Don't know if this thread has been done yet. But, here goes.
Who is your favorite lead singer from a band or group, or just your favorite singer?
Mine is Layne Staley (RIP) From Alice in Chains
He had a great voice and really knew how to sing.

I agree with you 100%. To bad we lost him so early on. I'm sure he could have given us much more.:(

I snickered when kurt cobain offed himself, but was truly saddened by lane staley's death. No offence to cobain, i just never thought he was as spectacular as others did, and i had a hhard time stomaching a guy who would leave a daughter behind, especially with courtney love as a mother....
Eddie Veder was really good on Ten. After than, i think Pearl Jam sucks in general.
Jim Morrison ruled. As did Marvin Gaye, and Nat King Cole.
Louis Armstrong was a god. My wife had "What a wonderful world" played for my dad at our wedding.

I also thought Bradley (Also RIP), the lead singer of Sublime was totally awesome. It's a shame we are losing all the good singers that could really do something with music.
The most senseless act of death brought upon a legendary and great singer was John Lennon. All he did was sing about peace and love and some stupid ass idiot had to take away what the world needed at the time and that was John Lennons words and songs. Pointless death. But he left behind much great music.

I never liked john lennon. i thought he was a self-absorbed, artsy fartsy asshole whop thought more of himslef than he deserved.
He certainly didnt deserve to die, though, especially so badly.

i thought he was a genius - i didnt care about or truely know what he thought about himself ..
it was sad that he was in the process of making a positive uplifting comeback when he was cut down

i have to say though - that although i was raised on rock and will always love rock .. and respect the skill that screaming does take, etc ..
it doesnt hold a candle to sinatra, nat king cole, armstrong, dean martin, and the king : burt bacharach.

Like I said before. He song songs like "Imagine" and "Give peace a Chance" and he was taken out of this world in the worst way possible. By the violence he sang against. It just was so not fuckuing right. :(

And just like Rebecca Schaeffer (My Sister Sam), he was killed by someone who supposedly thought he was great.
Interesting thing about a lot of celebrity killers, apparently, all of them either had "catcher in the rye" in their possesion or their book collections.

If you ask me I think it was a conspiracy how Bob Marley died. A total conspiracy. Hence again another great singer dying who preached about "Make love not war.":(
On the up side though and of the singers who are still alive. I love the lead singers from Seether and Audioslave. I did like the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots until he joined Velvet Revolver.

Meh, what can i say? In 1oth grade4 i had the most inadequate english teacher in history, and as a result, the next school i went to stuck me in REMEDIAL english.
11th grade was wasted being taught english basics....
fortunately, in 12th grade, my new remedial english teacher actually listened to me when i said i didnt belong (in 11th, he told me i was arrogant to think i didnt belong in his class, even though on all of my progress reports he stated i wrote at a level that exceeded his advanced placement students... cocksucker...) and i was moved into a regular level english class. By that time, i had passed the gradesd where my school required it to be read. Instead, i got Lord of the Flies and Hamlet.

i never read it in school ..
i was always a crazy reader .. eveything i could get my hands on .. which is why i had a tough time in school english .. the stuff we had o read was boring (with the exception of To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Crysalids, etc)
I wouldnt read the book, and then the day the essay was due i'd ask my friend what it was about - and write the essay there in then in class while we were supposed to be doing something with a new book.
he'd get a 60% and i'd get a 65%.
wasnt much motivation for me if i could get a low passing mark without trying.
of course .. i'd do it differently now ...

I love Trent Reznor. Not necesarrily what would classically called a good singing voice, but he isnt bad, and it is perfect for the music he makes.
I am actually a big fan of music where talented vocals arent too terribly important:
Underworld
Chemical Brothers
The Prodigy
Come to think of it, the English make some fucking great music, dont they? :)
How about we give it up for the best white blues singer of all time.....none other than Greg Allman, followed by Warren Haynes.
Dave Matthews has a pleasant voice as does Sting.
It depends on what mood I'm in.

John Lennon is one of our best (The Human race).
Sure John made mistakes with his wife and kids. But he was young and a musician.
No he didn't always write about peace and love  thats what he is best known for.
He wrote songs about society and being a human. Things we can all relate too ( unless your stupid)

It was a question, Jesus, just answer it or don't bother posting on it.
Many threads on here don't have to do with horror and I don't see nobody writing bitching posts about that.

I think the best voice in modern rock today belongs to Chris Cornell.

like 10 years ago maybe. he kind of sucks now. i hate audioslave. i like old sound garden. one day i just woke up and i said, "wow, suddenly music sucks, what used to be good has declined". so i expanded, i started listening to rap. then the greats, and everyone tried to steal their sound. now everything sounds the same. you turn on the radio and we are in a new era of disco, all this top 40 emo pop (wahhhh my girlfriend left me) crap... even chris cornell doesn't carry the emotion he used to.
but somewhere underneath all the crap there are some good original singers. some good lyrics. some good musicians. they're just the ones you don't see on tv. or hear on the radio. they're the ones who don't need a suit to tell them how to dress, what to sing, who to date. the record industry is almost as corrupt as the american legal system.
oh yeah, singers. garm from ulver. hands down, the best musician of the century. if you doubt this we will have to have a battle to the death with maces. on an ice bridge. barefoot.
while people throw thumbtacks at us. and no matter who wins, garm will still be the best. the man is a musical genius. he went from straight black metal to improv ambient... and in everything his voice is amazing. the music is flawless and everything on his record label owns! check out www.jester.no listen to ulver or be the stereotypical american with no taste in music! bwahahahaha
(i,zombie would like to appologize to any short tempered stereotypical americans who really do like all that top 40 crap, but not to peoplle who like emo, I,zombie says "friends don't let ffriends listen to emo... and live". thank you, THAT IS ALL!)

ummm so kitty, try listening to good metal.
i recomend anything on moonfog, candlelight, earache, anti-mosh.... ummmmm check out like good hardcore. old school 315 shit, that inspired people to do their new hardcore, metal, whatever. check out some grindcore. like relapse records is really good. century media is really good. check out "if hope dies" i went to school with those guys and they're real good.

His voice is unique. Too bad his lyrics suck...
The new Audioslave single 'Be yourself' makes me want to break something every time it comes on. (And not in a good, rockin' way either.)
"Just be yourself is all that you can do."
Kind of ironic that he's is preaching about maintaining individuality while singing one of the most generic fucking lyrics I've ever heard in my life.

i didn't take the time to read this entire
thread but i was wondering does anybody
listen or ever heard of drowning pool? the reason
for this is because i was wondering how did the lead
singer die? was it drugs, suicide or freak accident like a
car wreck?

I'm not sure, but I think it was natural cause. Heart attack or something.

I couldn't say for sure, but it could have been drugs, those guys liked to party hard as hell, I met them about six months before Dave Williams died and got stoned as hell with them on their bus in Charlotte NC...
No telling though, guess it will be one of life's little mysteries.
