This is some weird news:
Tarantino Boards New Friday the 13th Movie?
Source: IGN Filmforce
March 7, 2005
IGN Filmforce is reporting that "Kill Bill" helmer Quentin Tarantino is in talks to write and direct The Ultimate Jason Voorhees, a new "Friday the 13th" movie at New Line Cinema.
While Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash never came together, this new project will be a co-venture between New Line and Paramount Pictures. The site adds that the movie is on the fast-track and could get underway as early as this year.
A rep at William Morris Agency told the site that Tarantino has "not yet" been offered the job, however.

So, Ain't It Cool News is reporting that there's a rumor going around the Hollywood horror community about Quentin Tarantino wanting to write and direct some kind of Friday the 13th movie. I doubt it would be a sequel as much as a remake. That, of course, rides on whether there's an ounce of truth to this rumor.

It could work well but knowing Tarantino's style it would end up somewhere along the lines of Scarey Move/Scream. He'd just cram it with "has-already-been-done-1000000-times" jokes about the genre.

Taranitino can make good movies, but I don't know how well he'd be at making good horror movies. There was a decent amount of blood in Kill Bill and there were some interesting parts of Pulp Ficition, though I don't think it's enough to make a decnet horror flic.

"The one with 'Bad Motherfucker' on it."
Tarantino was involved with a horror flick: From Dusk 'Til Dawn. And it sucked.

he has a talent for capturing the origional flavor of things .. he has a great eye.
He'd be able to reproduce the same atmosphere as the 1st one but with a bit of tongue in cheek....
i think he'd do a great job...
I like Tarantino and I think he can do a great job. He will definetly make a much more interesting plot than the past few jason movies. It will be much more an improvement compared to Freddy vs Jason and Jason X.

What?! From Dusk Till Dawn and Freddy vs. Jason are fucking classics . Tarantino probably would do a great job in some ways but what's the point? The whole tongue in cheek shit was done with Scream. I think he'd be better off making a good original slasher instead of retreading old ground.

I just heard about this today from another source and I'm now hearing that it could be either a remake of a Jason movie or an addition to the series that would ignor Freddy vs. Jason and Jason X.
First off, a remake, we don't need it, the Jason series is still going techniclly because Freddy vs. Jason is like another instalment to both Nightmare and Friday series.
Second, why go a direction that would ignor events that have taken place. It would not be that hard to pick-up at the end of Freddy vs. Jason and put Jason back at Crystal Lake and make a movie that would explain the beginning of Jason X.
Personaly, I don't care much for Tarantino's films.

This dosen't sound like a good idea. I can't imagine a Jason movie where everyone stands around discussing thing for most of the run time.
Maybe they'll ask John Woo next and Jason can go after people in slow motion with two .45s.

you all forgot tom savini's roll in dusk till dawn and his cock revolver. Tarantino has made some gory films anyhow and he has a really good eye for color and shadow. I feel he'll really be able to bring out the desperation in the characters/victums. But opinions are like ass holes.

From what I understand this new movie is going to be along the lines of having comic characters or some other horror serial killers in it. my mom works for a payroll office that does the payroll for movies and this is what she head from people she works with.
I only hope that QT decides not to go that route for Jason vs other horror characters or comic characters. Although Jason vs Myers would be interesting.
90 minutes of the two killers just looking at each other.

Well I didnt take the time to read this whole thread but I'm going to throw my two cents in anyways. Forgive me if I am repeating stuff that's already been said...
I am stoked if this all actually goes through. QT is an awesome director that could spark some life back into a series that was once pretty sweet, but has since kind of fallen off... (Jason X is good for a few laughs and that's about it.) QT could make this series kick ass again! And quite possibly even respark a lot of public interest in the slasher genre as a whole. (That means we would get a whole slew of new slasher films. Some would inevitably suck, but who knows? Maybe the next Halloween is right around the corner and a successful QT Friday the 13th could be just what it needs to get off the ground and into production.
That's my take.
I'm not huge of fan everything QT has done, but he does do violence well and this franchise needs that back. Over the sequels it has evolved into cartoon violence and the scares have dwindled. I think he can bring back the frights that we came to expect decades ago.

I struggle to anything he's been directly a part of (And not just lent his name to for production) anything less than awesome.
Reservoir Dogs
True Romance
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill
Not to mention, From Dusk Til Dawn and 4 Rooms.

Loved Reservoir Dogs and True Romance(but this was written by QT, not directed by him , so technically it is a "Tony Scott film"), thought Pulp Fiction was entirely overrated, never managed to sit through all of Jackie Brown or any of Kill Bill. From Dusk Til Dawn was sort of two movies. It started out as one movie and ended as another, but I'm not against that per say. Parts of it were totally unecessary. 4 Rooms was one of the most underrated (a lot of people have never even heard of it) movies. Funny as hell.
What specifically didn't I like about Pulp Fiction of Jackie Brown? I couldn't really say. They just did nothing for me. I wasn't all that entertained.

No doubt the surreal violence in True Romance was written in by QT. That movie just had a great "indie meets hollywood" feel to it as did Reservoir Dogs. High Production values with indie filmmaker risk taking. To me Jackie Brown lacked that (at least what I saw of it. Maybe I should give it another shot) and Pulp's edgy scenes had that bad "weird for the sake of weird" vibe to them, but I do love when they are cleaning the car.

According to Empire Online last weeks rumor of Quentin Tarantino directing the next Friday the 13th film were nothing but a load of crap.
When asked about what was up with the film Tarantino replied:
"What’s happening with Friday The 13th? Nothing at all! It’s a complete lie. I like Jason and everything, but I’ve no intention of directing a movie! New Line talked to me about it, but it was a complete fabrication, that article. I would love to do a horror film. I’m just saying it’s not going to be Friday The 13th…

Tarantino Says Friday the 13th Reports False
Source: Empire Online
March 14, 2005
It was reported widely that "Kill Bill" series helmer Quentin Tarantino would be directing The Ultimate Jason Voorhees Movie, a new "Friday the 13th" movie at New Line Cinema. Tarantino, however, has now set the record straight.
"What's happening with Friday the 13th? Nothing at all! It's a complete lie," he tells Empire Online. "I like Jason and everything, but I've no intention of directing a movie! New Line talked to me about it, but it was a complete fabrication, that article. I would love to do a horror film. I'm just saying it's not going to be Friday The 13th..."
With that cleared up, he says that he's still eyeing Inglorious Bastards, about a platoon of World War II soldiers trapped behind enemy lines.
"My next film is probably going to be Inglorious Bastards, yeah. I've written scenes. I've written a lot of it but now I have to sit down and start putting it together in a script that I can start shooting. And that's a different thing."

the QT slasher would probibly be a mix of freddy and DR. lecture.
basicly a sick fuck who is smart and tants his victoms. also his killing would be original and imaginative.
now for the fucks who were arguing about freddy vs. jason is part of the franchise or a whole new intitey. in truth it is both. the versus is a whole new idea. yet it is part of the nightmare franchise and only that franchise. jason was only featured like a guest. so it is a jason movie and not a friday movie. friday 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, x, and versus are jason films meaning that jason is the main killer. as for friday the 13th movies there are as follow, friday 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7. the are friday movies because they the place at cristal lake and on friday the 13th, the others dont count as friday flicks.
now the reason versus is a freddy film is as follow.
1. it takes place on elm street in springwood il.
2. it follows the nightmare story line.
some may consider it a jason film to because it ends at cristal lake. this is true but since it wasnt friday the 13th it isnt a friday film. still most consider it a freddy film because it takes place mostly in springwood and the dream world
