Seeing as it is the first official day off for me for Christmas Break, I thought I would check in to the site to see what's new. Doesn't seem to have changed that much, although there are a lot of new members.

I think the last time I posted was sometime before Halloween, and then that fucking election threw me into a deep depression that I have yet to spring back from. The administration at my school has hit us teachers with a massive new "portfolio" staff-development system, which has occupied much of my time, and the school that my child is attending this year has, I just discovered, been holding prayers in the classroom. It's pretty fucking crazy when you're an atheist family and one day your 5 year old sits down to dinner and blesses the food before launching into a chorus of "Jesus, the Glorious Counsellor". Suffice it to say, I had a few words with her teacher and principal; but, this looks like one of those instances where I may have to contact the ACLU. Her teacher accused me of not informing her of my religious orientation at the start of the year. I replied: "I'm sorry, but I didn't think it would have been necessary, since what you're doing is illegal. That's like a burglar getting upset with me because I didn't inform him that I was going to be home." She didn't see it my way, naturally.

Halloween went off pretty good. We went to Tennessee to spend it with my sister and her family, and my kid racked up on the candy: two Wal-Mart bags and a plastic pumpkin full.

As far as Christmas goes, I'm really looking forward to it. It is getting to be a greater and greater challenge for me to guess all of the gifts I am going to receive. It drives my wife crazy that I somehow manage to figure out most of what I'm getting before Christmas morning. I believe I will be getting a new computer, which will be great ... I have been dying to play Doom 3.

The only decent horror flick I have seen since I last posted was Shaun of the Dead. The wife constantly brings home the new releases from her store, and Shaun has been the only one worthwhile. I even watched Ju-on, The Grudge ... and thought it stunk. What can I say. It didn't fucking go anywhere! Some ghosts haunt a house and kill some people. The end. There is barely a plot at all.

I saw Saw at the theaters and was greatly disappointed. Not nearly as grisly or disturbing as the ads made it out to be. Give me Se7en anyday.

Woah, shit!!

Sorry. Huge dog just ran past my office window.

Hay Stingy nice to see you pay us a visit. I really miss the debates. I don't like to gloat but I said W would win. But at least you'll have Hiliary to vote for in "08"!

As you know I respect your opinion(s) and laud you for sticking to your guns for what you believe in, re: relgious beliefs. I do have a question though. As a self proclaimed Atheist why do you refer to the upcoming holiday as "Christmas"? Secularist's usually prefer not to use that word.

I think it's great you do, and let me be the first to say Merry Christmas to you, and your family.

Yay! Thanks for the "Welcome Returns" all. :)

MovieMan: We call the holiday "Christmas" just because both my wife and I grew up in households where Christmas was celebrated, and couldn't bear to break with tradition. We don't celebrate the birth of Christ, though. Instead, we celebrate surviving another year, look back on the memories of the year past, and just spend some nice time with family.

Fluff: what's with the Gren the Cake name? I haven't forgotten about the movie either (groan). Major writing projects really take a toll on me. I knew that when the school year started I wouldn't work on it. So much of my free time (when I get it) is spent preparing for those times that are not free. It really bites.

VampPenguin: Glad to see you're still using that avatar :) It's like seeing someone wearing that ugly sweater you gave them for a present.

Kpro: When did you come back? Is Nine9 lurking about here as well?

MasacreMan: Did you call me President? Or, are YOU president? (Careful how you answer. Remember, I'm still the funk from Nov. 11)

Anyway, gotta go eat some supper! Looking forward to learning about all the new people sometime within the next two weeks.

Zwoti: Sorry about the working on the 24th. The ONLY thing good about being a teacher is the breaks. Really.

Good for you Stingy. I think most people observe Christmas in that way too. It was just a question, and as you know I respect your opine.

I feel your pain. After working at a prison for nearly 18 years I've worked my fair share of Holidays. Even been forced over and had to do 16 hours on a couple because of call-in's. Senority has finally put me in a position to take the days off so it's not so bad anymore.

STINGY!!!! Great to see you again. Im sorry to hear about you kid's school situation. i would snap if i found out my kid was being taught prayer in school.

NH narrowly avoided electing a governer last time around that wanted to teach creationism in public schools. No offense people, but evolution is not a belief, it's science.

Anyway, i get the next week off, sarting friday, and the whole thing is being spent at home with my wife, partially with the goal of relaxing and WRITING my butt off. :D
