Here's another thing I've been pondering :

does anyone else freak out over going to sleep ...
the fact that you cant remember the moment it happens .. you just lose control and pass out.

i think most people take it for granted but i get thinking about it and it weirds me out ..

its like you die ... for a few hours a night .. and you're reborn every morning..

but i've tried to pinpoint the second when i sleep and its impossible - which makes sense .. but it still freaks me out ...

Have you been puffing the magic dragon?:D

but seriously....

I do find it kinda weird, I've laid down before swearing that I wasn't tired then wake up a few hours later and not know what the hell happened. Another thing I find weird is that you have no idea of what's going on while you're sleeping.

In response to Autin not being aware of what's going on while he sleeps, for some reason I'm quite the opposite. Any change in the room tends to wake me up (unless I'm passed out drunk, then you aren't moving me with a crane.) Doors opening, another person entering the room, lights going on, a toilet flushing down the hall. All of those things wake me right up for some reason. Light sleeper I guess...

Now in response to the topic of the thread... Interesting concept urge. I've never really thought about it so I will probably have to do so before dishing out any sort of intelligent reply.

I will say this though... When I was reading your post, something kept reminding me about deep meditation. Basically you let your body sleep while your mind remains awake. Consciously, you sort of trap yourself at that point between being awake and being asleep. It isn't something that everyone can just do on their firts try though. (I know 2 different techniques though if anyone's interested.) It takes a little practice but once you've got it down it is comparable to being in control of your own dreams.

I think dreams are some of the coolest phenomena on earth. Is anyone able to control their dreams? before they go to sleep or when they are alseep? Are you able to wake yourself up from a dream?

Ummm... That's sort of what I was talking about in the last post.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has woken up in the middle of an erotic dream and tried to go back to sleep quickly so as not to lose your place.

Never seems to work.As far as the topic...I never really thought about it as dying for a bit.

i've read that 3AM is the 'midnight of the soul' when your heart slows down to its slowest... you breath less ... closest to death that you can be ..

sounds like more of a romantic notion ..

as far as your suggestion Bwind .. i think the brain needs to sleep as well as your body so i think i'd rather let loose ... besides i like those wild ass crazy dreams that make you go : where the hell did that come from ?

and as far as dirty dreams go - no one will believe this - but i never have them .. sometimes they are 'voyeuristic' but i'm never having sex in my dreams...

my theory is that i am so preoccupied with it when i'm awake, my brain needs a vacation from it at night .. and sticks with violence and pschycadellia ..

True story:

One time during a dream (i cant remember what it was about) i was walking down a nice suburban street when i realized, this IS a dream....

So i went into one of the yards and started nailing this guy's attractive 19 year old daughter right on the lawn. He started yelling at me and i said "Fuck off, its just a dream, what are you going to do?"

He went into the house. I would have continued, but i woke up and had to pee. And i lost my place :(

I agree with you all, that sleeping and especially dreaming is weird. But what baffles me even more, is what you can experiense when you´re awake.

For example, i´ve got just about 1 mile to work. I´m always cycling, and several times i´ve experienced a total black out in a distance of 200 - 500 meters. It´s like i suddenly just wake up and wonder "How the fuck did i end up here???". Now THAT`s bloody weird!!...

Anybody else experienced something like that?

urgeok

i spend 8 hours a day like that

ChEEbA
03-23-2005, 09:02 AM
Something like that, once...

I think we also do this thing where we uhh...kinda space out during that which is routine? Like your bike route, yeah?

Example - Putting stuff like keys, a watch, and wallet down...I find that quite often I "lose" these things and have to look for them, and I think it's because of the constant exposure to the act of removing these things from my person, and putting them down.

I also kinda tune-out with alot of conversations n stuff...dunno why, maybe completely different reasons...

Dying a little bit every day, in our sleep, in our lives.

I've also thought about how we in perfect unison live and die at every same moment.

We are kind of like undead , zombies.

Dreams have always peeked my coureosity. I had a book many years ago that gave meaning to the dreams you had. I think it was called "1001 Dreams".

Anywhooo, when I was about six years old, I remember having a nightmare (which would have been about 1969!) where I walked into my dark living room and the furniture came alive and chased me down the hallway. Pretty tramatic for a six year old!

My dreams are mostly color and (Now, don't report this to the Dream Police) about 99% sex OR violence (the OR means one or the other, never together). The violent ones always seem to be extremely bloody, and I am always the victorious one.

If i'm really tired, I never remember my dreams, but if it is a normal kinda sleep, I seem to remember quite a bit. Odd?

it is possible to do this with Lucid Dreaming, whereby you train your thoughts and mind into controlling, what messages your brain gives out, whilst in a state of awareness and unconsciousness at similar times.

google it, and find out more.

This is what I was talking about on Page 1.

I smoke too much weed to ever remember my dreams so lucid dreaming is the only way I can do it.

Has anybody ever had a lucid dream that they are completely in control of?

Every once in awhile it happens to me, I guess you could say it's like Nightmare on Elm Street, I'm dreaming but awake at the same time in the sense that I control what I do instead of just watching myself do things.

Every once in awhile it happens to me, I guess you could say it's like Nightmare on Elm Street, I'm dreaming but awake at the same time in the sense that I control what I do instead of just watching myself do things.

I did it once intentionally. I practiced a method of dream control my buddy showed me and after a few different tries, it actually worked. Here's the story...

I laid down in my bed, not tired, but with the sole intention of trying to make this work. I don't remember the exact time but for the sake of this story, it doesn't really matter what time it was. The important time is what elapses from start ti finish...

So I laid down, let's say at about 4 o'clock. I practiced the method I had been shown, putting my physical self to sleep piece by piece with my mind being the last. Before I knew it, I was in my backyard. I ascended the steps to my deck and looked in to see a party full of preppy people I knew in high school. Not waning to hang out with them, I wandered through my backyard to my neighbors house. My neighbor was also having a party, but his consisted of the goth population of my high school. I hung out at that party a bit before deciding to go back to the preppy one to see if had gotten any better. Halfway through my backyard, I took a step that seemed to stop in midair. Then another, which seemed to stop in midair. (If your counting, that's 2 feet off the ground at this point...) I walked a few more steps, seemingly ascending an invisible staircase but as I reached about the height of my house, I began to get scared of the height and the fact that there was nothing beneath me so I tried to go down. No matter which direction I turned and stepped though, I kept going higher and higher. Then, I said to myself... "I can't go down. If I can't go down, then I must be-"

Just then I woke up in my bed and finished the sentence out loud as I was waking up...

"...Dreaming."

I looked at my clock. It was 4:15. The fact that I was aware of my surroundings the entire time and controlling my actions coupled with the fact that it would take the human body more than 15 minutes to fall asleep and get into REM in order to dream naturally, lead me to believe that that was my first successful attempt at lucid dreaming. It was certainly a freaky expreience and I have not done it again since. It was one of those things that I wanted to try out, but then once I did it, I was actually kind of creeped out by it.

I had a recurring nightmare when I was a child about being locked in a day care for the rest of my life. Every night when I went to bed I found myself dreaming I was trapped by a robot man and I could never make it to the door on time, until one night I decided I could controll what happend thanks to some advice from an aunt. Anyhow, I slept one night and dreamed there where hundreds of kids in there with me and we had the robot man surrounded when a little boy gave the robot a baseball card and he let us all go free. I don't think thats what your where talking about though.

By lucid I mean like in Nightmare on Elm Street how they were dreaming but they knew exactly what they were doing and they were controlling their own actions that's what I mean.

I've had a few strange experiences, where I've been told of an event, that is going to happen, but I do not know the exact date. Then I forget about the event, untill during REM one morning, I have a dream about this event, and find out that it ocured either the previous day or that morning I had the dream. It's happend to me a few times.... sort of a preminition.

the most recent example is, I went out to dinner with one of my Brothers and his Wife about a month and a half ago, we chatted about going away on our anual golf trip down to Cornwall with friends. It was going to be arranged for either February or March on a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 3 day tourney...thats around 8 weeks it could happen. We both said that we wern't able to go, me because of a busy work schedule, and he's in the process of buying property. So that was the last we talked of the trip.

Then last Sunday about 6-7 weeks later, I had a dream about the Golf Course in Cornwall, me and my brother and the rest of the friends, all playing a round of golf etc. Yesterday I met my Brother, and whilst in the pub he mentioned that the others had just recently got back from Cornwall, and they had been playing the same days as I'd had that dream.

May seem coincidence, or not that interesting, but this is one of many occasions where this has happened to me... It's kind of like the opposite preminition, where I already know of something thats going to happen, but do not know the exact date... then I'll dream about it many weeks later, only to find out it ocured that very same day.
