Yeah, but they charge us every time something breaks. I threw a candle through my wall a couple months ago and they charged me 200 bucks.

Replacing a light bulb is 7 dollars, so you can understand the kind of folks I'm dealing with.

That honestly sounds like the old apartment I had when I was in college. They charged us insanely inflated prices to replace things.
Funny you mention a door...I got a bill for $350 to fix a door 6 months after I had already moved out. If you guessed I didn't pay it, you'd be correct ;)

What a scam:p

You threw a candle through your wall? High stress day or is that just something you do for fun?

;)

My apartment sucks too...they don't charge us for stuff that breaks, but they raise the rent every chance they get. They are really a bunch of money-sucking

When i get an "actual" job I'm starting an apartment company and I'm just going to send my tenants letters every day asking for a hundred bucks.

Fun? No... but it's an urge. An uncontrollable urge to destroy my surroundings. And if I don't quench it with violence, well then...

Not if I have anything to say about it, they won't!

That's it! I'm writing a curt letter!

Hmm....shouldn't your deposit cover shit like that? Like the stuff YOU break? Everything else is the owners responsibility

Yeah, that deposit's probably long gone by now. After the broken garbage disposal, the wall, the door, and damage to the actual complex that is charged to all the tenants, I'm sure the we;;'s all but dried up.

Better than people.

When the Cubs lost the 2003 NLDS, I took a curlbar and removed all the weights, grabbed a milk crate and beat the hell out of it in the backyard.

It was either that or physically wound my roommates.

If you fix it yourself they cant charge you.... Start reading fix it books then put flyers up in your appartments complex to fix others broken stuff at reduced rates in no time your be making a nice profit. You are not a slave to the man, the man is a slave to you.

\Damn what fun is that, wounding roomates is a highlight of my week. :D As long as your lease, rental agreement isn't "AS IS" all maintance cost should be at the expense of the owner.. at least thats what my encounters have taught me. Normally, KEY WORD, NORMALLY the deposit doesnt apply to damages until the final inspection of the unit and then the charges are deducted from that. I've never heard of slum-lords like that.. In the state you live in there should be a web site that explains RENTERS RESPONIBILITIES and OWNERS RESPONSIBILITES..it's a local service..there are laws that protect you from slum-lords you dont need an attorney just the insentive to look them up and oppose your landlord...hope some of this makes since and deems helpful..if not please ignor my ramblings...I havent beat the shit out of my roommate lately..built-up aggression

did it break through general wear 'n tear?? then it's down to him to fork out the bill....tell him to fuck right off it's not your responsibility.

unless you or your frineds busted it, with or without knowing, then the land lord will probably get all arsey about it if you refuse to pay for repares.

at My first apartment, we had a ton of shit break, plus we managed to damage quite a bit ourselves. On top of that, we smoked almost constantly in a non-smoking apartment. Rather than deal with any of that bullshit (and since my room mate had recently fucked me out of over 2 grand) i left and stuck him with dealing with it :)

Shit, don't tell them. Go to Lowes, Home Depot or somewhere, get the shit yourself and fix it. Holes in walls and door replacements are simple tihngs to repair. It'd save you a bundle from the looks of it.
