The infamous haunting of the Lutz family as they move into the house in Amityville where, one year earlier in 1974, Ronald DeFoe murdered his family with a shotgun.
The DeFoe murders are true fact and are the theme of the second movie (a prequel of sorts), but the supernatural element is added by the Lutzes to spice up the story (and their bank accounts) cue bestselling books and films.

pretty soon there is going to be a remake coming out. Who knows, it could be better than the original. I thought it was boring.

The frist moive was based on a ture story. The ones after that I belived aren't really based upon any thurth at all. Expected the second one may have some turth to it.
FilthyCannibal

the first one was based on what was said to be truth. Nobody knows but the Lutz's.
The second one was pretty close to what really happened before the Lutz's lived there. It was overdone by Hollywood, but the basic story was true.

The first Amityville had a couple of effective moments ...
The pig in the window was a dandy .. but other than that it didnt really have much of an impact while watching it because you got the feeling early on that no one was going to be killed ... and worrying about where/when the characters are going to be killed is where suspense in a horror movie comes from.
A remake might not be a bad idea but again .. for new fans ..
we already know the story and how do you change something to make it more interesting when it is supposedly based on a 'true story'

Now this is a movie that begs to be remade! The new one is gonna show the Defeo killings as well as go into depth as to the supposed indian burial ground the house was built on and other facts of the hauntings. The original movie didnt go in depth about ANYTHING. It was so bland. Things (very few of them) happened and they never even tried to explain them. Not the way you want to approach a "true story." This 2005 Amityville looks to be a winner!

my only worry is ryan rennolds.

The new Fangoria with Samara on the cover does an in depth story on it. One part has the magnetic stick on letters on the fridge forming messages telling someone to kill...creepy! I got lost coming home from jones beach once from a concert and went way out the way and passed the old house on 412 Ocean Drive. Those windows look like eyes dont they?

You can't go by trailers, even the worst of the worst have their moments and that's the moments that are packed into trailers which makes it look good when in actuality it could be a complete and utter peice.

The website got some nice updates: http://www.amityvillehorrormovie.com/
There is also clips of a psychic named Lorraine Warren. Said she had been in a lot of haunted houses and the Amityville house was the most haunted. She also tells some very interesting tails. Check out those clips on the site. Perhaps the house really was haunted? And maybe the Lutz's embellished a little? She is 100% positive sure the house made DeFeo kill his family.
Or it all could be just movie promotion stuff.

so when i was little little my grandma used to tell me all these scary stories about the amityville horro and how my grandpa (who was a state trooper) had to go investigate. so when i got to the appropriate horror appreciating age in my life i tried to watch it and the original was never as scary or cool as my grandma told me about. so i will probably watch this movie when someone pays for me to go see it or i have other possible horro movies to rent.

Personaly I think this looks awsome, and I'm going to see it.
As far as the director being the same as the TCM re-make, I thought that the re-make wasn't horrible but I didn't like it how they played the film like it was a true story, the TCM story is only losely a true story. Which leads me to my next question, does anyone know if Amityville is an actual true story or is the director just playing the true story card again?
I looked at the back of the box on the original Amityville and I couldn't see anything about a true story.
Also could anyone tell me if the other Amityville's are any good b/c the Amityville trilogy that was just released in a box set looks interesting? I can't figure out why the fourth Amityville film is not in that box set.
Thanks

Yah, I agree with the drag-out b.s. of the TCM remake...but Amityville is based on a real "Amityville Horror", and you can check out the DeFeo case here:
www.amityvillehorrortruth.com or www.amityvillehorrormovie.com
I suggest the latter of the two.
As far as the trilogy, it really isn't worth it, but that's my opinon. The first Amityville was the only one I felt was a strong, well-made horror movie. But the reason the fourth isn't on there is because it was a made-for-TV movie. I have never actually seen it, but some movie rentals carry it.
I can't wait...4.15.05

Doesn't look too bad. I personally hate remakes (except for TCM remake) and think the people who remake good movies are a-holes who can't think of anything new and orginal and just remake classics such as this. I'm just afraid they're gonna remake Friday the 13th, Exorcist, NOES, Halloween, and Shining (wait, they already remade that one.) I heard they're remaking hills have eyes & pet sematary. Those bastards!

I have a feeling that "The New" Amityville Horror is going to be screwed up by someone twisting the original storyline. I think the remake is going to be nice and gorey. The original didn't try to push the envelope just tell the story about a family that lived there. Studios are having it out with special effects, trying to make the coolest, cleanest looking cgi movie. Im not sure if I'll go to see it, only because its coming out when all these music festivals are going on but Im sure I'll download it if I can find a good enough copy.

I can't stand most 70s films - they are just too cheesy and outdated. Only a few great classics really hold up.

there are movies that get remade for reasons i can understand ..
- technology is so advanced today that some films can benefit from better FX
- the film is made by a big fan of the origional who wants to pay 'homage'
- the film was poorly made the 1st time and someone saw how to breath some life into it.
- reintroduce a classic to a new generation of movie gowers.
all that said, i dont know what the impetus was for remaking this movie ..
It looks like a pedestrian remake of a pedestrian film...about a 'true story' utterly pointless to me.

I thought that Paris Hilton should have a role in Amityville.
Better translation please!

Uh...bullshit.
If you "got lost" and "drove past the house", shouldn't you be telling us the windows look like eyes instead of asking us? Nice try, jackass.
P.S. Just because we enjoy pointing out the stupid things you say, doesn't mean we're teenieboppers, so why dont you take the OC and 7th Heaven and stick 'em sraight up your ass?
P.P.S. The original Amityville Horror is very good, and the new one (2005) is even better. Go see it, it's worth it, I promise.

How awesome was the remake? It had everything. Way better than the boring original.
It wasn't just a jumpy movie, the story was told better and it was well acted. Ryan Reynolds made a pretty convincing psycho, and his change throughout the movie was great.
It got a little repetitive around the middle, but I think this is definately the best new horror movie next to the Dawn of the Dead remake.
I'm sure some of you disagree, and you can all go to hell. ;)

I don´t think the other thread is about the original? Everyone who has seen the new version post on it.
