Kyrgyz Court Sentences Ethnic Russian Cannibal to Death
A court in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek has sentenced an ethnic Russian man to death for cannibalism and premeditated murder, Russia’s RIA-Novosti news agency reported on Monday.
The agency cited a source in a Bishkek city court as saying that the convict, Mikhail Trutnev, had been found guilty of cannibalism and premeditated murder.
Acording to investigators, in June this year Trutnev killed a colleague, skinned the body and cut it into several parts. He then boiled part of the flesh and froze some of it in a freezer. The cannibal dumped the head of his victim near his own apartment block.
A moratorium on the death penalty is currently in force in Kyrgyzstan. The country’s president has signed decrees to this effect five times before and will probably do so again at the beginning of January.
