I just watched The Exorcist 3 about five minutes ago so i figure i should review it while everything's still fresh in my mind.
First of all, i loved it. It's not as good as the origional, obviously, but it's pretty damn close. It did remind me of Se7en a little because it was a lot of crime solving, cop wango-tango which i really don't mind. But hell, it's pretty much a "there is a demon/devil killing people, WTF n00b?" plot, so there is nothing (well, actualy there are a few things) new there. Let me give you the highlight factors.
There are sheeted people decapitating nurses with big-ass hedge trimmer looking things.
A priest's skin molds to the cealing and peals off in hunks.
There are chainsmoking priests, and the priest from the first movie.
An old woman crawling around very quickly on the cealing of a hospital.
An old woman talking about slitting a girls throat in the park to her minister in a confession booth.
If this is not enough to make you at least rent this movie then you're fucking lost. Really, there is nothing i can say i dislike about this movie.
Oh, and i guess this was Jeffery Dahmer's favorite flick too.

Fabio's in it too - anyone remember when he got smacked in the face by that goose when riding a roller coaster?
What do you mean, "no"?

Excellent movie. In many ways (dare I say?) better than the Exorcist. More character developement. And how can you go wrong with George C. Scott, Viveca Lindfors (the ceiling-crawling nurse) and Brad Dourif?

I don't think it even touches the first one, but it is far better than what I saw of Exorcist 2 (can't even make it through that one). My expectations were very low going into this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it.

The conversation between cop George C Scott and the priest about the fish in the bathtub is strangely memorable - this film veers from strange comedy (Fabio, the carp swimming up and down...) to pure adult horror very effectively.

i thought it was a great movie .. a couple of really memorable scares ...great dialogue, commited performances ..
very effective pacing. it might be a little to slow - too talky - for some folks .. but i enjoyed all of it.

This film is excellent, any fan of the original Exorcist should definitely watch, even though it is as much a stand-alone film as a sequel. Unlike 'The Heretic' and 'Exorcist: The Beginning' it does not just rely on people's love of the original concepts, but carves it's own niche. Of course it doesn't compare with The Exorcist, but it's still a great movie, and you just have to laugh at the Priest peeling from the ceiling...

Pretty much my thoughts. The Exorcist has been my all-time favorite Horror film since its ORIGINAL release in 1973. The Heretic, IMO, was more of an attempt at a "cash-in on the name" scheme...I hated it (I haven't watched it for years, have recently been given thought to watching it again with a more open attitude).
Although not on the same level as the Exorcist, I like #3 very much. It continued the same story revolving around Damien Karras from the original, and with George C. Scott, you can't go wrong. The film had several memorable moments in it, like the skin peeling, the ceiling walk, that excellent scene with G.C.S. in the coffee shop talking about the fish - funny as hell, and the showdown at the end.
I also liked Exorcist: The Beginning. Maybe just because it was a prequel to the original, but I thought that it was good. No real scares, but gave good background on the characters and the exorcism that "damn near killed him" as mentioned in the first film, which peeked my intrest even way back then.

Yeah, this was a pretty effective film. It's the only Exorcist sequel taht's worth wile and doesn't degenerate into a lot of preaching and postureing, unlike Exorcist II and both versions of Exorcist: The Beggining (what was the first version released as: Dominion: The Prequel To The Exorcist? Who cares, they both sucked).
