Boy, 11, Knifes Crying Baby Because He Kept Dying In 'Incredibles' Game
United Kingdom - An 11 year-old boy plunged a knife into his baby nephew whose crying was putting him off his PlayStation game, a court heard yesterday.
The child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admits stabbing the seven-month old infant in the stomach on December 15 last year but denies attempted murder.
Gary Burrell QC, prosecuting, told the jury the baby was in his carrycot when the boy pulled back the covers and knifed him in the abdomen.
Asked later by police how he felt, the boy, now 12, replied: "I was a bit like a volcano. An erupting volcano." He then changed out of his pyjamas into his school clothes to fetch his mother from a friend's house, telling her: "I have done something awful, something really bad has happened to the baby."
The boy, from North Lincs, said he had taken the knife from the kitchen to fix a McDonald's toy but lost control when his character in The Incredibles - the game he was playing on his console - kept dying.
His nephew had three tears in his stomach but surgeons saved his life.
The infant's mother - the boy's sister - was in hospital with a mental illness, Hull crown court heard.
But the 11-year-old's mum said he was protective of the baby who he "adored". The case continues.
