This movie looks great. Its based on the comic book and it stars Bruce Willis, Brittany Murphy, Elijah Wood so forth and is directed by the man that brought us Desperado, and From Dusk Til Dawn, Robert Rodriguez...
Any thoughts?

Looks awesome...this looks to be unlike any "comic film" we've seen thus far, I haven't read the comic myself, but 'll be along to this movie just to SEE it...looks so weird...the colours looks as though they been done to perfection...

Sin City is one of my favorite comic book series (Along with Preacher). This movie is going to be absolutely awesome because Frank Miller has such a hand in it. It will be violent, dark, gritty and maybe dryly humorous for sure! I can't fucking wait for this one!!!!
I'm more excited for Sin City than I am for Revenge of the Sith (But not more excited than I am for Land of the Dead.)

the movie looks good, damn good actuly.
i have a feeling it is going to have a QT feel to it. from what i have seen from the trailer the cast is all star. as is the crew. i get the felling it will be alot like kill bill, just without all the jumping around. you know, great cast, kill action sequnces, perfect story and plot, and a shit load of death with an ass load of gore.
From how stylized this movie is, even if it turns out to be style over substance I'm in for seeing it. It's got a fantastic look. I had some scary Dick Tracy flashbacks with some of the over top make-up, but I think they way they are using color and light will really help the overall mood stay dark and morbid.

we, the internet, are not the majority. The majority know little to nothing about this movie, or what it's about. "What's that movie about?" doesn't draw the curious viewer like people think. Also, it's done in the same technical style as Sky Captain, and that movie didn't do shit at the box office and had leads that were more bankable than the people in this. Hell, Sky Captain had leads, period. Joe Movie-Goer doesn't even know who the main character of the movie is.
Plus, there's still the competition. This is opening the same week as Beautey Shop. It's a black comedy, and has Queen Latifah as the lead. That'll get it a #1 spot for at least one week. Don't forget, fucking Diary of a Mad Black Woman got #1 for that long. The next week, Sahara and Fever Pitch come out. Fever Pitch is a Romantic Comedy With Popular Leads, and Sahara is basically National Treasure with different actors, both will probably do well, and any major traffic Sin City gets it'll get in the first week, maybe some early in the second, and Amittyville Horror comes out the 15th. By the time the 22nd rolls around and there isn't shit coming out, Sin City's chances of even hitting #1 are gone. And in May, before the 20th, there's a Ridley Scott epic, House of Wax, and a Jet-Li movie coming out. The 20th, Star Wars.
too bad Sin City won't do shit at the box office

I would be willing to place a wager with ya Sam (It will have to be a gentleman's wager since we have no means of collecting on each other) that Sin City buries Beauty Shop at the box office.
You are giving those movies waaaay too much credit.
Queen Latifah + Black comedy = #1 spot? Ha! Beauty Shop won't come anywhere close to seeing the same succes as the Barber Shop movies.
Fever Pitch? Are you fucking kidding me? Jimmy Fallon is a popular lead? How'd Taxi do? And it's not like Drew Barrymore is uncapable of making a bomb. She does it all the time.
Sahara will do alright but it's a family adventure movie. Not exactly the same demographic that would be going to see Sin City.
If you ask me, Sin City doesn't really have any competition at all until Amityville.
So what do say, Sam? Gentlemen's bet? Sin City vs. Beauty Shop. I say Sin City demolishes it at the box office. I'll even give you $1,000,000 head start. (Kinda like a point spread.) Sin City will beat it by more than a million so I'm not worried.

With Week 2, you're looking at the individual movies. It's Sahara AND Fever Pitch. I'm not looking for either one to do all that great, though Sahara will probably hit #1 for a week, but combined they're going to hurt Sin City's numbers.
And I think you're giving the average moviegoer too much credit. I heard the reaction the Beautey Shop trailer got down here. Same with Fever Pitch.
It's not the individual things that are going to hurt Sin City, it's the fact that they're all pretty much hitting it at once. Beauty Shop, Fever Pitch & Sahara, Amittyville, the fact that you can't really tell what the movies about, visual style, lack of discernable lead, et cetera. Its core audience is gonna see the movie the first week it's out. Other than that, it won't do much of anything.
Hope I'm wrong, though.

*Shakes*
My prediction is that it does good opening weekend based on the loyal fans that would see it no matter what but word of mouth will take it from there. (Just like word of mouth will take Beauty Shop straight into the shithouse after opening week.)
That's how I think it'll go. I sure hope it does good because I want to see more of these really awesome comics turned in to movies sometime soon. *Cough* Preacher *Cough*
In your favor though, I tend to be hugely optimistic about things I really want to happen. For instance, I watch every single Vikings game every single season optimistically cheering them on in hopes that 'this might be the year'. If you ask me right now how they will do next year, I will tell you that without a doubt they will win it all (even without Moss), but that's just my optimism talking. This could be one of those same deals...
Anyways, I guess we'll find out soon enough...

Actually bwind I think Sam is right on the Beauty Shop prediction, Diary of A Mad Black Woman took the number one spot for a week and it's lead was an unknown dressed like an old woman so Queen Latifah in a spin off from a very successful film as Barber Shop should be a shoe-in.
Will it be as good or successful as the Barber Shop films? I don't know but the success of those films will bring this one the same at least for the first week.
p.s.

No Ice Cube + No Cedric = No Ticket Sales
Queen Latifah has proven that she can't carry a movie on her own. I'm sure it will do okay, I'm just saying Sin City beats it by a million at least.

I don't see why you keep trying to connect this. Because they are both black comedies with a female lead? That's kind of irrelevant. I could make a movie about an Italian boxer but that doesn't mean it's going to have the appeal of Rocky. They are totally different (I know there are some common similiarities but I mean to say they are both independent of each other. Their success or failure does not hinge on what the other one does at the box office.)
= #1 spot.
Not a chance.

No way man! This is our year!
We are buffing up our defense big time right now and letting go of Moss freed up a ton of room for more salaries. I don't think they are done making moves yet and I'm already liking the way this season's shaping up.
Mark my words.... This will be the year of the Vikings.
P.S. Last year was great. I don't even acare that we didn't win it all. I was just overjoyed that we beat Brett Favre and his fudgePackers sorry asses at Lambeau and knocked them out of the playoffs. A Super Bowl win would have been secondary to that anyways...

ok screw it, Beauty Shop is going to flop(hey that rhymed) anyway...
The Vikings are nothing without Randy Moss, It's been awhile so I'm not completely sure but I think they were 6-1 then Moss got hurt and they sucked as a matter of fact they sucked with him just a whole lot less. I can't even keep track of how many games they would've loss if Moss didn't catch a 70 yard touchdown over 3 guys. Point is they suck.
As for the Packers they're better than the Vikings they were last year and they will be this year. Favre threw two interceptions that Javon Walker and Donald Driver ran the wrong routes on and once again Moss did all the damage, Favre is better than Culpepper-Green is infinately better than any of their backs I could go on but I think you get the picture. You're saying it's their year, I say they wont even make the playoffs.
Packers,Falcons,Eagles,Panthers,Rams.
I ecspect the Saints and Seahawks to have thier acts together next year but if they don't the Vikings may be able to slip in but once again I doubt it.
To everyone else, sorry about all the Football talk It's over now.

I'm sorry, is Ice Cube in Beauty Shop? Because that's the only way that analogy would hold any water. Stallone made Rocky popular so if he made a new one, then it might sell. You're right about that part. But Queen Latifah did not make the Barber Shop movies (She wasn't even really a main character.) So the analogy is flawed.
The fact that it's a spinoff of a popular movie doesn't mean anything. Daredevil opened to $40 million it's first weekend. It's spinoff, Elektra, opened to $12. (Despite the fact that comic book movies were and are wildly popular at the moment kinda like Diary of a Mad Black Woman is right now. Hmm...)
Anyways, we shall see what happens. And when I'm right, I will be back to gloat. ;)
P.S. There is no doubt that Randy Moss is one of the best receivers in the NFL, but he also brings a LOT of negative baggage to a team (And a hefty price tag.) Whether it's walking off the field with time on the clock, walking off the line of scrimmage when the play isn't coming to him, mooning the Green Bay fans (That was awesome!) or pushing a parking cop around Minneapolis with the front of his car, he is a problem. The Vikings are going to be better off without him.
As far as the Packers... Favre's pill-popping ass has another year (two) at best. Ahman Green may have been better than any running backs on the Vikes at the high point of his career, but he is injury prone and aging now. The Vikes have good young backs that would be on the verge of becoming superstars if we could just get rid of our injury prone guy, Michael Bennett. Mewelde Moore is awesome and he's only in his second year. Watching him carry is like watching a young Barry Sanders. And Onterrio Smith is like greased lightning when he gets a hole. The problem is that we have a total dumbass for a coach and he fails to see that he should have got rid of Bennett too while he was cleaning house.
Our defense has already improved by about 100% in the off-season. I'm just looking for us to pick up 1 more receiver this season. (We've got Oakland's #1 draft pick now so maybe we'll draft one.)
P.S. When I say it's "our year", don't take it too seriously. I am a die-hard fan and I say that every year no matter how we are looking.
P.S.S. Hating the Packers is in my blood, don't take offense.
AUSTIN316426808
03-25-2005, 05:35 AM
Hating the Vikings and Bears is in my blood.
Moss is one of the best recievers in the league is an understatment, he is the best and saying the Vikings will be better off without him is like saying the Oilers would've been better off without Gretzky.
I could careless about Favre popping pills, I don't know if he still does it or not but it's really irrelivent he's still Brett Favre there isnt' anybody else in the NFL who analist look at and say his team has a chance simply because they have him(if you don't believe me do the research they've said it every year since '95). I can't believe the nerve you have to tell me about my analogies then actually allow yourself to compare Moore to Barry Sanders that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Mike Tice is a good coach he just makes bad decisions sometimes which all coaches do. Ahman Green is 28 running backs don't start to wear until 30 and Curtis Martin and Emmit Smith proved that not to be altogether true.
Mewelde Moore is like watching Barry Sanders? I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that, sure they have the same style but the same effect I don't think so. LBs have the same style Ray Nitsky did but they aren't as good,QBs have the same style Marino did but they aren't as good get my drift?
p.s.
saying that their D is 100% improved isn't saying alot

bwind22
03-25-2005, 06:04 AM
Moss is THE best when he's trying. Which is only about 50% of the time. The other 50% he stands there like a lazy millionaire that doesn't feel like running a route if the pass isn't going to him. Let me clarify this, I have always liked Randy. He's great for entertainment value, but when you have someone who thinks and acts like they are superior to everyone else on the field, that does not help your team. Randy is all about "me, me, me." (or "him, him, him" as the case me be.) Oakland will find that out soon enough, but he will actually probably fit in pretty well over there with those rowdies.
But you are right. It's hard to say the Vikes will be better off without him. I should have said that I don't think his departure will really hurt us that badly because along with the negative of losing the best active receiver in football, there comes a nice handful of positives. (Which I have already mentioned earlier.) That would have been closer to what I was actually trying to say.
Of course the analysts have been saying it for 10 years. Any time Favre plays on national tv, they are swinging from his jockstrap from kickoff to game's end like he is God's gift to football. That's nothing new. I think John Madden would turn gay in an instant if Favre wanted a piece.
As for Moore to Sanders... Obviously Mewelde Moore isn't anywhere near Barry Sanders in terms of greatness, but Moore's only going into his third year and hasn't really been given a chance to shine. All I was saying is that at this early stage in his career he has already shown very explosive potential. Sizewise, speedwise, and the potential for explosive plays equals me saying he is as exciting to watch as a young Barry Sanders because they are both very exciting to watch. Too bad Moore doesn't get the time. I really think he could be a star. Oh well, I suppose Bennett will get hurt by Week 4 and then he'll get his chance to shine again. So to clarify, Moore is no Sanders in terms of greatness, but he is just as exciting to watch and with proper coaching could be one of the greats.
Mike Tice is the worst coach in the league when it comes to the simplest coaching basics... He throws bad challenges constantly and his clock managment skills are the worst I've seen! I never liked Denny Green because he was strictly a 'by-the-numbers' kind of coach and didn't ever seem to play with his heart. Well, Tice plays with his heart, but he's just a dumbfuck and does it stupidly. We had Tony Dungy in our system and let him get away to keep Denny Green.
P.S. Your Oilers-Gretzky analogy made me laugh.
P.S.S. Are you from Wisconsin or something? What's with your love of the Packers?

I'll make a guess and say Sin City will be better than Batman Begins, it seems more unique... something new.
That and I like me my Jessica Alba.:D

I think the combination of the new "style" of this movie, the fact that the person behind the comic AND a director that makes pretty decent action films are both involved, not to mention a pretty good cast, will make this the better film in the longrun.
That's not to say Batman won't get a bigger audience, or that it won't itself be a great film...but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be slightly more impressed with sin city.
I'm really looking foward to BOTH of them...with these two, and the fantastic 4 movie coming out, seems this is going to be a pretty good year for the ol' comic type films...

I'm not expecting much from that F4 movie though. It looks kinda lame to me so I have low expectations. If it is good, I'll just be pleasently surprised.

In terms of F4 I'm expecting, more or less, a cartoon...something completely and deliberately over the top, this COULD work either way of course...so yeah, I'm not going in expecting to take anything too seriously.
I can only hope it's more worthwhile than the Hulk movie was.

Yeah Hulk was terrible. I wasn't too crazy for Daredevil or The Punisher either. So far the only Marvel comics they've gotten right have been X-Men and Spider-Man.

I'm not saying it'll be a better movie you can't say that until you've seen both of 'em what I'm saying(which also isn't a completely sure thing YET) is that it'll do better at the box office.

Hmmm.... We'll see about that one. I think a good percent of the public (myself included) has a bad taste in their mouth that is still lingering after seeing the last 2 Batman's. I know this one will be better but I wonder if everyone will reailze that or if some have already given up on this franchise...

This one is marketed totally different than the previous 2, or even 3 Batmans. No one-liners, totally noirish/epic (two things that usually don't go well together), and the poster has no faces on it. Though the cast is way better, they haven't listed any of them, they haven't really named any of the villains in the commercials, with only brief glimpses of Scarecrow. The trailers seem more like Batman 1 than any of the ones after it, only a lot moreso.

Christian Bale wasn't in Big Fish, that was Billy Crudup
the cast contains:
Christian Bale
Michael Caine
Liam Neeson
Morgan Freeman
Gary Oldman
Ken Watanabe
Katie Holmes
Cillian Murphy
Tom Wilkinson
Rutger Hauer
Emma Lockhart
I dunno 'bout you, but that's a fucking fantastic cast. Better than George Clooney, Ah-nold, and Chris O'Donnel. Okay, I like Clooney, but he was a shit Batman

Agreed, much better cast, O'Donnel was horrible imo as for Clooney he's a real good acter but Batman wasn't for him. I still don't know why they didn't bring Kilmer back I thought he did a good job.

Sin City got 3.5 out of 4 stars in the USA Today newspaper. Nice.... Now to see how it performs at the box office. Even with a two day head start, I wouldn't be all that surprised to see it beat Beauty Shop.

I thought the film was good.
I agree with the "excellent cinematography" comment. It was good to see a comic book film that remained "comic book-like".
The story lines didn't entirely engross me, however. Perhaps it's because I've never read the graphic novels, and I'm just unfamiliar with the story and/or characters.
Overall, worth a see on the big screen.

Just got home from it. Loved it! Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez did an excellent job adapting it to the big screen but hanging on to the comic book feel.
The only thing I didnt like was Brittany Murphy's lack of acting ability. She was terrible but luckily for us she only had about ten minutes of screen time.
Elijah Wood's character was great! A far cry from Frodo to be sure... I cant believe they put a star as big as him in a role without a single line! Kudos to him for taking the role though.
Watching the movie made me want to go re-read all the comics again.

Sin City #1 at the Box Office and I think that they could possibly have it for two weeks because I will see it atleast two more times since I have seen it 3 already :) and work of mouth should keep it alive!

I'm really glad it's doing so well. Hopefully this means that other really cool dark comics will see the silver screen. (Knowing Hollywood's tendency to bounce on anything that makes money, I'm sure that three or four of them have probably already went in to production since those weekend box office figures came out a couple hours ago.)
I CAN NOT WAIT until they decide to make Preacher into a movie. The storyline for that series is by far the coolest I've ever read!
