i can see this thread going down the tubes fast - but i had to ask :
do you ever close your eyes hard - and watch those weird patterns that swirl around in the dark ?
what the hell is that ? i wish i could control it, or remember it to capture in a drawing but i cant.
they arent even that random .. sometimes that are incredibly complex patterns ..
anyone else ever see this ?

I know what you mean it's like looking into one of those things that you spin and it makes a bunch of patterns...I have no idea what it is though.

does anyone elso notice that if they look really hard, sometimes they can see these blurry squigly lines floating downwards? and when you blink they go back up and start floating down again? turns out that those are tiny peices of hair and dust.
You've all seen "From Beyond".What your seeing are creatures that live in sort of a parallel universe.Sometimes if you squint....you can see them...but....THEN THEY CAN SEE YOU.

I get two things that happen kinda like this.
1- if I close my eyes, within the "darkness" I see various colours in a nondescript "pattern", it kinda covers everything...I'll see different colours, and this is gonna sound NUTS, but I can think about a particular colour, and it will "appear" as part, or all of this pattern.
2- When my eyes are open, sometimes I see what you might think was very small particles of dust/dirt...etc, but I also see something else...for some reason, especially when I'm looking out into a clear blue sky, (I think the colour blue just works as a better "background" so to speak.) but pretty much wherever I look, I see what looks like thousands and thousands of little tiny moving things, they literally cover everything. They look and move somewhat like TINY little particles of electricity but not very bright, each moving indepedantly, in very fast, erratic patterns.
It's strange.

Well, if it's the same thing, you probably can't memorise it because it's constantly changing form and colour, and it's not like you're even viewing it in front of you, it's like you're inside it...
As for wishing you could control it, try focussing your thoughts on a colour, all I can suggest...dunno if it does any more'n that....and then again, it could just work for me...?

I don't know what those patterns are, but I think they are a form of electrical background noise that your eyes send to your brain. I think that background noise is always there, but it's more visible when you close your eyes because you're cutting off a lot of light. When you open your eyes, they get busy processing the stronger incoming light patterns, and those override the background noise. Just a theory.
I see these patterns from time to time, but one time while working out on a heavy punching bag, I threw a left punch and a sharp pain stabbed me in the neck...and all I could see was total blackness with those little swirlly bright spots for around 60 seconds or so.

Kool avatar Cheeba.
I get the same thing when I look at the clear blue sky, I think it may be something to do with the blood running thru the retina but am not sure.
I also have night vision, it is to the point where I can almost see in total darkness, my boy has it also. Light bothers my eyes, and his 2 he runs around and shuts lights off in the house.
I bought a pair of sunglasses that I almost never take off until almost total darkness outside.
Its probably some evolutionary thing, either that or I am slowly becoming a vampyre.:D

Add that to the fact that i have a weird blood disorder .. and who knows ..
