usually I don't say anything about people's taste, b/c I almost never agree with people... but at least most of the time I can sorta see where they're coming from. but this! this is insanity! how many horror movies did you say you had? weren't you bragging about how you had like, a thousand horror movies or something? gfnd, they must be a thousand copies of Jack-O or something.

Like I said before no film has to be seen in the theatre although SOME films I guess you could say deserve to be seen in the theatre. I was lucky enough to see Star Wars in the theatre after it's release a number of years ago but I like it all the same on dvd.

I guess Silence of the Lambs will just have to take the 11 spot from now on because I saw Kairo a couple weeks ago and thought it was great, the list wasn't in order but if it were Kairo would be 10th and it's not coming off the list(for now anyway) so for the first time since '94 Silence of the Lambs is no longer on my top ten list.

Which kinda contradicts my all-time movie list but hey nothing's perfect.

bwind22

I don't really consider movies like Se7en or Silence of the Lambs "horror". (Although Hannibal is much closer to what I consier horror then SotL.) There's certainly elements of horror, but there's also elements of suspense/police drama.

Also, I don't count The 6th Sense as horror either. It's a ghost story, but to me it would be a suspense movie first and foremost.

*Sits back and waits for the inevitable barrage of flaming these sorts of statements tend to incur...*

And also, I can't see how The Grudge made anyone's top 10 list, let alone urge's! I thought you knew good horror... (At least I did until I remembered how much you like Phantasm. ;) )

personal preferences i suppose.

i cant find a single thing wrong with the American Grudge ... i thought it was near flawless in excecution - i enjoyed it completely.

I think i'm more amazed by the people who didnt like it than they are at me.

re. phantasm .. i know people either hate it or love it ...
i just always loved it .. great homespun heartfelt performances, a kooky theme never repeated anywhere .. wholey origional (except for the short Dune ripoff)

its crazy - i LOVE crazy.

add The Keep to my list of favorites ...
thats another movie most horror purists pooh-pooh but i dig it.

$7,000? HA!

TV: 6,000
Sound System: 6,000

If you want to get the REALLY good home theater it'll run you at LEAST $14,000

I don't base that off whether they scare me or not. I base it off the content of the movie.

And FYI, imdb.com agrees with me.

The genre for Seven is listed as Thriller, Drama, Mystery, Crime.
The genre for Silence of the Lambs is listed as Thriller, Horror, Crime.
The genre for The Sixth Sense is listed as Drama, Mystery, Thriller.

As you can see, only one of them is even remotely considered horror by the online movie authority and that one is conjuction with the other two genre I assessed it.

They already have 4 genres listed for 7. I don't think 1 vote will get it changed but if you can get it done, go for it. I am too busy basking in my own correctness to care.

Okay your opinion on genre classification officially means nothing to me now. ;) Ghost IS NOT horror, it's a love story!

Ghost Dad?
Casper the Friendly Ghost?

i know they arent horror per say ...
its just how i do it for sake of ease ...

rather than draw the line somewhere .. like Dead Alive .. its a comedy but most people would put it in horror ...
A lot of horror b movies are intentionally campy (therefore comedies) but they still get filed under horror ..

to be perfectly honest - this is already way more thought than i actually ever gave it ..

besides, you dont like Phantasm .. what the hell do you know about anything anyway :p

I certainly agree with the fact that the majority of movies out there do cross genres. I just don't think a ghost in it makes it automatic horror.

*Shakes head at the Phantasm comment.*

Not only did I not like it, I hated it! I didn't really like anything about it (Except the orbs. they were cool.) and then the worst part is that I was hoping the sequels would be campier, so I watched them all and they weren't! They sucked too! Myabe it's the combination of the lame ass hero (Reggie) and the super crappy villain.

I agree that Reggie is lame, but I'm kinda down with the Tall Man (in a psychotic preacher, Poltergeist kind of way). but I'm not a bit Phantasm fan regardless... just b/c it's old doesn't make it a classic.

Shaun of the Dead is a horror/comedy. That's dead on.

Seven and Silence are debatable because there's certainly elements of horror in both, but they both also have more of a psychological cops and robbers thriller feel to them too. I'd call them both Police/Horror/Dramas but that's just me. Definately not straight horror.

Hey, read the whole conversation before trying to tell me I'm wrong. urge was saying that because there was a Ghost in Ghost, he considered it a horror movie. I was saying, "Oh, I suppose you consider these all horror too because they have ghosts in them."

I never said they were 'ghosts' movies, I was just using them as examples of movies with ghosts.

You just came in and basically tried to correct what I was saying without understanding that what I was saying was essentially what you were trying to tell me I should be saying.

if i was running a video store i'd have a huge section called 'DUMB SHIT' that would be 99% of the movies in the store.

And honestly, there are much harder movies to classify than Se7en. Like The Prophecy. Not horror, not action, not comedic, but it's not really a drama, either. Same with Pulp Fiction. I classified it as Action in my collection by virtue of the fact that it fit in that category more than the others

Halloween Resurrection was the supidest one of all! (Yes, even worse than Halloween 3, which gets a bad rap because the story is detached from the rest of the franchise.)

The only good thing about Resurrection was that Michael finally got Laurie Strode. It's also good that we know there will be a sequel because there is no way Busta Rhymes can be the person to ultimately kill Michael Myers.

P.S. Busta Rhymes cant act. If we must have rappers in all of our horror movies nowadays, can we at least try to stick to the ones that can pull it off? (So basically LL and Ice Cube and thats it.)

I've always hated Taxi Driver with a passion. I was forced to watch it and write about it in a college writing class, and I've wanted to rip Deniro's arm off and beat him over the head with it ever since.

Blasphemy? Maybe. Honest? Check.

There's the problem right there. You were forced to watch it. In class, no less. As much as I love Taxi Driver, which is more than any other movie, you gotta watch it of your own volition. I can see how being forced into watching it, in class, and then having to write about it, would turn one off it.

Still, Taxi Driver >>> You

Yes, it is a rather unpleasant experience (odd that statement coming from a horror fan I guess...lol). There doesn't seem to be anyone to root for, so to speak. But it is an excellent film and very well-acted. But I have absolutely no desire to see it again; the only movie that I think that highly of and feel the exact same way about viewing again is Platoon.

I don't think I ever posted my list, so here goes:

Evil Dead 2
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ('74)
A Nightmare On Elm Street
An American Werewolf In London
Hellraiser
The Serpent and the Rainbow
Freaks
Night of the Living Dead ('68)
Tenebre
Videodrome

It changes pretty regularly though....:D

good to see some new slashers on your list...I Know What You Did Last Summer is underrated by most horror fans...its popular to hate it...i just hate the 10 last minutes :p

if i remember correctly, scream was made to be scary, but mostly funny at the same time right?

its been a long time, but i really liked the idea of it too.
