Day of the Dead Remake in the Works
Source: Variety
May 25, 2005
Millennium Films, Taurus Entertainment and Emmett/Furla Films are developing a remake of George A. Romero's 1985 Day of the Dead, which will be financed and distributed through Millennium, says Variety.
The original film was set in a world overrun by pesky zombies bent on extracting a group of scientists and military personnel who have holed up in an underground bunker.
"Day" was a sequel to Romero's 1968 Night of the Living Dead and 1978 Dawn of the Dead.
Universal Pictures released a remake of "Dawn" last year, which grossed $102 million worldwide. Romero's "Land of the Dead" is set for a June 24 release.

there was a bunch of stuff last year about a movie called "Day of the Dead: Contagion", which doesnt seem to have gone anywhere. Maybe this is different? At any rate, unless they are extremely lucky and/or talented, im sure it will flop.

I doubt that it will flop, judging by the success of the new Dawn. But will it be good? Doubt it.

Should be interesting! it may be more faithful to the original script that George Romero intended.

Contagium got cancelled. Although the special effects looked pretty good to me.
Day should be pretty good in my opinion..i'll see it. Just because Day is my favorite of the Dead series.

I'll see it and buy it just cause it has zombies in it. I'm not surprised to see that a lower studio such as Taurus headding this remake since Day was always looked at as the odd ball of the Night/Dawn/Day trilogy, since it wasn't as inovative as the previous two, and being released around the same time as Return of the Living Dead.In my own oppinon. And you had to have seen this coming since Night and Dawn both had remakes.

I thought Day was pretty underrated and I enjoyed it and the premise, especially all the stuff with Bub the zombie. I'd like to see how they update the film, although it will be tough to find such an awesome subterranean set like that. I saw on the Day DVD special features that the underground location is rented out for office and storage space.

*Correction*
You had to have seen this coming since every movie in Hollywood has been or is being remade.

If it's the same guy that did the Dawn remake then I think it has a chance at being ok at least because I enjoyed the Dawn remake and thought it was a very well made film. On the other hand if it's going to be a completely different crew then I don't know what to expect but I'll see it anyway.

Actually, as I understand it, (and I have the totally wrong information here), Universal has it's own Dawn Of The Dead 2 on the table, and this film (from a differnet company) will be something seperate. And I'm still hearing Contageon might come out on video.

Eh, sounds OK. Nothing special in my mind. I loved Romero's Day of the Dead, so I'm a little disappointed that they're remaking it. I'll still probably see it though.

It's so ridiculous that they are remaking this too. They aren't even remaking them right. Like you can'ts even watch the remakes in order. The way they're remaking them is like they're individual films. Try watching the Night of the Living Dead Remake followed by the Dawn of the Dead remake. It doesn't work. I bet they'll even start the movie where nothing has happened yet. THEN "Oh no! A running zombie!" THEN!!!!!!! "HOLY SHIT A FLYING ZOMBIE!!!!" Followed by some cameos from BUB maybe?? Then the movie ends.

They need to make a film out of the "Toe Tags" comic book that was written by Romero.
I forsee a remake of the Bad News Bears go to the House of the Dead and are served up Fried Green Tomatoes.

Well im hopeing that it will be a diffrent crew that does it instead of the dawn crew....cuz dawn suck balls.....big hairy skin flacky balls.
I dont even see why this has to be re-made. The original fim is only 20 years old. Crist on a craker. Damn Hollywood sucks balls.I can see James Woods playing the character of Rhodes.

I gave the Dawn of the Dead Remake a chance. The thought it was OK, not great. What ruined it for me was the zombie baby. I thought that THAT was ridiculous. The other thing that ruined it for me was the title Dawn of the Dead. All they had to do was give it a different title. But NNNNOOOO it had to be a remake of a classic. Besides the mall it was completly different. They could of easily given it a different title.

First of all, liking zombies is one thing, buying or seeing a movie just because it has zombies in it, no matter how bad it is is another thing entirely. I for one am tired of the remakes. And it's people like you who make dumb ass statements like"It'll probably suck, but I'll see it anyway" that force the rest of the sensible folks to lash out in anger. Secondly, I was not trying to sound tough. More like sensible. And I stand by what i said. It's real fucking wise to support movies you believe will suck just because zombies are in it. What sense does that make?

THESE MOVIES ARE ALL ALIKE EXCEPT WHEN I SEE THIS COMERCIAL I TURN MY HEAD, BUT I DID THAT WITH THE LAST REMAKE AND IT ENDED UP BEING VERY DISAPPOINTING. MAYBE I'LL GIVE THIS ONE A CHANCE.

If they're going to remake Day of the Dead, the least they could do is use Romero's original, more ambitious and epic script.
And I really like the idea of a sequel to the Dawn of the Dead remake, independant of the Day of the Dead remake (ow, I just went cross-eyed). I mean, all they had to do was give Dawn a different name and there'd be no complaint from purists. It was stylish, marginally smarted and bloodier than Resident Evil or House of the Dead. As purely an action movie with zombies, it was really good, but as a remake of the original Dawn... ugh, it was brutally awful. No subtext, flat characters, lame story... Even so, I'd love to see a sequel to it done with the same style and sensibilities.
