That outboard-motor bit was Zombie Holocaust, slasherman.
All three of these cannibal movies are top drawer exploitation, Mothman (there are not enough girls in this forum).
Holocaust is the most serious and effective effort, Ferox is more wreckless and trashy but with some outrageously savage gore (that nob-slicing scene outdoes the one in Deodato's movie - ouch!) and Apocalypse (set mostly in the city rather than the jungle) chugs along nicely with some tasty Gianetto De Rossi makeup effects (he did the gore for likes of Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Beyond, The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue and the recent Switchblade Romance/Haute Tension).
Note that these must all be seen uncut however, and bear in mind the first two here both feature almost unwatchable real animal killings.

ive only ever seen cannibal holocaust but i thought it was great because in watching this movie i had a physical reaction to a one part in it and for that its good in my books:) . but the killing of real animals was a little sick but reasonable in the contex of this movie.

Hmmm - presumably you would draw the line at really killing humans to depict murder in films though?
This distinction between the worth of each species in the name of making art is rather worrying, and thankfully no-one could legally get away with animal slaughter as filmed entertainment today.
Paradoxically, or rather hypocritically on my part, it is the inclusion of these difficult scenes that give spaghetti cannibal movies their edge (and why we talk about them with such intrigue) - and asks the question of what really stirs us inside sometimes.

i think there is more than enough bad taste in these films for people to talk about them - without killing animals .. most of us are aware people arent really getting killed.
of course the discussions will continue and 90% of the people all say the same damn thing: 'i wish they didnt kill the animals'
not very stimulating - or intriguing
and to clarify .. bad taste on its own isnt for me neccessary a bad thing ... it can be fun..
oh, and I wouldnt watch movies where people were really getting killed - and i can deal with animals getting killed if i know its fake.
and i know star wars wasnt really shot in space.

in CH it was a hog, some kind of rat, and the turtel that almost made me turn it off. also i recently rewatched it agian and skipped over the cruelty and i found that the deaths of the people didnt seem as realistic. thats why i think the animal deaths are in it, to make the fake deaths look real.

Star Wars was actually shot in space urgeok, but it was a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
If you begin removing the harsher elements from extremely harsh films, they begin to lose their edge - as someone pointed out above, the undeniably genuine animal killings in Cannibal Holocaust serve to make the casual viewer ponder on the human "deaths" and, together with the real third-world execution footage (deliberately misleadingly described as "fake" in the movie itself), the whole package comes with a punch that makes this film powerful, demanding and unforgettable... whatever your views on its importance in cinematic history, and animal rights.
Does it really matter about how traditionally cute your slaughtered animals are, mothman/aborted?
Is the killing of the (edible?) pig worse than the slicing open of the live, screaming muskrat, or the stabbing and shell-peeling of the giant turtle?
42ndStreetFreak

serve to make the casual viewer ponder on the human "deaths"
No, just the silly viewer.
The best 3 are:
"Cannibal Holocaust"
"Jungle Holocaust"
"Cannobal Apocalypse"
"Ferox" is okay (mostly down to the location shooting, the score and John Morghen's balls-out performance) but is far to slow in bringing in the cannibals, is too padded with New York footage and has some poor FX (like the awful dick chopping scene), that are filmed full on in bright light to show just how much they look like latex.
Something Deodato was wise enough not to do and as such the deaths in "Can Holo" are much more disturbing.
And when it comes to full on, close up gore he betters Lenzi as well, as the butchery sequence in "Jungle Holocaust" is up close but looks 100 times better than anything in "Ferox".
So good in fact Lenzi stole it for his "Eaten Alive".
EXTR3MIST

Morghen's balls-out performance
Or "balls-off" performance!
Mike's dick-slicing gets far more of a reaction in my house than the equivalent in Holocaust and any of the others - if you really want to get anal (with a severed cock? Snigger!) about it, I would put this down to [a] the tight editing of the sequence [b] that sublime "slapping-back" latex attachment and [c] the lack of daft bloodied-stump as in on show in Holocaust (not to mention the rather inappropriate looking stone-knife the cannibal uses in Deodato's film, and oddly greyish skin tone of the unfortunate member).
Why do I find myself talking about penises so much in this forum?

I watched Cannibal Holocaust for the first time just a couple of days ago. I expected it to be a load of crap but Iwas surprised at the quality of the direction, acting and production.Bearing in mind it is now about 25 years old and the version I saw was the recently re-released version that has been re-censored and cut.
However it still remains a very powerful movie with plenty of gore and gruesome scenes. It is also a film with a message and not just a pure exploitation flick. It asks the viewer to think about the way the "civilised" folk behave when they enter the jungle and the way the natives react to them.

HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD/"Virus"/"Zombie Creeping Flesh"
A VERY bad film.
Overlong, plodding, hysterical (and annoying) animal stock footage with appaling characters.
BUT...It uses some Goblin tunes from "Dawn" and "Contamination", has lots of cheesy gore, gross out Mondo footage, breasts, a zombie rat, nasty as hell ending...AND...a SWAT guy in a tutu!!
It's what cheap trash is all about.

I stopped branding cheap exploiters as bad some time ago, seeing as everyone was doing it ("It's so bad... it's good!").
Way I see it now, there is no such thing as a bad film - low production values and inept acting/direction may make for a challenging experience, but surely this is all part of the fun.
Being able to easily suspend the weight of disbelief means films like Zombie Creeping Flesh are more important in my collection than the likes of Schindler's List - this may be down to their obscurity and curiosity, but more likely it's the sheer rawness and naive enthusiasm (save the Itallian producers' shrewd cash-ins on their Hollywood counterparts in the 70's/80's!) that gives these cheap movies a charm and honesty so lacking in "serious/good" Hollywood productions.

oh hell, i cant agree with all of that .. i find that not all of them are showing entheusiasm or any fun or curiosity value at all.
Sure some do - but others are just tedious.
I have no desire to see something painfully acted with bargain basement effects. If there's a hint of cleverness or above grade 6 lever humor - maybe- i've seen a lot of no budget films that were great ... but many more that just couldnt hold my interest...
I'll put together a list of these shitty movies I have ...
I have a bunch and they have worn my tolerance level paper thin.
One of them is The House That Screamed ... i'm not sure who released it - but jesus christ .... films like that - i can't appreciate anything that went into it - even knowing as much as i do about the process of making films and how difficult it can be.
Lets face it .. a lot of these are just attrocious cash grabs ...
I can sit and watch a Schindlers list and feel a sense of wonder - be in awe of the performances if nothing else ..
but these back yard films .. i find more often than not a chore, rather than a challange.

Well it may be fun, but it's still bad.
The perfect example is if you compare "Nightmare City" to "Hell of the Living Dead".
Your definition far more resembles "City" than "Hell" for me.
"City" may be trashy and cheesy but it's not 'bad'.
"Hell" is bad though.
All the pitfalls "City" avoids "Hell" pretty much falls into.
I still like it though, and also own it . I agree it has an energy and a soul (even a cheap jack soul) not seen in too many Hollywood films as well. But I think there is a difference between good Trash cinema and, although still enjoyable, bad Trash cinema.

Of course all cheap exploiters are not exactly bursting with charm and enthusiasm, but then again neither are commercial, Hollywood films - and when the latter fails to impress at a basic level, I find it easier to resent the motives of fat cat producers than those foreigners knocking out the dodgy violence and casual mysogyny in the 1980's.
Defining "good/bad" and "bad/good" zombie movies might be a laugh, but one supposes it's just horses for courses unless somebody has an ageing, torn document written in the blood of heroes that tells us the real truth.
