaming years around Texas. Meanwhile, Pimp and moonshine peddler Charlie Altamont and derranged red-neck brother Cutter had watched their business fall and soon their lives parted as Charlie was busted for marijuana in 1945 and was sentenced to 20 years in Texas Maximum Security Prison. Cutter, who was the apparent "Candy-cane-killer" of Texas' southern-most communities, went back to his clowning days, and dropped his title as "Candy-Cane". He murdered almost a dozen victims through the use of a local "horror-buff" shop which lured unsuspecting targets. Then, in the fall of 1947, Cutter crossed paths with a strikingly beautiful first-class blonde whore named Eve Wilson and her sons Tiny,4, and Rufus junior,6, both boys a staggering 5'7" average height. Love struck Cutte and Eve and the two soon had a beutiful blonde baby named Vera-Ellen...

I feel Devils Reject will be the best of the year with Land in a close secound place With Amittyvill Horror comming in third.
I liked it a lot but somethings could have been improved:
SPOILERS:
There were a couple things that this movie could have improved on. It should be more scarier. I know its kinda tough to build suspense when our perspectives are from the firefly family. They could have done that with more shocking pop outs.... Another thing was Tiny coming at the end. I didnt like that. I predicted that right from the beginning. I would have put Tiny in the chairs with them all and Wydell would have killed him with an axe. And Baby could find another way to kill Wydell. I also thought that maybe a 3 on 3 battle royale would sound nice for the ending(firefly family vs Wydell, DDP, Spanish Dude).
What didnt you like about this movie and what would you change?

Devil's Rejects and High Tension are at the top of the list with no competition in sight so far imo.
Is High Tension coming out on DVD in the U.S. soon?

Not sure but you can order the UK version online, there isn't much more that could be added onto the U.S. version that isn't already on the UK version.

I might have let Wydell live, he was a great character fueled with hate. Id also have the sound of the car swerving off the road and crashing into a tree at the end during the last freezframe. deffinitly would have had Tiny not come at the end cuz that was way to predictable. And maybe possibly not have Ken Foree's character come out to help them.

SPOILERS AHEAD
Rejects is one of the best films I have seen this year.
ANd for a filmmakers second I was very impressed.
I love the ending, it reminded me of alot of old western films with the final standoff.
I found myself laughing out loud at alot of parts. Some of Moseleys lines almost had me on the floor laughing so hard.
I think people in the theater thought I was a little demented but who gives a shit.
Tiny making his return to save Baby was predictable, but where the hell is Dr. Satan???
The sound track was also excellent, every song that was played fit the moment in the film to a T.
Roger Ebert gave this film a thumbs up. I was surprised that he even reviewed it.
*ANxiously awaiting Rob Zombies next project*

Might've been his way of seperating the two films, I saw a interview where he said he didn't want Rejects to be looked at as a sequal but rather as it's own film.
SPOILER: HOKC
Rob Zombie said that Dr. Satan was suppose to be a figment of that girl's imagination in HOKC. Not real. I was surprised by it but I guess it makes more sense because it was pretty ridiculous in my opinion.

I also absolutley loved the ending, it was both dramatic and funny to me....the theatre died laughing when Otis stopped the car and sat for what seemed like ages, then the screen pans to the road block. Honsesty, I didn't see that coming, and it actually made me sad, The way it was filmed was even perfect...I wouldn't change anything about the ending, but I guess if I had SOMETHING my way I would have not replaced Mother Firefly. Leslie Easterbrook just bugged me to no end. I'da killed her off at the begining with grampa.
SPOILER: to carpe
Hello? Anyone up there. About the twist: I was referring to sheriff wydell eventually turning into the same violent psycho that he so hated and was hunting...... Uh duh! That is a TWIST that most people didnt see coming. Uh duh!

Doesn't really make sense that Wydell would tie him up, If he would've had a face to face encounter with Tiny he wouldn't have been able to knock him out and tie him up because he's to damn big and strong. So when you think about it all Wydell would've been able to do in a face to face encounter is shoot Tiny. So it may have been predictable but there's no such thing as a perfect/flawless film and it did fit so I think it's fine the way it is.

Make me.
EDIT
And besides, that's not a fucking twist. There are a shitload of movies that have the old "I swear not to become what I despise" type bullshit. And you don't see that at the end of the movie, you see that right when Wydel kills Mother Firefly. If you don't sense it at that moment and which way the movie is going, you're a fucking retard.
^^^^^ SPOILER for the above crap.
Some people cant comprehend what spoiler means.
Spoiler:
Here is a definition of the word "twist". A twist is an unexpected change in a process or a departure from a pattern, often producing a distortion or perversion. The sheriff going crazy and becoming just as a psycho and violent as the criminals is out of the ordinary for a sheriff. Even though you seen "a billion movies" where the sheriff goes insane, it wasnt what many people EXPECTED from the law man... You may have seen a billion movies that did this before, but i havent seen it. Im sure many people thought the sheriff was a good guy and then realized a "twist" in the story when he was talking to himself or stabbing mother firefly. It doesnt necessarily have to be the "Shocking twist at the last 2 minutes of the movie" for a twist to happen.
Who gives a fu#$ if "good cop gone bad" has been done before? That doesnt mean that it cant be considered as a twist. You can spit out some bullshit and say you knew all along that the sheriff was going to go psycho right from the beginning and you knew how the story was going to unfold. PS...Name the "shitload of movies" that used the "good cop gone violently insane" theme.

No, I know what spoiler means, you're the one who just can't understand what "I don't give a shit" means.
And I don't consider this kind of action a twist in a movie anymore because it's part of a lot of modern day movies. I never said "Good cop gone violently insane" as cop movies these days are shit. They're all about some stupid ass white guy paired with some urban black guy. What I said was ""I swear not to become what I despise" type of twist. Learn to fucking read.
