Okay, here's the question. This is something I'm really curious about:

What would you all most like to see in horror films today?

I'm not talking about what your favorite movies ARE:

I'm asking, what is Hollywood NOT making that you would LIKE to see?

Your fondest wish!

Your happiest dream!

The most wonderful thing

That makes you SCREAM!

Tell me about it, I wanna know.

something unusual

something with good acting ...

i want to see a horror film with excellent adult actors that know what the fuck they are doing.

(which pretty much eliminates DiNiro who hasnt been in a good horror film since angel heart)

A game where people throw ducks at balloons, and nothing is as it seems....

Anyway, I would love to see a GOOD video game movie, that stays true to the plot of the game.

A GOOD movie based on Dungeons and Dragons (or any other RPG)

A complete year without a remake (nothign against them, i would just like to see 12 months fgo by with some original ideas)

Ben Affleck to trip and break his giant ass-crack chin.

I want to see Al Pacino do a horror movie. I think Devil's Advocate looks like steaming shit, but Im gonna see it sometime just because of Pacino. I think he'd make a great villan in a horror.

the best ones are the guys who you'd never suspect ..

like Gregory Peck in the Omen.
Or all of the old fellas (esp. Astair in Ghost Story - although that movie could have been so much more)

One notable exception was Phantoms - even Peter O'toole coulnt lend credibility to that mess.

still , gimme a Gene HAckman, someone like that ..

I thought he was great in Se7en, the '96 oscars should have been at the very least loaded with nominees for Se7en.

Woody Harelson could've been bumped for Brad Pitt, Armen Mulluer-Stahl could've been bumped for either Morgan Freeman or Kevin Spacey, Secrets and Lies could've been bumped from the best picture category and last but definately not least Andrew Kevin Walker should've been nominated for best screenplay.

Something Original. Not Even Entirely Original, (Like House of 1000 Corpses. Yes, It was heavily influenced by TCSM, but it is still one of my all time fave horror flicks. It had good atmosphere and a decent story line as far as horror goes. It wasn't completely original, but it was very entertaining)

We are in dire need of a new horror icon, someone worthy of spawning a mass of sequels (good sequels at that). Use of unknown actors in a movie in hopes of actually having some good actors/actresses. Hollywood is too wrapped up in getting the big names to appear in hopes of upping the monetary gross of shitty movies, but in the end, they ALL fail to deliver. The influx of new horror movies and remakes is getting sad. They're all rated PG-13 now which equates into a whole lotta made for TV crap. I want to see something rated R or NC-17 or something. That way we know we're getting quality horror entertainment rather than some crappy, we're trying so hard to be scary shit.

I just want good horror I guess. Something that reminds me of the days when horror movies were actually worth watching.

the no name thing only works if the script is worthwhile and the people making the movie give a shit....a fresh face is great....but theres a million faces that are attractive that bring nothing to the table...and for obvious reasons these are the grills hollywood wants us to see...for every steve buscemi...and john c reilly....theres a hundred ryan goslings...

Satisfying ending.

I would really like to see a good movie based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft
 . Many directors tried, but, in my view, no one succeded in re-creating that unique atmosphere which makes each Lovecraft's work a materpiece. It should be weird and old-fashioned, fantastic but also scary and overwheliming... it should be Lovecraft. Am I asking too much ;) ?

I know a lot of HP Lovecraft fans that liked it too. I am just continually disappointed by the movies made from his stories. Dagon (the story) had NOTHING to do with the story of the movie. The movie was a bastardised version of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". Dagon was a suicide note.

Im just tired of them being made with enthusiasm but with no real talent or story-telling ability

Very interesting answers from everybody....taking a step back, I notice a lot of people seem to think that modern horror movies aren't very good, on average, and would like to see them better made...

And a lot of people seem insulted by the trend of stupid "victim" characters--righty so, IMO, because if the majority of the "good guys" are idiots, then the characters the AUDIENCE is supposed to "identify" with are idiots. That of course means that there is a tendency on the part of horror filmmakers (or the studios that fund them) to talk down to, or insult their audience. In other words, many people seem to sense that their favorite genre has a disdain for the very audience that ponies up for the box office. "These people are idiots, let's make some more crap for them so they can buy us swimming pools."

So...smarter movies, smarter characters.

As for myself, I want to see:

"LEPRECHOSITY"

A leprechaun that is a computer-composite of 33 of the most dangerous leprechauns breaks free from the Matrix to seek his pot o' gold. Me pot o' gold, Missssster Anderson, I WANTS ME POT O' GOLD!

Wendigo
02-15-2005, 06:56 AM
Dagon is a movie u can watch, but totally misses the atmosphere of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" :(, one of Lovecraft's masterpieces. It's hard to explain, but HPL works such as "The Shadow..." or the "Colour out of space", or "The Dunwich Horror", has something unique which makes them great! I can't find the same quality in a movie like Dagon.

Re-animator... I can't shoot on this movie, but it's based on a short story that Lovecraft himself didn't like very much, written strictly under commission, episode after episode. I mean... the story isn't bad, but definitely it's not HPL at his best. And so the movie :p ...

There's nothing to do... I'm not satisfied with Gordon's attempts. I agree with Vodstok: he worked with enthusiasm, but something is missing and I'll be waiting 'till someone else "will find it", cause I'm not sure Gordon is fit to direct the movie I've got in mind.
Glad to know I'm not alone in this wait, couse I fear it will be a long, long one ;)

I can't say I feel insulted by "the trend of stupid victim characters" ... maybe because I tend to identify with the killer and not with the victim (LOL, joking :D). Anyway, having smarter victims and, as a consequence, smarter killers and movies would be great sometimes. Even in "Saw", which I consider pretty smart among recent movies, the policemen act like perfet idiots in the moment they could arrest the "killer" . I found that sequence rather disappointing, even if I liked the film ;).
