Should we torture serious criminals? "Serious" criminals including, but not limited to; multiple murders, mass murderers, and some special cases. These are considered very serious offenses around the world.

Lethal injection is painless, it's just a needle. I almost enjoy having a needle stuck in my arm. (I don't inject anything) Wouldn't you be less likely to commit a serious crime if the punishment was slow and excruciating? I mean I think a killler should get away with the needle, but I think some cases deserve a little suffering...

Doesn't it make sense to torture them to set an example for those who would commit crimes in the future? Do you think it's wrong to torture anybody, even mass murderers?

No. Torturing or executing people won't stop crime. What's needed is rehabilitation and prevention. Capital punishment is bringing us back to the fucking dark ages.

I kind of agree, but I'm talking about people who are sentenced to death by lethal injection for comitting horrible crimes.

They shouldn't be sentenced to death in the first place. I think that saditistic punishment/torture of criminals would would lead to a lot of bad repocusions and create a horribly bloodthirsty society which in turn will create a more vicious and sadistic criminal.

in some cases i'd like to say that the victims family decides the fate of the criminal ... its not realistic - but it sure feels like justice.

example. BTK: one of the survivors was 5 years old when it happened. the doorbell rang and his mother was in the kitchen. He let the man in. The man asked 'wheres your mother'. the little boy went to the bathroom, saw the man tie his mother up and slit her throat.

NOW, this man did NOT end up killing fools, but can u imagine what sort of fucked up life he must have led the past 30 some odd years? he still truly believes it was his fault. its very very sad, really. and even if he DID end up going on a killing spree, u find out something like this... NO its not reason to do it but can u imagine?

Yeh I can see you point in regard to the victim's family because when you have lost someone close to you you'd want to exact justice in the most horrible ways. But it still doesn't make it right and in the end you just sinking down to the level of the criminal.
And yeh there are lot of criminals that probably cannot be rehabilitated but I like to believe that they can be under the right treatment and circumstances but society doesn't have the money to spend on this so it won't happen. Perhaps there should be more preventative measures taken for those at risk of becoming an offender but so many people slip through the gaps and go unoticed and untreated. It's a fucked up world we live in but hopefully steps will be taken to make it a more positive/safer place but I guess that won't happen to till people's attitudes/prejudices change. But yeh what the fuck do I know when it comes down to it and what have I done to change anything.

The death penalty does act as a deterrent to some people. The fear of getting raped is all some others need. Everyone is different, so different punishments have different effects. Does it stop all of them? Obviously not.

Some criminals can be rehibilitated, but anyone who commits a pathological crime cant be. Child molesters, serial killers, serial rapists, people who commit crimes for the sheer thrill of it... Most of those people are sociopaths. The groundwork for being a good person does not exist in those people.

I favor the death penalty for 3 reasons

1) absolutely no chance of re-offending
2) no tax payers money wasted on these assholes
3) closure for the survivors.

People admit to murders the didn't commit all the time. I don't agree with some of the ways they get their information. A confession made while being interrogated shouldn't be worth anything imo.

I've worked at the Indiana Dept of Correction for over 18 years. I know you will all think I'm biased, but nothing works! You have a few who do turn their lives around, but they are very few, and very far between...and I'm talking about all degrees and types of crimes. As a Lieutenant, I've never worked the Death Squad, but I have worked security at an execution. The executin itself may be painless, (injection) but the time leading up to the actual execution is anything but painless. I still support capital punishment though.

Someone mentioned atrocities committed in Iraq. From what has been learned, most of these acts/torture were done as a means to ascertain information/intelligence, not necessarily on persons who had committed a crime. I do believe that some other countries actions or ways of dealing with crime are effective. Caning, cutting off the hand of a thief, castration of a sex crime offender, (Done voluntarily in some States already) etc. Obvisouly none of these methods is perfect, but the system we have in place now is not, and does not work!

If someone is found guilty of rape, cut off their balls. They won't do it again. It's not torture, it's prevention.

If some commits multiple or mass murder, fuck yeah. Make them suffer. But I think that the families of the victims (aka those most hurt by this individuals disregard for human life.) should have a hand in it. Whether it be them deciding on what type of suffereing to inflict or actually inflicting the suffering upon the murderer himself. It is fair and just.

I know if some fuck killed someone I cared about, I would be more than willing to inflict approriate punishment upon them and if the courts backed me up, then thats all the better.

The first thing you will think before pulling out in front of or cutting someone off in traffic will be, they have a gun. You will think, my hamburger is not really that bad, a little onion never hurt anybody, I can just scrape it off, and they have a gun. The police already treat most people as if they have one, so why not oblige. Of course for the ones, who insist on abstaining they will be placed in camps/homes, for their own safety of course, which will be guarded by people with guns.
