Since I don't want to upset the spamming gods, what are the proper channels one would go through at horror.com if one had an indy film they wanted to promote?

Not the film, but a website is almost done.

Serioulsy though, how does one go about promoting a film on websites like this one without spamming?

If we can't see it, I think it's a waste of time. I don't want an advertisement for an advertisement of a film. Well, what does the website have on it?

I don't think it's possible unless you're a contributing member.

People will hit you up in any forming as a "spammer" for announcing your flick, but it does help to have something at the website for them to see. If it's just a movie poster and a plea for "investors" (most really want donations) forget it, but if you have a cool trailer and some other media, maybe behind the scenes stuff, they might be more forgiving.

Once you pick the appropriate forum, like this one, or in my opinion, Upcoming Movies if you have a release date, then screw those who call you spammer for making a simple announcement. Of course it also helps if you actually contribute to the board in other ways. Help out other members with questions, just participate in general, rather than "look at me, look at me!" and then take off until your next movie is coming.
