We've done the Metal one so now its time for........ The Punk Quiz (http://www.youthink.com/quiz.asp?action=take&quiz_id=659)

I got Classic Punker...... which doesn't really seem like me but oh well.

Punk Rocker!!!

Bad Religion(pictured), Pennywise, Mike V and The Rats, etc:You're somewhat of a punker. You kind of have the opposite effect of a poser. You don't really tend to have the look of a punker, but you play the music. One of my favorite kinds of punk!

That's actually extremely accurate and it listed 2 of my favorite bands!

I kinda figured though, if bwind22 got that I knew for a fact I'd get it too.

hahaha... I am a Alternative Punker!!!

"Green Day, Blink 182, Afi, etc:You pretty much either used to be punk, and softened up, or you are one love song away from a poser."

Those are my favourite bands!! How did they know I love Blink 182! this quiz couldn't be any more true

Those bands aren't even Alternative, they are emo. retards. This quiz is biased and fucking stupid. Who ever made this quiz didn't know fucking shit about punk and should be shot in the face. All those "Punk Rockers" are really poser faggots. fuck them

Classic Punker!!!

Sex Pistols(pictured), Ramones, Misfits, etc:You are original with your punk. Some people think you're not real punk, but you're what started punk. Kick ass!

wow, thats a real fucked quiz! I don't even have a British accent!

oh, and Green Day is alternitive, not emo.

What type of PUNKER are you???
Pop Punker!!!

Good Charolette(pictured),Simple Plan, New Found Glory, etc:You are whats known as a poser. You have the look down(possibly), but the music is way off. You pretty much suck, and your only fans, are teeny popper girls. Please Stop!

hahahahahhahahahahhahahahah

i hate that band and i love the pistols.

the quiz is saying that you cant appreciate punk if you are established with a home and family.

only disenchanted youth can be punks ...

true i guess - but i never was a punk - i just liked the music.

on the other hand - is ome respects i was very much a punk - i was/am all about the basics - and being myself ..

thos were punk ideals before it turned into a fashion statement.
I've always maintained that the Pistols were the only true punk band and true punk died with them..

And you know what ! fuck that! "Alternative" is a name for bands that are unique and have different sounds you can't label.

Like Radiohead, Talkingheads, The Pixies, all bands that you can't label easily.

Green day is fucking softcore/emo! No self respecting punk band would call their album a "Punk Opera".

Yeah...That one was pretty lame...

I got Pop Punker, too...I like a couple of songs by Good Charlotte (Bloody Valentine is my favorite by them)...But, can I really be considered a 'poser' when I never claimed or tried to be 'punk' in the first place?

Hmm...Now I'm wondering if there's a 'Goth' quiz...lol...I'd like to see what that one says about me...and about you guys...hahaha...I just might be able to prove Urge wrong...

No way! There were heaps of "true punk bands" before and after them. I think the Pistols were more of a rock n roll band than a punk band. There's some truely amazing modern punk bnads out there at the moment..... there just hidden away from the majority of music press and probably prefer it that way. Some notable bands are Aus-Rotten, Severed Head Of State, Tragedy, Provoked and Witch Hunt.

Definatley. Whoever made it was a bit of a dipshit stuck in the whole cliched Epitaph Records, Sex Pistols, Exploited kinda idea. They obviously don't know shit about punk. It was probably made by some 13 y.o kid. Stupid really but as I said something to do.....

Yep, those are the two. Bad Religion is my all time favorite band. Pennywise's older stuff is AWESOME! They're in my top 10 all time.

Regarding Green Day... They definately were punk when they came out. (And no, Dookie wasn't their first album. There was 2 before that on Lookout! Records.) Then they signed to Reprise, put out Dookie, got introduced to MTV and the rest is history. Their latest album is experimental. It could actually be considered their 'punkest' in terms of content. The entire album carries an very strong anti-government message. (In terms of music, label, popularity though, it is far from their 'punkest' one.) While I can see why you would say that about a few songs off of the new album, I would never go so far as to say 'Green Day is an emo band.'

Blink-182 is kinda the same as Green Day. Cheshire Cat is an excellent, fast, three chord, power punk album, then they switched labels, put out Dude Ranch and became teen idols. I never would have considered them 'emo' either until this latest album they put out. That thing is the biggest bunch of crap I've ever heard. The fact that bands like this jump to a major labels for distribution and money purposes pretty much takes them out of punk consideration right there because the idea of punk is to be rebelling against corporate pop rock and in many cases government and other positions of authority.

Bands that come out now like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan never were really punk to begin with. They saw bands like Green Day & Offspring on tv in the mid/late 90s and said, "Oh, that's what's making money now? We can do that." Bands like these were sellouts from the moment they were formed.

But never fear... There are still good punk bands out there that have not and will not ever sell out to the corporate major labels. Bad Religion, NOFX , Pennywise, Pulley, No Use for a Name, Lagwagon, Guttermouth, The Living End, Tilt and Millencolin just to name a few that I like.

Pistols were the punkest of the punk. They had no musical talent and they didn't even give a shit. It was all about chaos and anrachy for them. They embodied a truely 'punk' attitude.

I consider Velvet Underground to be the first 'punk' band. I'm not really familiar with them too much, but I like Lou Reed's solo stuff and I give credit where it's due.

Obviously, this is all just my own personal opinion, but it's right, so get over it. ;)

If the Pistols had no musical talent they couldn't have recorded a album or even write a good song.

MC5, The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop were the first seeds of punk rock. They are all rock n roll bands with very unique music.

Sid didn't even know how to play when the Pistols formed and we've all heard their rather crass vocals. Even their fans won't argue the fact that they lacked musical talent (That's not what their fans care about.) Whether you like them or not isn't relevent when considering whether or not they were punk. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but I give credit where it's due. They were essentially the epitome of 'punk'.

They were an aggresive, but crappy, rock band from England that blew up because people were sick of disco. They made a lasting impression on music in general and if they never existed, music would probably sound pretty different right now.

Yes, Sid didn't have any musicial talent. Sid was just a face on stage, a filler. But even over time Sid wanted too get better and by the end of the American Tour he learned all the songs.

But for the rest of the band, they all had talent. Just because you can't sing, drum, or play guitar the proper way doesn't mean you have no talent. Like I said before "They couldn't write songs or record a album that changed Rock n Roll histroy if they didn't have any".

What Sex Pistols fans have you talked too? I agrue that REAL fans would stick up for them and say they had talent. And no, I am not a huge fan.

People were sick of Disco? Thats why the Sex pistol blew up? The Disco era was 1977-1980. Disco was nothing when Punk started. The Sex Pistols blew up in 1976.... so how can people be sick of a type of music that wasn't even massive yet?

Get your facts straight.

Okay, so you concede an obvious lack of talent...

But for the rest of the band, they all had talent. Just because you can't sing, drum, or play guitar the proper way doesn't mean you have no talent. Like I said before "They couldn't write songs or record a album that changed Rock n Roll histroy if they didn't have any".

If someone can't sing, play guitar or drum, then they don't have musical talent, which is what I said. They changed the face of the music industry because they were the right band at the right time.

What Sex Pistols fans have you talked too? I agrue that REAL fans would stick up for them and say they had talent. And no, I am not a huge fan.

I could list off about 100 names of "REAL" fans who think that, but what good would that do? You wouldn't know any of them anyways... (As a matter of fact, I can't think of 1 single person who I have ever heard say, "Wow! Listen to this harmony!" or "Whoa! What a riff!" or anything along those lines.) I know a lot of people who like them, but what they like about them is 1)The rawness of the music, 2)the chaos and anarchy of the lyrics, and 3) the overall attitude of the band.

People were sick of Disco? Thats why the Sex pistol blew up? The Disco era was 1977-1980. Disco was nothing when Punk started. The Sex Pistols blew up in 1976.... so how can people be sick of a type of music that wasn't even massive yet?

Get your facts straight.

I kinda mis-spoke on that. When I said disco before, I actually meant the hippy/classic rock type shit. My bad.

The punks were sick of the hippy music, and not into disco (Which was getting big around the same time.) so they started their own sound.

not so much disco - but over produced sterile music ..
the pistols were all about stripping it down and getting back to basic rock and roll .. a la the eddie cochrane covers (scuse me if i spelled his name wrong)

I've never really been huge on The Clash either. They defintaley had some great songs but none of their albums have ever really kept me interested. I watched their move Rude Boy recently and enjoyed it a lot.
The Pistols and a lot of the 'punk' bands mentioned here are rock n roll bands to me. Punk for me never really kicked of until bands like Crass and Discharge came onto the scene. But as far as I'm concerned is more an attitude than a style of music. The first punk in my opinion was Hank Williams then their were the 60s garage bands like The Sonics (these guys started the so-called 'punk sound' and were highly influential on bands like the MC5, Stooges ect).

talent can be measured in many ways ...
it's impossible to put out an album that good without some
form of talent ... raw energy used effectively is talent ...

so yeah.

(although Malcolm may have had more talent than all of them)

like said in an earlier post - there are people who are extremely competent with their instruments - but they lack something ...

look at an obvious example ... celine dion .... sure she has a powerful incredible voice - but she choses to use it on garbage music (in my opinion)

the technically proficient members of Yes have talent ... but i'd take Bollocks over any Yes album anyday...

yeah i'd say that the pistols were talented ... maybe not technically proficient - but that didnt matter as far as the music they chose to make ...

The first two did have some cool shit on them but I just can't stand them anymore because of continued thrashing of them by friends & enemies alike. Zep are a band that just seems to eclipse a lot of good old shit and people just don't relise that there are other groups out there. There's some bands I just wish I'd never heard of so I could rediscover them again (Beatles, Floyd, The Ramones and a bunch of other oldies). But Zep will still always be a bit too self indulgent for me especially these days that shit just doesn't cut it with me anymore.

Yeh those Cobain T-Shirts fucked me off enough the first time around total exploitation.... it's lame there rearing their ugly head again. Nothing's scared anymore and the comodify anything.

Yep there is a female singer in Crass. If you dig the female singer you should check out the album Penis Envy its mainly her vocals. My favorite Crass record is Feeding of the 5000. Crass will always be an important band to me because they were the first group to deal with woman's rights issues in a effective way. I really like a lot of their music because it had a crazy no-wave thing going on way before anyone did it. Their artwork was always great too I love how the LP covers would fold out into a awesome poster (my favorite is the Your Country Needs You one).
