Its gonna have alot of the aspects of the game they say, but there is no mention of hell or anything. I had high hopes for this movie, but I think its gonna suck. I even read on IMDB that its gonna be people transformed by a virus:rolleyes: WTF is it gonna be the Resident Evil of the outer space:mad: I dont know what to think. No mention of hell or demons or shit like that. Its gonna blow, what do you all think?
this article is from the dark horizons thread from above:
"A correspondent of Novinky.Cz recently attended the Prague set of "Doom" and reported back a well spring of information in regards to the video game adaptation.
Originally, the $70 million film was supposed to be helmed by Enda McCallion. Later, he was replaced by Andrzej Bartkowiak. Screenwriter Dave Callahan claims "everyone was keen to keep the game's atmosphere", though there are some "minor" changes done to the film's concept: The monsters have nothing to do with hell, the plot is not taking place on Mars and "space marines" are not well "space marines" as their outfits are more like SWAT team members.
The story follows eight marines, teleported into a command centre of a secret base on a remote planet. There, they learn that something strange is happening and soon monsters start to appear. The monsters aren't from hell, but rather people mutated by some nasty super-virus although the monsters look very similar to those in the game.
One character is a technician called "Pinky" who has a cybernetic wheelchair thanks to a bad teleporting accident. Pinky later mutates into something remotely resembling a creature from Doom 3. Producers claim that the film will be more of a horror than an action shooter.
There will be loads of shooting though, especially in the end where a large number of sequences will be shot purely in "first-person" perspective of the leading character (Karl Urban). The chainsaw and Bio Force Gun do appear in the film."

Resident Evil wasn't TOO bad. Well, it had a spooky atmosphere... a bit. :(
OK, point taken.
Then again, I got my daughter the Silent Hill - The Room PS2 game for Christmas, and that, even without making it into a film, scares the crap out of us at times!

Man, why do they have to mess with a good formula? The Doom games are great, why change the storyline around and screw the pooch in the process? This could have been a seriously good flick with the right direction, leaving the storyline alone and creating the right atmosphere of dread the games give you. This sucks...

Why the FUCK did they make those changes?!
"it's doom, but it doesnt have space marines, mars or monsters from hell. but it's still doom."
Bullshit. Thats like saying "Its a fish. i has no scales, cant breathe water, and looks like a cow, but it is still a fish." fucking retards. Their line of reasoning (if they had one...) must have gone like this:
Well... Everyone else who has made a movie off of a video game has completely fucked it up.... Why shouldnt we?
Hey! Look! Crushed Glass! Lets try marketting it as a snack to Burger King.
I hate these people. How fucking hard would it have been to make a doom movie true to the story? Need a mars set? Im sure Red Planet, Mission to MArs or even Total Recalll have some set pieces left over. And sweet fucking christ, you KNOW they are going to have cgi monsters init... Why the hell couldnt they get the first-draft cgi shit from id software? One o fhteir primary modelers worked as a special effects guy in hollywood for years, and the models they make for the game are immensly detailed, then get pared down fo rthe game release.
And not from hell? Pussy PC bullshit, that is all. Same crap happened back in 2nd edition Dungeons and Dragons. They were too afraid of being branded satanic so they changed the demons and devils to other things.... I fucking hate th entertainment industry... spineless dickheads.

Well they're never gonna make a Duke Nukem movie so it doesn't matter. I think The Rock will do a pretty good job in the Doom movie. He's not a great actor, but he certainly doesn't suck. The Rundown and the Walking Tall remake weren't bad. I'm definitely stoked for the film.

I agree Vod, it's a combination of the pussy PC bullshit and also directors/producers all wanting to 'reimagine' things and make it their own. They don't want to do the story justice by sticking with it as it's been told in the games, of course fleshing it out a bit to add some character but overall leaving it ALONE. They want to remake it in their image and ruin it, they're using a known franchise name and he's changing the story to where it will be utter bullshit and will suck major ass. Kinda like what they did with the new Battlestar Galactica, took a known franchise to push a weak story and cash in.

Well as the directors usually say, they don't wanna make the movie exactly like the game because then the audience will know what's coming and there won't be any suspense.
Don't they understand that's what we WANT?

That's true. There's nothing wrong with them changing some things around a bit but not major plot points (i.e. Marines instead of SWAT, not being demons etc) as that kills the story. Without even seeing this movie and just upon hearing the quick blurb here, if this is how this movie will progress it will miserably fail.

non of the Rock's movies have flopped so far, they may not've been all that popular but strictly speaking of the money they made non of them actually flopped and I don't think this one will either. One-it's a video game movie so that's one audience of people it has, two-The Rock is in the movie, that's a audience of wrestling fans that are going to see it then after that you've got people who are just going to want to see it for the action, because they see a trailer that interest them ect.

just come across some info on Empire.... The Rock was interviewed and he talked briefly about the film
btw it's going to get an R Rating and this one should make Vod a bit more confident... cgi wont be used for the creatures, apparantly the monsters will be all anamatronics, produced and made by Stan Winston who did Jurassic Park and Predator :) so things are looking a bit better.
** there are some spoilers in the interview ***

i personally think wrestling is for the insane... but thats just me :)
Re. The Rock goes .. he does have a commanding screen presence .. very likeable - watchable guy.
he may be the one thing to keep this movie from bombing -
it's just so 'off the radar' now ...
It's like when SpaceBalls came out years after Star Wars ... it lost a lot of punch due to the time gap

It still should not be called Doom. It isnt doom. I have a screenplay that i have been working on forever that could easily be called "Half-Life" because of some of the similarities, but if i sold it to a company and they called it that, i would sue them into oblivion. After Valve did, that is....

the movie as its self might be alright. as for a duke nukem flick would be great, and arnold would be duke. as for a quake movie sly stallone would be the leed. and for a max payne movie, it didnt even diserve or get a proper sequel. besides it wasnt that good of a game. i wouldnt mind seeing a onimusha film, a film based on G.T.A., a halo flick( which is pretty damn close to being made now), a half life movie, or a flick based off of ninja gaiden.

i think they should make a film for GTA 3, mainly cause it is the most modern and the gang wars would be fucking awsome.
