Why is it that some of the most likeable characters in movies are complete cowards?
Some examples:
Hudson (Aliens)
Guy Fleegman (Galaxy Quest)
I guess there is something about a grown man nearly shitting himself is funny under the right circumstances...
Hudson: oh great, this is just fucking great! What are we gonna do now man? What are we gonna do?! We're in some pretty shit now, man!
Guy: I wanna go back.. I wanna wait ont he ship...
Alexander: What? you want go back? After the fuss you put up...
Guy: That's when i thought i was the guiy who gets killed waiting behind on the ship. now im thinking im the guy who dies whithin the first five minutes on theplanet. i dont even have a last name!
Madison: Guy, you have a last name...
Guy: DO I?! DO I?! (starts crying) MOMMY! MOMMY!
lol.. i love those guys...
I never liked Hudson...found him annoying.
Guy, on the other hand, was a funny bastard.

Shaggy and Scoobie. They're cowardly characters, they believe in cowardice and sandwiches

but they always step up to the plate.
i know there are others - minor characters that are the ones that want to 'run away' in the horror movies ...
they usually get killed right away...
i just cant think of any...

I hated that character. For years, I couldn't stand Bill Paxton because of that movie...LOL....he irritated the hell out of me. But I thought he was a funny, sleazy coward in True Lies.:D

the preppy coward in cabin fever almost made it. almost. I always thought fly guy was a coward that tried to act tough. And then Barbra, what a spastic coward. Savini's barbra was a hard core bull dike, zombie slaying machine. Steve Bushimi makes a great coward.

Worst of the worst that I was praying he'd get killed sooner:
Franklin, the guy in the wheelchair from 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre'. His constant whining (esp over the damn flashlight) grates on me.

Another great one, bronson pinchot in True Lies. Rides out the gunfight like a true hero, sobbing uncontrollably until killed by a stray bullet.

Yeah, he was. That is one of my favorite vampire movies and I am glad I finally got over my dislike of Bill Paxton because now I have a better appreciation of him in the role.
Since Frailty, I have had a lot more respect for him, as an actor (and director). Because that was an impressive film.

Hudson went down fighting in the end.
Burke was the real coward of Aliens.

Burke was the real coward of Aliens. I had actually forgotten all about Burke.
And then there is Gorman. But he was more of a fuck up than a coward.
The two grave robbing dorks in Return of the living Dead. Their whinning and crying was irratating.
