How do you guys cope with stuff?

When something upsetting happens in your life, how do you deal with it? Be it something relativly minor, like getting dumped or something, or be it something major, like having loved ones die?

Just wondering.


Btw, I go into denial usually. Pretend it doesnt bother me. Hey, it works, I always stay friends with my ex's, so I guess it works...

I stop doing stuff.

I have had a loved one, who was very close to me die, and I was there when it happened.

For the next few years, I was on this earth, but was not living. Weekends would be spent at home alone when friends would be out having fun. I had no desire or energy to socialise with anyone. School became the least of my worries and then after that the same was true with work.

It was something like 5 years later that I realised that 'not living' was not helping anyone and started to make an effort with friends and going out etc.

When the minor things happen I do the same thing, just retreat from everything and everyone for a while - but for nowhere near as long. Just usually for a few days.

I usually listen to music, play guitar, watch movies or play PS2......So really nothing changes for me.
My feelings are dead, I have no remorse......Its a terrible thing:)

deal with it for a bit, do somethign else. every so often gotta deal with it again (like, grieving) but its healthy that way. u oknw, instead of bottlin shit in or resorting to drugs/alcohol/murdering people

My biggest coping methods for troubling times is taking it head on, soaking in the misery, and just flat-out accepting it and understanding it. I have had way too many of these incidents within the last few years, the hardest being a divorce from my partner of 10 years.

The marriage itself only lasted about 2 years...but it was a tough time getting over that because we really didn't have too many problems compared to most married couples. But, everything happens for a reason and I just literally listened to every possible sad song, read old letters from her, looked at pictures...cried when I needed to, and then BAM...it is now all in the past.

So, anyway...I take the same approach with everything bad in my life. I take it on...and knock it the fuck out! I also have a thing I do called "Black Tuesday," partly because I hate Tuesdays. But, I sit in complete darkness in my room, turn on some mood-heavy music, and I draw whatever comes to mind...not being able to see exactly what I'm drawing until I have finished "coping" and turn the lights back on.

This accomplishes some much needed time alone, and some insight into my feelings. Then I assess my mood and try to change things in my life that may be causing some problems.

Damn...I didn't realize I was rambling so much, sorry.

But, good topic.

Well I have never been dumped.. Only ever been with Cheeba.

I have only ever lost one person in my life and that was my dad, who died about 11 years ago. But I never really went through a sad stage with that, I just let it go. My brother helped me with it also, he took me ski-ing shortly after the funeral and because I was pretty young it didn't affect me that badly.

As for coping with things. Well music helps me heaps. I dont care what kinda music just anything. I also have a diary which I can let everything out. Just being on my own helps to. Having heaps of animals is a great thing too. They seem to know that something is up and wanna help ( I know that sounds stupid but I love my animals greatly).

To bring the thread back to its origin of question, I used to drown my sorrows in alcohol and heavy sedating hallucinating narcotics. Now I use meditation........................................ ..or I kick the shit out of my dog, punch my woman in the head or take my 45 out and shoot someone. If I don't go to the bar for several beers when something is bothering me to the point it pisses me off, then I will usually play a first person shooter (PC) like Doom III or Half-life. One of my favorite id Solider of Fortune because it has point of aim damage (ie, you shoot them in the shin w/ a shotgun, you blow their lower leg off). After killin' shit for a while...I feel better.

If it is a major thing or life changing, I'll get a Tattoo. By the time its finished, I feel much better!

In general, when something happens I'll cry alot, and get very depressed...actually...I'm always depressed.

As for death... I've lost one person close to me so far...my grandma...in late 2001. After she died I started having panic attacks in the night, and I couldn't sleep.

With small things like getting dumped or a bad fight with a friend, I get really depressed about it, cry a lot, and stop eating for a few days. It's weird, being really really hungry makes me feel so much better. :confused:

Writing everything down helps me a lot too, but I dont do that often enough.

With bigger things, I act like it's no big deal. When my grandparents died, I never cried, I avoided seeing my dad because then he would cry, and I just went on with my life.

I know this is childish as hell but if it's something minor I play a boxing or wrestling game on ps2 and just beat the living hell outta somebody online.

but if it's something serious like the time i was with my best friend on the planet of 12 years as he got the upper right portion of his body blown off by a 12 gauge I go into cleric mode and just don't feel a thing for however long it takes to get over the situation, I don't eat or sleep much, I don't go out, I don't talk to anybody. i play with my band, i hold free shows at the recreation place,
