While I think a lot of the performers genuinely don't like the current situation in Africa I struggle to fathom what this indulgent display ofwelthy westerners will acheive:

*it's not a fundraising event, it's solely to "raise awareness of how bad the situation in africa is.

* If the original live aid was so succesful why did all the millions of supporters go ahead and vote in the reagans and thatchers of the 1980s who did little to remedy the problems in africa

* if the people who are going to the concerts genuinely cared then why don't they join the marchs and lobby groups?

* Aren't most of the acts ageing rock dinosaurs who are using it to boost public profile and pick up ailing CD sales?

This was posted in another forum by someone else but it sums up my thoughts on Live 8 totally.

I don't care much about the politics of it, I mostly just tuned in to see Pink Floyd

hey, at least I'm being honest. I'm not one of those fake hippies the talking morons from MTVH1 interviewed that acted like they gave 2 shits about it. I sat there eating a big 'ol steak while watching it.

LMAO

Since it was brought up, how were they? They were performing with Roger Waters for the first time in years, correct? I didn't watch, I forgot all about it....

this was the first time they'd performed together since they broke up, which was early 80's (just after The Final Cut).

They were fan-fucking-tastic

Damn, I can't believe I missed it! I saw Pink Floyd back in '94 and it remains one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

Again, I can't believe I missed this.

this was beyond incredible. And it was only 4 songs. They did Breathe (the full version, a and b), Money, Wish You Were Here, and Comfortably Numb. I hit the roof when they started to play Comfortably Numb, since it's my favorite Floyd song, and I wasn't sure they were gonna do anything from the Wall

it wasn't just MTV, it was an MTVH1 simulcast. I watched it on AOL.com so I got to hear all of Comfortably Numb

Paul McCartney blew me away. He did a great job in controlling the audience - got them all excited with "Helter Skelter", and then calmed them down with "Winding Road" - and then, when the audience felt okay in knowing the concert was at its end, he jams things up with "Hey Jude" so everyone can sing along. What a finish. Good man, good man.

Seemed like a BS concert..... As soon as they keep on harping on "We dont want your money", Im scratching my head.... I would prefer them to want my money because money is whats needed to feed them. Then they are gonna have those 100s of thousands of people watch the concert for FREE... I wonder how many of those people actually opened up their wallet after seeing their favorite band. Those artists that were performing were receiving various gifts and gift baskets and the people in Africa only got "awareness". But atleast all the members of Maroon 5 got IPODs.

I remember watching the first Live Aid on MTV and it was awful - 2 minutes of music for every 20 minutes of ads for the charity. Personally, I think all those big rich rock stars ought to have to open up their vaults and they could make a big dent in world hunger (hell, elton john's eyeglass account alone could feed most of Sierra Leone).

Africa has had the same amount of money as **30** Martial Aid Plans (the Aid America gave to Europe after WW2).

The UK has currently gaiven 220 Billion............220 Billion was the amount stolen by corrupt BLACK AFRICAN OFFICIALS in Nigeria!
220 Billion...GONE!

The ONLY people feeding everyone in Zimbabwe were the generations of White Farmers. Zimbabwe once produced MORE FOOD THAN IT NEEDED.
All the White Farmers were kicked out by a BLACK AFRICAN (as good as) Dictator. NOW...Zimbabwe NEEDS FOOD AID and can't feed itself.

South Africa (not helped by moronic Catholic doctrine it has to be said) did NOTHING to combat Aids. the BLACK AFRICAN government refused to agree that HIV caused Aids. AFRICA ITSELF is repsonsible for the Aids epidemic thanks to it's own Governments.

South Africa (and it's Government set up by Saint Mandela...who given his history of oppresion should know better!!) purchased BILLIONS of dollars worth of arms (for a f*****g Airforce and Navy!!!! Why??!) from VERY oppresive regimes while doing NOTHING to help the rampant poverty and the spread of Aids.

South Africa now has MORE millionare Blacks than there were once Whites...and they live in huge gated, guarded communities while the majority of it's people live in squaler and crime.

Zimbabwe is being bulldozed to pieces, it's people are being killed and oppressed by....A BLACK AFRICAN LEADER. While NONE of the leaders in Africa condemn the actions!!

Africa is riddled with oppresive regimes, mass murdering dictators and rampant financial/AID STEALING corruption.

Africa is riddled with ceaseless civil wars that make millions of innocents homeless and spread poverty and death.

And in all this there is not a White/Western face involved!

AFRICA has to sort ITSELF out before it makes ANY USE AT ALL to send endless billions to it..as most of those billions get wasted and stolen.

YES Africa needs the chance to trade fairly in competition so it can feed itself and build it's economies up...THAT needs doing. But all the rest is bulls**t.

And I notice that those that took part in 'Live 8' have had a 200%-700% increase in record sales!!!!
So these MULTI MULTI MULTI MULTI MULTI MILLIONARES have even more millions!
Fancy giving a large chunk of all these MILLIONS to Africa?

It comes to something when we have the likes of Brad Pitt and Bono clicking their fingers every second for when another child dies in Africa!!! The yearly earnings of JUST those 2 could save countless hundreds!!
