Okay, lets just say that iīm looking for new scary Asian horror movies.

I didnīt find "Phone" to be specially good. The last 5-10 minutes were pretty ok.

Was "Into the mirror" better or worse than "Phone", you think?

Well... I thought it was okay, nothing more. Besides, i wouldnīt call "Seven" a horror movie... Maybe thatīs becauce, when i think of a horror movie with a serial killer, itīs always shown from the killers point of view and not the cops. When itīs shown through the cops eyes i find it to be a "thriller" or just a plain "action" movie. But thatīs just my opinion.... ;)

If their making a remake of OLDBOY that will be interesting. I hated remake of Ringu & ain t seen remake of Grudge yet.

I don't think this is the kind of movie you were meaning (it's manga) but "Perfect Blue" is quite a good thriller/horror type movie, IMO at least.

Less horror and more suspense, I'd say "Battle Royale" is definetely worth checking out. It's more action, but the execution of the premise is so twisted and so creepy to imagine being real, that there is a certain 'terror' tinge to it.

Less HORROR???

I think youīre in the wrong place, honey. ;) :D

Iīve seen "Battle Royale". Thought it was very far out, but entertaining.
Okay asian movie, but i prefere the horror genre.

If you like more suspence than horror then watch "Saw". Itīs nothing but.

Peace

Check out two films by Shozin Fukui that just got released by Unearthed Films: Pinnochio 964 and Rubber's Lover. Pure insanity commited to celluloid. Both of these films manage to out weird Tetsuo, if you can believe that.

I did enjoy Phone, by the way. And the previous film Nightmare.

Hmmmm.... I would rather watch "Tetsuo". That one sounds like the most horrific of those 3 mentioned. Is it good?

Some of my favorites are "Audition", "Tetsuo", "The Isle", "Tokyo Fist", "Versus", and "Suicide Club". All definitely worth checking out imho, though Isle isn't Japanes but rather Korean;)

You noticed that i was asking for HORROR movies, right?

Except for "Audition" & "Tetsuo", the titles sounds more like Drama/action movies than creepy horror movies.. :(

Im gonna have to check "Versus" out though. Could be entertaining.

Shutter ....imo very good. as I said in another jap thread, this film follows the other styles of jap horrors, but imo is better than most of the recent ones and on par with the ju-on series.

Face .....btw I've just received Face, so not watched it yet, but got it based on a couple of good reviews.

Yeah, but it's way out there. A lot of people compare it to David Lynch's Eraserhead. It's very hard to describe, but it involves people turning into metal.

you don't have to be a tcm fan...nothing like it.

basic story - elderly woman and a mute female go to stay with relatives (including a disabled son) but are they who they say they are?

just watched it earlier, it's ok, if you like scares I wouldn't get your hopes up. Its a mixture of the typical creepy girl with long hair and a killer guy. I'd rent it not buy it.

Very true....it was scary after the first 3 or 4 times but enough is enough. I guess its much like Hollywood...they find something that sells and its OVERKILL time.

I'm still waiting for "Shutter" in the mail.I'm hoping it comes sans creepy kid & long black hair.

they certainly seem to have the same elements ...
but they manage to use them with great effect (except Phone, which i didnt like at all .. again with the hair in the drain ?)

I think the japanese ghost film is so much like the italian giallo films its crazy ... only the japanese being supernatural where the italians - its a slasher ..

they are both presented as mysteries .. it has to be solved before there is closure.
It's always traced back to somethingt the lead character - potential victim was involved in ..

the japanese substituted shocks for the italian gore but they still follow a lot of the same 'rules'

About "A chinese ghost tale" i read on IMDB that it shoukd be a blend of martial arts and horror.... Yeah right. Iīll bet itīll be just the first... But what the fuck, it sounded interesting. Should be visually beautiful. So iīm hoping for some kind of positive result.

Maybe theyīve even translated it in some kind of readable english. I have my fingers crossed.

"A chinese ghost story"

Damn, what a stupid movie.

The acting was theatrical and bad. The horror was nonexisting. The martial art scenes were sword fighting scenes (No fists or kicks). Oh, and of course the fighters could jump 50 feets in the air. God, i hate that. The effects were fairly good at times but mostly pretty lousy, like the skelletons. And the story was just plain crappy.

Somewhere iīve read that it should be visually beautiful. Well, you could easily see that it wasnīt a B-movie, but when i think visually beautiful i think "Hero" and it didnīt reach that one to its shoelaces.

WHO THE FUCK RECOMMENDED THIS STINKER? Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!
