I cant think of 10 right now, all of you list your favouites.

1-Michael Myers (Halloween)
2-Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
3-Ginger (Ginger Snaps)
4-Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs) {Marginal horror}
5-Freddy Krueger - (Nightmare on Elm Street)
6-Pinhead - (Hellraiser)
7-Jason Voorhies - (Friday The 13th)
8-Candyman - (Candyman)
9-The Creeper - (Jeepers Creepers)
10-Pumpkinhead - (Pumpkinhead)

Zombie movies are the best though. Too bad they generally don't have 1 main villain. I also left Dracula/vampires off the list because it's so broad.

I did mean horror villians, I cant believe some of the suggestions (Dr Evil, funny for a while, really fucking annoying now).
Bwind 22 and StaggerLee came up with what I was looking for.
You(Urgeok) are right about most villians in horror being stale, but that is the challenge.
I cant believe only one of you said Count Orlock(possibly the coolest character in the history of cinema characters)
When I came to this site, I was surprised at how many people all liked Creeper from Jeepers Creepers, I could never originally find anyone who did'nt think he was crap(I also think he looked crap), The concept of him was good, but he looked very out of place and silly and kind of ruined the film when you found out he was all reptillian, instead of the animal around the area he was in.

i'd rather see dr evil any day - it wasnt a joke .. he's been the most entertaining villian in films in ages.

horror villians - with the exception of Freddie (who wears thin really fast) are completely devoid of personality.

Michael Meyers, JAson ... silent stalkers... and they're favorites why ? because they kill people ?

i think Hannible Lector is a bloated cartoon character .. over ripe with a contrived character that i cant stand (with the exception of Cox in Manhunter)

The Creeper is mentioned a lot because he is the 1st origional creation to come along in a long time.

so i'd say this question devides people into two camps ..

the ones that like the villian because he/she kills people ...

and the ones that like a charasmatic villian.

the people in the second camp are forced to pick outside the horror genre.

I'm in the second camp. We have psychological thrillers and marshmallows if anyone wants to join.

We plan on making s'mores while watching Audition. 10 points to whoever takes a bite and keeps it down during the vomit-eating scene. :D

It would take me a while to narrow down who I think are the "best" b/c someone will inevitably be left out. but here are 10 that I like, in no order:

1. the Alien in, coincidentally, Alien
2. Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction
3. Dr Frankenfurter in Rocky Horror (although not a villain per se, he is definitely an instigator/antagonist)
4. Darth Vader from Star Wars
5. yeah, Count Orlock
6. Stallone's character in Death Race 2000
7. James Earl Jones in Conan
8. David (Kiefer Sutherland) in the Lost Boys
9. Mr T in Rocky 3
10. Ogre in Revenge of the Nerds

like I said, this is just 10 off the top of my head. I like pretty much every villain for one reason or another. it always cracks me up when there is a "villain" character, like someone who is "pure evil". it's just seems really silly to me. like the silent movie guy tying various young maidens to the railroad tracks.

How can you not like smores?!?!

I think Dr. Evil is waaaay more of an inflated cartoon character villain than Hannibal Lecter.

*Alien
*Cady, as portrayed by de-niro
*Krueger
*Horace Pinker (when he was alive, he was more messed up)
*The entity in "phantoms"
*Tony Todd in Final destination...I know he was in candyman, but this guy just seemed so much more sinister.
*Carpenters "thing"
*Michael Keaton in desperate measures...psycho...

*Electro in spider-man 2 :Enter Electro (anyone who saw the intro to the final fight scene in that game will know what I mean...he gets in on this, on that speech alone)

*The Reapers from "firefly"...you never saw them, but what you heard about them was enough...

Oops...sorry 'bout that man...
No, the most you see of the reapers themselves, you've probably seen already, where they were being chased by a just about falling apart ship?
You do, however see an episode that takes place in the aftermath of a reaper attack...you have some messed up shit to look foward to.
Biggest dissapointment? In the last episode, very cool things happen, and a great character comes into the story that you just KNOW could've been cool.
I really hope "serenity" is a continuation rather than a remake.
Apparently the entire cast is signed for two potential sequels, and a series relaunch if ever that should come about...one can hope.

He was supposed to be Lector on the other hand wasn't. I agree with urge on the fact that he is made out to be some kind of superman but I still like the character and the way Hopkins did it even though it is a bit exaggerated.
