Only three? You're kidding, right??? I could probably come up with a list of his ten best (that's just novels; if we're including short stories as well, I'd need at least a Top Thirty), but THREE????

How about the three *worst* books he's written instead? Given that I love nearly all of his work, it's much easier to pick out the few that I really *didn't* like ;). In no particular order, here are my Most Disliked Three:

Dreamcatcher
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
From a Buick 8

Three best.....sheesh! LOL.

Don't take this the wrong way, but why would you post this question and list your own three favorites if you haven't even read one of them??? In your intro post at the Newbie Forum, you stated that Pet Sematary and The Shining are the only horror novels you've ever read. I'm just wondering what possessed you to list Cujo as a favorite when you've never read it? I'm not flaming or anything, just honestly curious.

P.S. Cujo is really good, but definitely not one of King's three best! Just my opinion, of course ;) .

Dreamcatcher! That was the shitty one!

Anyway...........

The Shining
The Deadzone
Night Shift
The Dark Half
Salem's Lot
The Talisman.................really love this one

I really liked mostly all of them, but the ones that were not really so much horror a little less.

You really should try to get hold of Salem's Lot. The book is so much better than both movies!

Love almost all his books (including Dreamcatcher which some seem to hate, but I likes). But to recommend only three books for some to pickup and give King a try:

(1) The Stand - the ultimate struggle of good vs. evil, after almost all of the world has perished from a super-disease.
(2) The Dark Tower series - a mixture of western/sci-fi/horror/
mystery/romance.
(3) Rose Madder - psycho cop beating his wife for years, couple times nearly to death, she finally grows some balls and leaves, the psycho cop husband tracks her down to kill her, some wierd twists near the end (as always).

That's an interesting pick, but a good one. I liked it a lot more than I expected to.

I agree. I almost forgot about that one. Liked the maze ending especially.

I'm a fan of all four short story anthologies, and I thought Salem's Lot was probably his best novel of the ones I've read.

1. Misery. He wrote about the craft of writing, the whole thing was scary(unlike Cujo :p .) I barely got through the axe scene, he described it so well. And I loved reading the story in the story.
2.The Stand - I haven't read it but my brother has and he told me some things.
3. Carrie - i felt so sorry for carrie at the end. It was a good first attempt.
Oh, and my brother would kill you for saying Dream Catcher was one of his worst.

The Stand was the one King book that really stuck with me - an epic tale with a really cool post-apocalyptic world and the best ending (electric hand of GOD!!!) I could hope for.

The Dark Half was, for me, the coolest idea for a book - though it didn't come together.

I actually always prefered King's short stories - Skeleton Crew was passed around my Middle School like some kind of illicit drug.

Yep, I personally think it is one of his best. Certainly one of his creepiest. It is actually one of very few novels that scared me; it kept me up nights. Lol.

i refuse to choose just three..................................
1)Pet Semetary
2)The Green Mile
3)Tommyknockers
4)Needful Things
5)The Shining
6)Graveyard Shift (until the very end)
7)Firestarter
8)Dolores Claireborne
9)The Dark Half
10)The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
11)Rose Red (awesome)
12)Storm Of The Century

First three in order, after that, no particular order. King is my favorite author, so asking me to choose just three is like asking a nymph not to have sex but once a day.
