So a friend from work came to my house for the first time and when he saw my DVD collection jokingly asked 'How much time have you wasted on movies?' Now, I don't have what I consider a huge collection, but it did get me thinking, how much time have I 'wasted'?
After much math I figured out that since I was 14 I have spent about two full days (46.6 sleepless hours) a year watching movies. Or one long sleepless month total. I don't think that's so bad.

i can think of worse ways to waste time ..
like anything on TV for instance ..
i'll add to that ...
is viewing any other form of art a waste of time ?
looking at a painting - a statue ...
listening to music ?
what constitutes a waste of time anyway ?
i would rather be doing something - true .. but sometimes the body needs rest - and some movies require viewing (in my opinion)
if i enjoy it - it stimulated something in me - doesnt seem like a waste of time ..
this arguement could eventually lead to the 'all life is pointless' road sooner or later ... but i dont think so .. if you enjoy something - then your time is well spent..

Az, tell your friend to kiss your ass. Movies are a good way of wasting time: entertainment, though provoking, mental stimulation, etc.
I don't think you've done anything wrong. Enjoy yourself. There are far worse things to be doing.

use your time wisely..... you can own and enjoy films for a lifetime, or you can ponder why someone would do such a thing, and waste time.

If you're doing something you enjoy and it's making you happy then how could that possibly be viewed as wasting time.
Movies, other than for entertainment, can be a good stress reducer! That's one of the things that I use them for. Fed up with work, the wife, the kids etc...put in a good movie that will totally remove you from reality for 90-120 minutes. Makes me feel better. Remember, stress is a killer!
And besides, you could be wasting your time by doing crack, doing a crack whore, or in prison for dealing - sharing a cell with cousin It.:D

You could be doing voluntary work as a missionary instead, or helping out at an orphanage.

If watching movies is a waste of time, how much of a waste is it to participate in a forum about movies?
I think I just took that to another level...

I watch a fair number of movies. And if its good then I don't consider it a waste of time. Unfortunates, I end up seeing too many shitty ones.

Yea thiers nothing worse than seeing a shitty film espesially if you spent money on it. the only really shitty film i saw that i didnt like was i thought brain damage was boring and dumb, i actually kinda amazed though that you only spend 46 hours out of a whole year watching movies, id be extremely scared to see how many hours ive had go bye me watching horror films.

i own close to 700 movies between vhs and dvd. my apt looks like a damn video store. sometimes i think about what a waste of time and money this collection is. but then i wake up on sunday mornings with a vicious hangover and i thank my lucky stars for this collection (and gatorade).
