If Sam Raimi has any sense he will not remake the evil dead. How can you recreate the sheer rawness and terror of the original.Surely Sam can come up with a new idea if he really wants to make another horror film.If not then please leave the evil dead alone.

Lack of inspiration and a need for more of this I guess.

I really am torn over this. I've seen some remakes that were great (The Thing, The Fly,Dawn Of The Dead) and some that were truly god awful ( King Kong, american Godzilla,The Haunting.. etc) The fact that Rami and (i believe) Bruce Campbell are involved is a plus, but I think they should just leave well enough alone, maybe instead make a "Evil Dead 4" instead.

Nothing at all, but remakes make money - sad though it is, every once cool independent film maker has his price.

Agreed, though perhaps John Carpenter can be excused for his remake of The Thing.

NOTE:Not an ED remake...a hole new movie..

actually the Evil Dead was in itself a remake of his student film ..
(deep in the woods or something like that)
And like i sad - Evil Dead 2 was in many ways a remake of Evil Dead .. as it didnt aknowledge the 1st one as a predecessor..it just took off in another direction ....

Either way it´s a remake or a sequal, Sam CAN`T make a new Evil Dead without Bruce Campbell.

My own advice is to leave the Evil Dead well alone and to move onto something new...a new horror movie, perhaps.

Id like to see him and george lucas and quentin tarantino all get in a plane accident and die that way all the classic films can stay alive and not worry about getting re-edited or remade

eeehhh..... well, I don't want him to do die. But I wish him harm.
I hope he loses all his money and has to beg for money on a corner. than I can laugh at him and than spit in his face and say "This is for the new star wars assface!"

I think he should get to work on Spiderman 3. That'll make hell of alot more money than an ED remake, he wouldnt have to *god forbid* think up a new idea, either. Money in the bank, so to speak.

i'd be just as happy if no one .. NO ONE went to see the last installment.
Not one soul in a single theatre.
That would be so cool.

I've mentioned this in an old thread, but there is ONE guy that I think could assume the mantle of a younger looking Ash for this remake, that's if it happens...
Nicholas Brendon, yknow Xander from Buffy?
He's younger, kinda got the underdog thing goin' on, and similar mannerisms in the stuff I've seen him in.
I mean face it, unless they do some marvelous digital work, Campbell would NOT be able to pull it off...sure, for any potential sequels (which I'm sure everyone would prefer to see) it could only be him, but for a remake of the first? I'm sure they'll go with someone younger.
As for Sean William Scott?? AS Ash, no fucking way....although, I could see him as some kind of comedy releif, which, like it or not, WILL probably happen with this film...
Assuming this remake DOES happen, I'd personally like to see a reinvention (kinda like the new dawn of the dead was), I find the idea of a flat-out remake a little boring to be honest, no matter how slick they could make it look...

If it´s going to be a remake of Evil Dead 2 (wich in my eyes would be plain stupid, as i find it to be one of the best horror movies ever made) then i would like to see Jim Carrey as Ash. That would be hysterical. :D

well thats kind of what he did in #2 .. he revamped the whole thing like #1 never existed .. maybe he'll just do the same thing .. it starts out with the same thing .. kids, cabin, book of the dead .. and then goes haywire with it after that ...

Heres an article from Comingsoon.net:
Rob Tapert on The Evil Dead Remake
Source: Sci Fi Wire
January 26, 2005
Rob Tapert, who runs Ghost House Pictures with "Spider-Man" franchise director Sam Raimi, talked to Sci Fi Wire about producing the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead, which original star Bruce Campbell will also produce.
Tapert said they're going to be careful. "I talk to Bruce Campbell every other day, and he says, 'You should see the message boards and all of the stuff I get saying "Please don't do it!"' So we're certainly going to have to tread carefully."
He added that "as long as we stay true to what was the original model of the first Evil Dead, which was that we want to hurt and punish the audience, then those who love it will be satisfied."
"We mean to bring that out to a whole new generation in something that honors all of the people that loved it and yet gives them a new and thrilling ride that they weren't expecting. That's the challenge, and hopefully if we succeed that's kind of the glory."
Raimi wrote, directed and produced the 1981 film, which tells the tale of a group of friends who go to a cabin in the woods, where they find an unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. One by one, the teens become deadly zombies. With only Ash (Campbell) remaining, it is up to him to survive the night and battle The Evil Dead.
Raimi will not direct the remake, so Ghost House is looking for a helmer to reinvent the franchise before a script is written.
The original film spawned sequels Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.
