I've seen the Japanese version and it's not very good. It's like a less interesting version Ringu but with a girl in a water tower instead of a well.

I'll see it for Jennifer Connelly.
She's super.

i thought the origional was pretty good ..
it suffers from predictability which is a result of the sameness of Japanese horror films as of late..
otherwise it's still a well made solid film.
i'm starting to loose the point of seein the remakes ..
I was happy with the american Grudge - and the ring ...
i'm getting tired of the formula though - in both japanese and
american.

Agreed.
It´s not enough that they are well made or even good. WE LIKE TO SEE SOMETHING NEW NOW!!!!
I checked the movie times... This movie is barely getting played... Only 5 times today... Even DOTD is being played more than Dark Water at 6 times. Interesting. I would figure lot of people would be interested in this movie. War of the Worlds is being played 23 times today. I will probably go check Dark Water out. I have yet to see the original.

Dark Water was so watered down. (pun inteanded) :p Anyways yeah it suck so bad, I blam Disney for making it safe like they do with everything.
I havent seen the original or the re-make... It seems to be getting mix reviews... I'll probably wait for it on DVD. Is the original much better than the re-make?? If so, then I'll rent that.

The original was decent. The action was GREAT at the end (scene in the elevator mainly) but the rest sort of drug. But that aside I refuse to go see the remake. I'm sick of americanized Japanese movies. It doesn't mean we're getting a bit of culture in our lives it just means writers are getting lazy...the bastards...

The aforementioned elevator-scene at the end of the original was very scary.

After the mixed reviews, this film wound up being better than I expected. It's slow and my mind wandered occasionally (because I already knew the story from the Japanese original). But the dank atmosphere is great, and so is Connelly's performance as the distraught mother.
In comparison to the original, it fares better than THE RING, mostly because the Japanese DARK WATER is not such an untouchable masterpiece -- it's good, not great.

Would it be vulgar to reveal Dark Water fell from my Ring after a night on the Japanese beer?

ha. ha. you guys are so funny
bunch of lame brains
I havent seen the original. However, this movie is the cure for insomnia. They could have made this into a 30 mins movie. For an hour and half, I was like "get to the point already". I kept looking at my watch to see the time go by as i waited for some creepy part. Never happened. This movie isnt creepy at all unless 3 inches of water freaks you out. I cant even remember any creepy parts at all. Also, its so damn predictable. Im sure most of us knew the ending before it happened. The acting was fine though because jennifer connelly and that little girl were fine. Bad movie and a waste of $9.75. I give it a 5/10.
SPOILER..???
Why was the father smoking with the kid? Was he telling that kid to mess with Jennifer Connelly? If so, what were those kids doing?
