You do know what 'horror' means, right? It doesn't mean gore, if that's what you're asking.

HORROR:
# An intense, painful feeling of repugnance and fear. See Synonyms at fear.
# Intense dislike; abhorrence.
# A cause of horror.
# Informal. Something unpleasant, ugly, or disagreeable: That hat is a horror.
# horrors Informal. Intense nervous depression or anxiety.

I'd say it has plenty of the above.

No shit?

I guess a lot of movies can be called "horror" movies then.

Mickey Rourke in a good role, Deniro as the devil and Lisa Bonet gets naked... long ways from the Cosby Show...

But sweet flick.

Not really a spoiler, it says it on the back of the box and any review you read about it.

One of my favorite movies. I'm going to have to get the book, I didn't know there was an original novel the movie was based on just figured it was one excellent screenplay. Warning: you'll never feel the same about gumbo, chicken or press on nails again!

Dont ever post another Richard Greico picture in horror.com thread. Was that a screen shot from "Angel Heart"?

Well, if it's faithful to the book, it has a kickass ending!

This is really a great movie, it covers the genres of horror, mystery, and film-noir. Mickey Rourke is awsome as always, this would make a great double bill with his recent noirish horror opus Sin City.

Also, has anyone ever seen Johnny Handsome, I know it's not horror, but it kinda bridges Rourke's career in neo-noir between the two above mentioned films. Furthermore, it kicks ass.

Lisa Bonet: probably the most unappealing and unattractive presence in a horror film, or any film, for that matter, ever.

Therefore, please send all copies of this film to me, so that I may put them in a safe place and then the image of Lisa Bonet will never hurt anyone ever again. I offer this service free of charge.

My favorite Mickey Rourke film is Barfly. But I really dig Johnny Handsome, Year of the Dragon...... his character in Spun was fuckin' cool aswell. Man that cracked me up him and Rob Halford having a argument in the porno store! He's definatley a underated talent that should be utilised more. Looking foward to seeing Sin City it might give him the comeback he needs (shit if Travolta can do it he'll have no problem).

He is underrated. I loved Barfly as well. I have yet to see Johnny Handsome.
Angel Heart is a great film. Funny though no one I know likes that movie except me.

No accounting for people's taste sometimes :)

Johnny Handsome is a great fuckin' movie. I really like the director Walter Hill (48 Hrs, The Warriors) so I'm a bit biased. It has Lance Henriksen in it too.

True enough. ;)

I have wanted to see it. But I can't seem to find a copy of it. I didn't even know Lance Henriksen was in it....now I have to see it. :p

Rourke has been my favorite actor since seeing Rumblefish years ago .. i should make a seperate thread but fuck it - i'll idol worship in this one ...

(my holy trinity)
rumblefish
pope of greenwich villiage
diner

followed by :

angel heart
johnny handsome
barfly
year of the dragon
Sin City

(not in any order)

i have a lot of others and although he ended up in a lot of stinkers - he was always the best thing in them ..

i once saw a review of him that said "10 minutes of mickey rourke in a bad movie is better than a good Tom Cruise movie' and i share that belief ...

^^ I'd have to agree with that one.

Mr Rourke seemed to end up in every shitty b-movie for awhile there didn't he? I forgot about Pope of Greenwich Villiage, I really enjoyed that a few years ago when I saw it. Not as cool as Mean Streets but still excellent. Haven't checked out Rumble Fish yet but I've read the book many times.

Another one of his I really liked was Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man. That movie got a lot of shit but I thought it was fucking fun and I loved it.

I wouldn't say 'Angelheart' is a horror film at all. It's more of a throwback to the old gumshoe detective noirs (like 'Chinatown'). It has some nightmarish imagery of blood and voodoo, but not a true horror film. For the record, I enjoyed it and would personally like to jump on Lisa Bonet as well :D

Rumble Fish, both the book and the movie are great. It is actually one I didn't even think about though until Urge mentioned it.

I loved Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man as well. And again, I am the only person I know that likes that movie. :p But I kind of understand why with that one.

oh .. and for the record ...

i still consider it horror ...

mystery-horror if you like .. but in my own little personal world once the supernatural is involved (i.e. the devil making an appearance) i file it under horror ..
