Okay, i have lived in New England for the ladt (god.....) almost 13 yearsm, so needless to say, i have managed to forget a lot of what i had learned about the world from travelling as a kid. so here are some questions for the non americans and non new englanders in the forum:

From Australia:
Doe sit bug you if someone from another country calls you an "Aussie"?
Do you ever actually use the term "Down under"?
Doe sit bother you that America thinks everyone in your country is a clone of Steve Irwin or Crocodile Dundee? Or do you even care what we think?
Nature chasnnels would have us believe that Australia is swarming with snakes and spiders that will kill you in minutes. Are Funnel webs, redbacks, sea wasps, blue ringed octopuses and all those wonderful snakes really THAT big a problem?

From the UK:
Is being referred to as a "Brit" offensive?
Have you ever referred to America as "The Colonies"?
How do you feel about the idea of a monarchy?
Would you say people over there generally see Americans as ignorant?
Does it drive you nuts that Americans get self-righteous about our use of your language?
Why is it that English people are always portrayed as hating the french?

From Canada:
Do you ever feel as if you are in competition with America over anything?
Do you really like fries with Gravy?
Does it make you mad if an american snickers at your national animal being the beaver?
have you ever been mistaken for an american by someone from another country? If so, did it offend you?
Does it bother you that Americans who dont want to server their country think it is okay to run to your to hide out?
have you ever noticed that your pronounciation of words with the "ow" sound tends to be different from ours?

From the South (US):
Do some southerners really think they won the civil war?
If you are one of them, does it piss you off that we think we did?
Is it aggravating that people not from the south sometimes assume that everyone down there is a redneck?
Is it obvious to you when someone not from the south tries to speak with a southern accent?
Do you pronounce pecan "peh-cahn" or "pee-can"?

We stopped caring.

Do you really like fries with Gravy?
You forgot the cheese I think. Poutine is only in Quebec and Ontario.

Does it make you mad if an american snickers at your national animal being the beaver? No, I don't care.

have you ever been mistaken for an american by someone from another country? If so, did it offend you?
Yes, no I don't see how you could tell the difference anyway.

Does it bother you that Americans who dont want to serve their country think it is okay to run to your to hide out?
Nope

have you ever noticed that your pronounciation of words with the "ow" sound tends to be different from ours?

Vod, I live just a few short hours from you and there are cultural differences.
I live in Rhode Island......NO...its not an island.

"I'm gonna pawk the ca in the yaad"should read" I'm going to park the car in the yard."

A grinder is a sandwich.
coffee milk is a common drink here.
NY System hot weiners are also very popular.

Out, About, House.

Most Canadians i have known look at us like our heads are on backwards when we bring it up.

my personal observation is that Canadians say the "ou" sound as a round "o" in certain words, so "about" sounds like "abote", so on. I know, it's weird.

I never would have guessed it before i lived here, nbut New Hmapshire is by far the most backwoods, hickish state i have ever encountered.

Tachii was very close to the mark saying that they are hicks up here. The town i live in has an alarming number of inbreds (not kidding... Seriously...a LOT)

They take the state motto ("LIve free or Die") way to seriously. fo rthe most part people here are very "my way or fuck off" with everything they do. Cut them off driving and they call the cops on you. They cut you off, they treat you like you are retarded for not just letting them in...

they don't think they won they just can't stand that they lost, and it really pisses me off everytime I see the confederate flag. It's stupid to keep flying a flag after you lost a war, it's over get over it. My dad and I took a road trip through Tenn.,North Carolina,Georgia and Miss. and in alot of areas you see flags,t-shirts,bumber stickers ect. that say dumb shit like ''the south will rise again''. All that's telling people is that you wish you would've won and that you don't mind slavery.

yes it is Aggravating that people think we're all rednecks, don't get me wrong there's alot of 'em down here but it's not all of us, the jackasses that wave the confederate flag around qualify as top of the line rednecks though.

Yes it's painfully obvious when somebody tries to speak with a southern accent, after you've heard it all your life from people who you know are southern when you hear it from somebody who's faking it's completely obvious.

as for the last question, yes.

I'm from the boon docks!;) I could care less who won the civil war although I am gald the North did to get rid of all the hostility and shit.

I talk with an accent that I am very proud of.....ain't, ya'll, yonder.

It doesn't piss me off when people assume we are rednecks........what can I say, I'm a redneck woman.

It's funny to me when people try to impersonate a southern accent, just can't be done right.

it's not the athletes' fault, do I think they really need to make 2,7,4 and in one case 16 million dollars a year to play a game? no, but you have to realize that the owners did it to themselves. Hockey had no salary cap and the salaries weren't that high but the owners got greedy and wanted to start signing all good players so they started competing over them, steadily raising their salary until the other team gave up and that's how it started, I guess you could say that the owners created monsters that they can no longer control.

I guess I can see where you're coming from. It just pissed me off because the owners made a final offer which I think was 5 million less than the players wanted. They were soooooo close....

Do you get offended by someone calling you a Yankee?

And here is a question to people from California.

Do you get offended if someone thinks that everyone from Califorinia is either an idiot or a homo?

The only culture issues I really have a problem with are these.

If you move to the United States from another country, IE:
Mexico, Middle East, Asia etc, etc, etc....

1. learn to speak ENGLISH, if you wanna speak your language that's fine but learn to speak ours also...I wouldn't move to your country and not learn the language you speak.

2. Pay your goddamn taxes, I work my ass of and pay my taxes you should have to also.

3. Get fucking auto insurance!!!

ohhh buddy you have no idea !!

in my last job i worked with a team of engineers ..all from mainland china.

they barely spoke english and would speak mandarin in the office constantly.
I could go 3 weeks before anyone would say a damn thing to me.

The asian population in toronto is greater than the 'white' population.

I love the food and some of the culture it brings to the city, but i hate the way thse people segregate themselves. There is no desire to participate as a canadian - instead they create the environment they are used to around them.

Not everyone - but enough to be plainly noticable.

like kpro said .. if i was in Hong Kong or China for work i'd be learning cantonese or mandarin as fast as possible to integrate with the community i'm working in ...

much more rewarding that way..

Are some brits still pissed that Britain lost the revolutionary war?

Asians

1. If you are from Japan are you pissed that the U.S. dropped not one but 2 atomic bombs on Japan?

2. Do you get offended by the generalization that all asians have tiny dicks?

Mexicans

1. Do you get offended by everyone thinking that all Mexicans

Middle Easteners

1. Do you get offended by people thinking that everyone from the middle east is a terrorist?

Yeah, kpro, that is how i have always seen it. I am from everywhere. I was born in california, but i have lived in germany a full 3rd o fmy life (2 different occasions), and lived in washington and indiana.

A big problem i had with a lot of people i met from other countries was that they would insist that in their country you had to do things their way, because it was their culture (and often had no respect for ours). Those same people in the opposite setting would refusde to make any changes, claiming they were holding on to their culture.....

People suck the world over....

Urge, we have a similar issue with the company i work for. There is one particular guy who uses his "inexperience" with english as an excuse to skirt policies. He has been in this country for almost a decade, and actually understands you just fine until you tell him something he doesnt want to hear. Then he gets a really stupid look on his face and his ability to understand english fades away.

But I know what you are talking about with the language thing...

The Mexican popultaion is really huge here in the south, and we have "little mexico" trailer parks and such all over here...And they seperate themselves also...

Back when I used to climb trees for a living I had a few mexicans that worked on my crew as groundmen, and none of them could speak a lick of english, and it could have been dangerous for them also....I mean how in the fuck am I supposed to tell someone that can't understand english they better watch out cause I'm fixing to cut the top out of this 100 foot white oak tree and they better not be in the way or they are gonna get seriously fucked up?

Hey, i learned German when i lived in Germany.

Isnt it interesting that "Politically correctness" has managed to segregate people in this country? Everyone is allowed to do or say what ever they want, because they are different.

You cant say anything bad to or about anyone if they arent a white male. We, on the other hand, are in the line o ffire for everything. "You guys had it too good for too long."

ReallY? We did? Where is my million dollar house and porsche then? If i have to endure the jokes and bullshit, i may as well get the perks that my "White Dude" card affords me.

That being said, racists and skinheads are just pissed off that they really really really want to have sex with mexican/asian/black homosexual jews, but are afraid that they will come off as a little less manly if they admit to it.

whites definately dont hold a monopoly on racism but holy shit we were quite the leaders for a huge part of this worlds short history.

the pendulum has swung the other way and now we dont like it..

Call me a bleeding heart but i cant feel too bad about and descrimination shown towards me ...
not until the day someone throws a net over me .. takes me to the other side of the world and makes me work for free .. only to possibly lynch my ass if i'm ever given my freedom.

i know it was a long time ago by other people .. but the effects are still being felt today ...

Seriously - i dont feel too hard done by ..

LOL no never dropped anything on anyone, but I did watch a buddy of mine cut a huge ass limb on an oak tree the wrong way and it came back and crushed both of his calves...Trust me it wasn't a pretty sight.

Personally I have no problems with anyone of any cultures, I think the difference in cultures makes the world an interesting place, I mean if we were all alike the world would get pretty boring.

LOL my point exactly obviously everyone else loves nascar so much that they are taking away our races from the south to make more dates for races out west and up north...

I mean damn they took away both of the races from Rockingham North Carolina, and another one from Darlington SC to make dates for races at tracks out west and up north, and I used to go to just about every race at both tracks, grrr...

From Australia:

Doe sit bug you if someone from another country calls you an "Aussie"?

- Doe Sit?? HAHA...
Not really...I mean, I think we're the ones that first started using that phrase anyway. "Australian" sounds a little uppity if you ask me. One thing that DOES bother me is the accent in which Americans say it.
Like "ousies" and really pronounce the "au" a little too much, so that they almost say "Orstralia", It's more like
"Ozzy"
And
"Osstralia"...the "au" bit is spoken quickly.
If you were to pronounce it phonetically...

Do you ever actually use the term "Down under"?

- If you're a tourist, that kinda thing seems to appeal, no doubt someone trying to sell you something would lay it on thick.
Here, no, we don't.

Doe sit bother you that America thinks everyone in your country is a clone of Steve Irwin or Crocodile Dundee? Or do you even care what we think?

- It bothers me that nothing is really being done to CORRECT this.
It's all to do with the tourism bit though, nowadays at least...that, and American made "Australian" films that typecast.

Nature chasnnels would have us believe that Australia is swarming with snakes and spiders that will kill you in minutes. Are Funnel webs, redbacks, sea wasps, blue ringed octopuses and all those wonderful snakes really THAT big a problem?

- We DO have a lot of spiders here, yes. Funnel webs are not big in anything but rural areas with plentiful trees. Snakes are in the more "country" areas too.
If you are living in these areas, you grow up learning the precautions eg: check under beds, upturn shoes before you put them on, check under outdoor toilet seats...etc, wear gloves and boots when doing certain types of hands-on work.
They're not much of a problem, if you are bought up in the country, you know these things. The horror stories are mainly to hammer this kind of caution into the heads of little ones, however, these things HAVE happened.
Vaccines are available for most of these things, and most people living in these areas will stock a supply at home/in vehicles.
There are only funnel webs, brown snakes, and red/yellow belly black snakes that are a cause for MAJOR concern, and if they bite you, you will likely die if it's not taken care of.
All of these creatures also inflict notoriously painful stings/bites.
Red backs HAVE killed, but are more of a problem in that they HIDE in places humans dwell...they're quite poisonous, but not nearly as much as the three abovementioned creatures.

Sea wasps can't be that big a thing, as I've never seen one.

I don't know too much about blue ringed octopi...I mean, I know not to touch them as they have a VERY potent and fast acting poison, but incidences of this actually happening are pretty minimal...mainly among small children that have touched them in rock-pools and whatnot, they're quite attractive.

Up towards the north-east (qld) we have a rather dangerous species known as the box jellyfish...aka the portuguese man-o-war in other parts of the world? There's a lot of those up there...I know little of them other than they have insanely long tentacles which can wrap around you and deliver multiple stings. Apparently a lot of people have drowned, as they close your airways.

In urbanised areas, these poisonous species are not a big problem. We have rather large spiders, but they either don't attack and stay outside, or the ones that sometimes venture inside (huntsman) are not very poisonous, and rather scared of confrontation.

Also, just thought I'd throw this in:
Koalas and kangaroos do not roam our streets. We do not keep them as pets. They are unfriendly, smelly creatures that keep to themselves, and are more abundant where we are not.
Koalas are stoned a lot of the time, as eucalyptus leaves contain a chemical that sedates...no, humans don't smoke it or anything, it's poisonous. The koalas have some kinda defense mechanism going on that enables to eat them.
We actually eat kangaroo here, it's quite good, and allegedly has less than 2% body fat - I buy it as my preferred red meat due to this. Another thing, there is also a problemati overabundance of them in certain areas, to the point that certain places actually send out culling squads to exterminate them in a calculated way.
Not nice, but true.

I saw him on "Inside the Actor's Studio" quite a while ago and was very impressed with the kind of human being he is, along with his acting skills. Every interview I've ever seen with co-stars he's had they've all had great things to say about him. And I love the fact that he's crazy about his wife. It's so rare in Hollywood these days.

I hate when people think everybody down here is a voodoo priest.

and I can't stand when people think that you have to show boobs to get beeds(although I don't mind when girls take that route:D ) floats have about 10 people on them who's sole purpose is to throw beeds all you have to do is stand there and catch 'em.
