uh... I'd say The Ring, but I dunno what you consider really scary.

Katelan1089
01-23-2005, 09:41 AM
I actually saw the ring and liked it. I dont really consider it really scary but that movie was just down right creepy in my opinion but that a good suggestion and might actually be perfect to show at the party. Thanxs!

To have a good horror movie party, you need to work up to a climax. I had a firly succesful on a few months back...

To start, an older, not too scary but very enjoybable horror classic : Pit and the Pendulum. Followed up by the 1999 remake of House on Haunted Hill. After that, the oriiginal Dawn of the Dead, and to cap off the night, the original TCM

Not sure if thats what you're looking for, but it worked well for me:cool:

too much quiet dialogue for a party (depending on the average attention span of the guests) I'd go straight for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back ..

Heres another idea for you [I could do a better job if you said how many movies you want]

Start with a nice horror/comedy, Id recomend Creepshow, as it does both horror and comedy very well. Follow it up with the very suspensful, but not too scary Mothman Prophecies. Next up, The Bone Snatcher would make a good, little known choice. And for your Climax, Dog Soldiers is my pick.

Hope that helps!

I am shooting for four movies!

The_Return
01-23-2005, 10:02 AM
Ok, if you have Halloween in mind, try this:

Start out with the all time classic, Psycho. Followed by The Exorcist, then The Shining. Conclude your night with Halloween.

Angra
01-23-2005, 10:03 AM
Or you can just settle with "Salems lot" ī79 (the long version). Thatīs 4 hours spend right there...;)

too common .. try to get something more on the fringe .. make 'em piss their pants - or freak out ...

thats why dead alive is a good one .. or Evil Dead if they havent seen it ... keep the screen awash in blood :)

The_Return
01-23-2005, 10:04 AM
You could do a night of classic Slashers:

Open with the 1st Friday the 13th. Followed by it's inspiration, Halloween. Next up the 1st Nightmare on Elm Street, and finish with the brutal Hellraiser.

Start off with Motel Hell. Keep going with Night of the Living Dead, then either version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Finish with wichever version of TCM you didnt already use.

Commence with Van Helsing. Follow with Underworld, then The Mummy remake. Then on a much more horrorific note, close with Dog Soldiers.

To broaden the tastes of yourself and your guests, why not try a horror through the ages night?

Start out with the Old time Silent movie, Nosferatu (1922). Keep going down the timeline to Night of the Living Dead (1969). Skip a few more years to Halloween (1979), or The Shining (Same year). Finish the night with one of todays best entrys in the genre, Id suggest Jeepers Creepers, Dog Soldiers, or The Bone Snatcher.

2 isn't a remake.

This is what you should watch...

Hellraiser
Un Chien Andalou
Dead Alive
Re-Animator
Evil Dead (save the sequels for another time)

and top it off with............................

The Exorcist 3 (the only film that scared me!)

as you can see I started you off with some fleshy films so that you wouldn't get bored, and toped it off with something scary.

Id personally, to scare up the guests more, do it like so [Feel free to ignore me though;)]

It's a hardcore child porno in which a man kidnaps 3-8 year olds and rapes them for hours on their parents' beds. Then he takes all the rape-juices and makes the kids eat it. It's a pretty fucked up movie. It's got claymation, too.

Your thinking of Bruce Campbell, who was in Escape From NY with Steve Buscemi who was in Reservoir Dogs with Harvey Keitel who was in Mean Streets with Robert Deniro who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon.

Im doing this kind of thing again tomorrow night... no real theme to it, just a bunch of kickass horror movies. Im trying to see if I can stay up the whole night [Surprisingly enough, Ive never tried before], so weather my friends are asleep or not, Ill keep watching more. But heres the lineup so far:

Session 9
Te Abominable Dr. Phibes
The Fly [1986]
The remake of TCM

Then after that, we'll just watch whatever comes to mind [Id like to put on Dog Soldiers, mabey. Or Creepshow]

I like bumping this every few months, it's a fun thread.

Im doing this again tonight, but Im not sure what we'll be watching. Definatly the original Hills Have Eyes...maybe Dagon, or The Thing...Im really not sure, we'll probably just wing it.

I love Pit and the Pendulum, followed by the original The Hills Have Eyes (I thought it was scarier than the remake) and then The Grudge. If you have time, as a "the party is starting to wind down a bit" movie, Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds has always been one of my favorites. Have fun!

Any of the Scream movies are perfect for parties. Fast paced and energetic, with some humor to keep it fun. or if you want actually scary movies i'd go with the original Halloween and Orig. NOES.

Heh, I dont own any of those:p

Been meaning to get Halloween, but I never remember. Scream was good, but I wouldnt buy it unless it was cheap. As for NOES, Im waiting for the boxset to go down in price.

Trivia time: Tippi Hedren (The Birds) was from New Ulm, Minnesota. She is the mother of Melanie Griffith. I will now change my Avatar to her for a short time. :)

I could tell you quite a bit about Tippi Hedren and/or ESPECIALLY Alfred Hitchcock. I've done extensive research on the latter, and I've learned a bit about Tippi in the meantime.

For starters, Tippi HATED Alfred Hitchcock.

P.S. I love your avatar. Great movie. And Tippi is gorgeous.

I'll post here, just in case anyone else cares.

A basic summary of Tippi and Hitchcock's relationship was they absolutely hated eachother.

Hitchcock originally hired Tippi for himself, not to boost 'The Birds' or her career, which had just begun. As you may or may not know, Hitchcock was literally obssessed with the beautiful Grace Kelly, who had worked with him in 'To Catch A Thief', 'Dial "M" For Murder', and 'Rear Window'.

After Grace's third Hitchcock movie, 'Dial "M"', she left America for her husband, who was the prince Monaco, making her a princess.

Around a decade later, Hitchcock spotted Tippi, who was then a model. He immediately thought of his lost Grace; Tippi had a similar effect on him with her beauty. He immediately asked her if she'd like a contract with him (I believe a 7-year contract), and she accepted after thinking it over.

Well, long story-short, they began 'The Birds' and disagreed on everything. She didn't like the way Hitchcock treated his actors. He was very serious and did not guide any of his actors, thinking that they should be able to handle themselves (Hitchcock was notorious for saying "actors are cattle".) He also had a very twisted, and sometimes perverted sense of humor. She didn't like any of this. In a result, they argued, fought, and picked on eachother constantly. The trouble was, Tippi was on a contract with him.

Next, Tippi was in Hitchcock's "Marnie", playing the title charcater. They hated eachother so much by this time that it was rumored that they weren't even talking to eachother. (That rumor turned out to be bullshit, but it wasn't too far off).

Years later, Tippi's daughter, Melanie, told an interviewer:

"Hitchcock was a motherfucker. And you can quote me."

There ya' go, hope I didn't bore you!

The Abominable Dr. Phibes, another one I love. Vincent Price was so awesome, no one has/had a voice like his, and that look he did with his eyes. Delightfully creepy.

One of my all-time favourites...Price is always amazing, but that's one of his best.
