Watson Roasted Alive At Neighbor's Drunken Party
United Kingdom - TWO drunken idiots were convicted of cooking a neighbor's pet after saying to friends: "Let's make a cat stew".
Terrified Watson struggled to escape from Darren Glover, 24, and David Anders, 17, but was roasted alive in an oven during a party.
The four-year-old black and white cat had come to the door to be fed and they enticed him in, a court heard.
A 15-year-old girl at the party, who can't be named, told Glover to let the cat go but Anders said: "Let's make a cat stew."
Glover and Anders went into the kitchen with Watson under Glover's arm.
The girl then noticed a smell. She said: "I can't describe the smell. I have never smelt anything like it before".
Glover came over laughing and told her: "Don't say anything. I have put the cat in the oven."
The men were later seen laughing outside the house, the magistrates' court in Barnsley, South Yorks, heard.
Neighbours saw a girl in the street clutching the cat shouting, "Look what those bastards have done".
Watson's charred body was found wrapped in a blanket in a shed and the oven had been partly cleaned.
Glover admitted destroying a cat by criminal damage, failing to answer bail and breaching a community service order.
Magistrate Keith Law, sentencing him to four months in jail, said: "This has been an abhorrent act against a defenseless animal."
Anders denied criminal damage and cruelty and will be sentenced later.
Afterwards Watson's devastated owners Jody Porter, 25, and Charlene Coe, 23, told of their horror at the killing. Jody said: "I was in a state of shock. He was like a baby to us."
