Will this sequel be forced or could we have another shocker on our hands? Only time will tell... Huge casting news as Lions Gate Films' Saw 2, the sequel to last years smash hit, is ready to begin production in Toronto, Canada this month. Whether its October 28th date will still stick is yet to be seen. Darren Bousman Directs the script written by Leigh Whannell (Adam in Saw) and himself. Read on for the full story...
Variety reports:
Production began this week in Toronto on "Saw 2," the sequel to the hugely successful horror thriller "Saw."
Pic stars Donnie Wahlberg, Franky G., Glenn Plummer, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Beverley Mitchell and Eric Knudsen, with Shawnee Smith, Dina Meyer and Tobin Bell returning from the original.
Twisted Pictures, the genre production arm of Evolution Entertainment, and Lions Gate Films are producing the film, skedded for nationwide release on Halloween. Lions Gate Films Intl. will be presenting the pic to international buyers for the first time in Cannes.
"Saw 2" is written by Leigh Whannel and Darren Lynn Bousman, who also is making his feature directorial debut.
Twisted Pictures' Gregg Hoffman, Oren Koules and Mark Burg are producing, as they did on the original. James Wan and Whannel, the director and writer/co-star of the original, are executive producers.

I guess it could work, since the guy never got caught...but it wouldn't have much surprise, since we know who's doing it. I don't know, I think Saw was over-hyped.

Well Saw sucked the big monkey, and Saw 2 the Killer has allready been captured. Its just the same old garbage. Except with more ppl being in a house having to kill eachother.

Weird twist, whoever wrote it obviously thought the first twist wasn't good enough...
I thought the ending was a lil' bit lame.

Ok, the ending was alright. Alright. But come ON...the acting. THE ACTING! The guy looked like Will Ferrel at the end, talking to his wife. I could pick a hobo off the streets of New York to act better than he did. The other guy sucked too. And from the commercial I expected this grizzly, super-gory, disgusting and horrifying film. Instead I got a mystery-thriller, at most. Not very good in the first place. But another one? WKE UP AND MAKE SOME GODDAMN NEW MOVIES, HOLLYWOOD!

I liked parts of the movie, but there seemed to be a few plot holes and the ending wasn't what I expected. But didn't seem to make a lot of sense. Maybe it was just me, but it didn't seem to add up. I liked the claustrophobic feel of some of it. But the acting was kind of over the top or sometimes just outright bad. I usually like Cary Elwes but he was almost painful to watch at times.

Well, I have never actually felt I was going to die because of a case of bad acting.
But when I was watching The Last Sign I came dangerously close to hurling heavy objects in the direction of the screen.

I loved SAW, thought it was one of the best films to come to the cinema that year, but thats just my opinion. I really didnt expect that twist and it really did shock me. I also loved some of the camera techniques and really feeling their fear, especially with the girl in that, what was it called "a reverse bear trap" or something?
But I doubt a sequel would be any good. It wouldn't have any suprises or nothing new. They should just leave it.

Heres to hoping for a good Saw 2 and more horror films being released that are like Saw and NOT like House of Wax. That's what we need damnit.
But yeah I really enjoyed seeing Saw in theaters, decent acting(although Glover was pretty painful to watch), great gore, awesome story, good cinematography, creepy music, scary villain, and best of all a shocker ending that was the absolute last thing I was expecting.
Great flick. Are the same guys behind the first going to be working on Saw 2?

I hate to say this- and it goes against everything I predicted- but I liked House of Wax better than Saw. I don't know, it was a remake not even close to touching the original, but at some very short moments I felt the joy I get from watching old slashers like Friday the 13th and Halloween. I just didn't get anything out of Saw. And,I don't know how many times I have to say this, but the acting along with the cinemotography was just simply awful and extremely rushed.

Are you guys insane? I'm not meaning to disrespect you guys but House of Wax was undoubtedly the worst movie I've seen in the last five years except for maybe Blair Witch 2. Yes there were some enjoyable kill scenes(as there are in every horror film) but the acting was horrendous, the plot was terrible and not like the original(isn't that the point of a remake?), and the villains were terrible. I'm not even going to go into the shitty directing and writing and the dialogue that made me laugh my ass off in the theater.
Worst waste of money on the movies since going to see Darkness Falls.
Saw however, was great. It reminded me very much of Seven. The acting wasn't bad I thought, aside from Danny Glover who was pretty terrible. I thought the cinematography and camera work were excellent though, just because its rushed doesn't mean it can't be good. There were moments in the movie that seemed so slow that it would never go on but they passed quickly enough. And the kills man they were amazing and so creative and disturbing. I especially totally loved the scene where the man is forced to crawl through the barbed wire maze, that was fuckin creepy.
Sorry to rant.

Goddamn, maybe I saw a different version of Saw, but you cannot complain about the acting/cinematography in House of Wax when you're comparing it to Saw. Acting yes was bad in H.O.W. (yet not as bad as Saw), but the cinematography actually wasn't bad in House of Wax, there were some decent shots and angles, and yet you think Saw was shot better, when, I REPEAT, you can see the microphones in at LEAST 2 different scenes. (My cousin says he caught one more later.) That shits BAD, man.

I thought Saw was definatly one of the best horror movies over the 2000's so far, barring 2-3 that were way better. The acting wasnt great, but Ive seen worse, I also thought some of the camera work was cool [Specially the scene with the guy in the room covered with numbers, and him with the candle], and even though I already knew how it would end [some ass told me], it still messed with my head!
However, Im certainly NOT looking forward to a sequel. Sure, Ill see it, but Im not expecting much. It'll just be a run of the mill serial killer flick[Albiet with a cool killer] now that we know who it is. But considering the same guy is writing it, there could be a chance of it being OK....

Don't be a pompous ass and state your opinion as fact man, cause thats wrong. Cinematography is not all about little things like a microphone popping into the picture(Jesus it was made in like two weeks man) but about the overall scenery and mood to each setting, and that is something that Saw did beautifully. The scenes describing how the killers previous victims had died had me biting my nails man, and yes some of the acting was mediocre but there was still some decent acting, way better than a film starring Paris fucking Hilton.
Seriously why the hell would you cast Paris Hilton in a movie? She's not an actress and couldn't act decently if someone had a gun down her throat. The only reason she was in it was because the producers wanted a big name to draw in teenagers to make money off of a piece of shit like House of Wax.
And am I the only one who noticed that the House of Wax remake was completely not a remake? It had almost nothing to do with the Vincet Price classic(still one of the scariest classics) and the only real similiarited were wax.
And just to add one more example of how I believe Saw is easily superior to House of Wax, is that Saw got into theaters in a wide release after starting off as being a really limited release that wasn't going to do much, but because of word of mouth from horror fanatics all over the internet the buzz for it overflowed and it had a wide release. House of Wax got a wide release because it has Paris Hilton in it.

My problem with Saw is that it seemed to try too hard to be something it wasn't. It tried too hard to be shocking. I didn't like the ending because it didn't make all that much sense to me. I think if just a little more attention had been paid to the writing, than maybe it would have been a great film. Because I personally liked the overall look and feel of the film.
I haven't seen House of Wax yet. But the original was a great film. And this is yet another so called "reimagining" rather than a remake which rips off the title but doesn't feel in the least obligated to pay proper respect to the original material. Fine, so be it. I personally never wanted to have to suffer through a film that has Paris Hilton in it (and it makes me cringe hearing her talk about it, give the girl a dictionary or a thesaurus already ).:D I haven't seen it so I can't say which is the superior film. My money would probably be on Saw though. Because at the very least they did try to do something a little special, even if they wanted it to be the next Se7en and failed.

Ok, first off. I'm sick of people bitching about "Well it's ok that they've got some shitty mistakes that should only be in 7th grade home videos, because it was only shot in 2 weeks!" THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO SHOOT IT IN TWO WEEKS, SO MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN SOME FUCKING TIME, EFFORT AND CARE IN MAKING THE DAMN THING. Second: I don't like Paris Hilton either, but a) she wasnt the star, she got a total of probably a half hour of screen time and b) when she died it was way better than anything in Saw. Saw, like Jenna said, tried WAY to hard. The commercials all set it up to be "the scariest, goriest, most gruesome movie...ever!" It wasn't. So why don't you think before you call me a pompous asshole when I, just like you, was stating my opinion, and that opinion is if a movie can't even be carefully made and edited, than fuck it.
P.S. After seeing both movies, I think Paris Hilton ACTUALLY did a better job acting than that pussy in Saw. I don't even like Paris Hilton, at all, whatsoever. But that guy was completely, absolutely, downright terrible.

Say the end of the first movie was lame if you want but the truth is the movies with great twists well is running dry. You should all be thankful it wasn't the main character's second personality that he wasn't aware of.

It isn't that I felt the ending was lame. It just didn't feel genuine. It wasn't like it evolved as a natural part of the story, it felt like a last minute decision to shock the audience. You could practically hear someone in the background shouting "bet you didn't see that one comin'!" :p I think that it would have truly been great if the writing had been stronger leading into that twist. Am I making sense here?

I thought that Saw was one of those movies that had some great potential, but the execution was very sub par.
I tried to take it seriously, but scenes like the one where Elwes was driving, and the camera work that it included where just extremely silly.
The acting was laughable, especially at the end when it got so melodramatic.
In a matter of a couple of minutes Elwes seemed to be turning into a zombie near the very end.
The "shocking" ending wasn't so shocking. It could have been, but I agree with jenna's assessment.
You can really tell that the movie was rushed. Some of you seem to use the short film schedule as an excuse, but I see that as a fault. If you can't make a good quality product in the alotted amount of time, then extend the time until you have what you need for a good movie.
