Saw a clip of this on "Boogeymen: The Killer Compilation". Looks pretty damn good!

From what Ive gathered, it's about a young man posessed by "The Ugly", creatures that force him to kill. Eventually, he confesses and is locked up. Now, Dr.Karen Shoemaker wants to get through to him and starts visiting him in the hospital, and his previous life comes to us in flashbacks.

This is a fantastically dark film one of the better of the late 90s serial killer genre. The Ugly is a very gothic and has a bunch of cool subliminal cut shots. It was made here in New Zealand so maybe that's why I like it so much.... I wish NZ would make more movies like this there hasn't been any decent genre films for years. It really sucks because hepas of the actors have now gone back to Shortland Street (A really fucking terrible soap opera based around a hospital). But yeh definatley check it out its one of the better films to come out of New Zealand.

I enjoyed The Ugly too, though I still can't figure out how it made the cut to be on that Boogeymen comp (which I got for $3 in a used bin, making it almost the best $3 I've ever spent).

the one thing I don't get about the ''Boogeyman'' dvd is why isn't there more characters on it, or maybe they should've took stuff like ''the ugly'' and ''the guardian'' off and added Dr. Phibes,Jack Torrance,Dracula,Hannible Lecter,Ash ect.

I know Ash isn't a ''boogeyman'' but how can you not even mention Evil Dead?

haven't seen the ugly in forever, don't really remember how it goes.

boogymen also had some fairly crappy choices IKWYDLS for example. seems like they just wanted to take up space and make and easy buck

Just clips, plus a pretty good commentary by Robert Englund, and a bit of info on the "Boogeymen"

I loved The Ugly and found it very original although it was basically a serial killer movie. The end twist was very good and the leggy Rebecca Hobbs was excellent as the psychologist (or was she a reporter?). This was a New Zealand movie if im not mistaken and another great movie from there was Dog Soldiers. Now these are horror movies not the corporate teenybopper movies like Cursed and Boogeyman which are like a WB show with a little blood.

supposedly some of the bigger names were left off to go on a sequel dvd, which hasn't come out yet and probably never will since the people who were making these comps (there were several for different genres of movies) quit altogether.

Fangoria said Dog Soldiers was filmed in New Zealand. In the words of Gene Snitsky "Its not my fault!" Plus if you read my statement I said "if im not mistaken" meaning of course that I might in fact be mistaken. Yes I make mistakes too folks. Only God is perfect.

Dog Soldiers, although it was set in Scotland, most of it was filmed in Luxembourg. However a few, second unit, scenes were filmed in the Glen Affric area in Scotland.

and I just received The ugly the other morning. :)

Damn Fango! Some of their details are pretty dodgey at times, I think they just make a lot of their shit up.

I've been reading a bunch of old fangos latley they have some pretty good shit in them. I guess they used to be the only authority and way to get info on horror movies. I haven't read one in ages cause no stores ever stock them over here let alone anything else that would be better.

I guess we will just have to wallow in our childish, moronic ways. if only we had listened to the gospel of Charles Manson, we too could be cool.
