I know that this has probably been talked to death...but I'm interested in purchasing a couple of his films to check out...I was thinking of Suspiria and Tenebre. Good choices or do you have other suggestions?

I barely know anything about either one...but I've heard that Suspiria is visually stunning.

Any advice would be appreciated. :)

Tenebre is my favorite, which I think I have mentioned several times. Suspiria has a great start and one of the best death scenes ever put on film. The look of the movie is beautiful, with really vibrant colors, but unfortunately the storyline gets a little weak toward the end. Those are still the two I would recommend though.

But Deep Red is another that I would consider, because I think that in many ways it is a superior film to Suspiria.

Hey chickie! I haven't seen you for a few days!
Thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll pick up all 3 if I'm feeling daring;) I hope a few more people reply, and that I don't get flamed too much for talking about Argento films again ;) :D

Go for Creeepers its easier to follow than most of his other films. Terror At The Opera is a good one too.

I'd stick with 'Suspiria' myself. Everything good or bad about Argento is summed up in that film to the umpteenth power.
'Deep Red' is actually in public domain and you might luck out and find it in the DVD bargain bin released by some company you've never heard of. Mine showed up that way in a '10 movies on 5 DVDs' horror collection.

I'd go with a movie that, while not necessarily being typical Argento, showcases how great of a director he can be. Thus, I'd say watch Trauma. It's evident in his other movies (especially Suspiria) that he's good, but Trauma shows it best.

Go with Deep Red, then Suspiria and Inferno. After them, go Phenomena(?), Tenebre and Opera. You will not be disappointed. Be sure to get the special editions though, as they look incredible.

Suspiria is great but maybe a not the best movie to start seeing Argento's movies. Deep red is excelent (it was my first Argento's movie). I adveise you to see that one first.

First of all, it's Italian, not Italien. Second of all, why? Deep Red is in English for the majority of the movie. The long lost scenes that are added have English subtitles. But they add up to about 20 minutes of the 2 hour movie, collectively.

And when that music kicks in...oh boy is it great!

Yeah, Deep Red was recorded in English. The only scenes that are in Italian =the 'lost footage' which has been restored. But its no big deal...you may not even notice

TheOmen

It was originally recorded in english. As are most of Argento's films. The reason why the mouth sometimes does not match the words is because they re-record the dialogue in post. Some actors speak Italian, though...but it's still dubbed English.

I guess Im in the minority when I was disappointed when i bought and saw Susperia.... So much hype and I didnt find the plot to be that good and characters to be interesting and where is all the gore?! The good thing about it was the music. It was creepy and very loud.

Tenebre and definitely my favorite of the two Argento films that I have seen, the other being Suspiria. They both are definitely worth seeing and worth buying. I still need to see Deep Red, Opera and Inferno, if you see any of these three let me know how they are, ok?

Bah! Poppycock!

Plenty of gore(like that matters.. .). And the story ....it serves the purpose which is to kill people and look damn nice doing it.
