...It's all just become a big excuse for wasting a lot of money and obtaining tons of crap

And I DO give into the commercialism so that my kids can have fun with it, too...

But, personally...I truly hate it...It's just a financial burden to me...I have ALWAYS hated shopping, and like I said, we really don't need anything...These kids pretty much get what they want (within reason), when they want it, throughout the year...Christmas is just completely irrelevant to me...It doesn't help that I HATE wasting money, and I can't stand materialism...We already have too much 'stuff' as it is...

see .. thats the same thing here too .. although it is cliche to say - i DO hate the commercialism .. the expectations .. mandatory bullshit ..

and my kids wants for nothing year round ..
he doesnt ever ask for anything .

@ BLOOD AND URGE

It is required of every man that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellow men! If it goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death! It is doomed to wander through the world! Oh, woe is me! And witness what it cannot share but MIGHT HAVE SHARED on Earth and turned to happiness!

I wear the chain I forged in life! I made it link by link and yard by yard! I gartered it on of my own free will and by my own free will, I wore it!

So take heed blood and urge...take heed.

I am with you on this one sis, my kids want not need not, they have more shit than they know what to do with.

We literally take a pick up truck full of toys and clothes to Salvation Army every year about this time.

Some will say my kids are spoiled, thats BULLSHIT, I didnt get shit when I was a kid, lucky to get food in my mouth. I promised myself that I would never put them through that shit.

Yule is for me and Xmas is for the kids, they are young yet so they still believe in Santa, and ifanybody ever tells them different I will kill them.

But I agree everything is commercial and politically correct whci really pisses me off.

I had a lady friend once who was upset cos' I told her that Sweetest Day was a frickin Hallmark holiday meant to drag more dough out of my pocket. More Commercial Bullshit. I took her out every weekend and most weeknights and gave her all kinds of shit. I dont need some greeting card manufacturer to tell me when its time to tell someone that I love them or care about them. I do it without being asked to or feeling pressured to.

Between myself and my lady, we'll probably go out to dinner, take in a movie, and chill.
Buy some pirated dvds and games for eachother.., get some cookwear n stuff...and grab any lil' trinkets that interest us at the time.
And consider that to be eachothers gifts.

My family doesn't really "do" the christmas thing, but my mother, brother and I might hook up and do lunch, have a bit of a gathering kinda thing...same again with my girls family.

Nothing so tangible I desire, only peace.

neways. i dont think its about 'prove to someone that u love them by spending money/time on valentines day'

its just a little incentive. i mean think, it would be a bit boring if we didnt have ANY holidays, birthdays..

i say yeh u should do little things year round, but why not have a little fun. its nice to have a theme and some colors, and just to be cute...

I'll be the first to agree that Christmas is overblown and waaay to commercial. Its never gonna change......its all about the money. But ya kinda hafta look at it in a different perspective...after all...thats what life is all about..perspectives.

You turn on the TV or open a newspaper and what do you have, war, murder, death, Britney........its enough to make anybody crazy. So if I can take a couple of weeks out of the year and try to forget all the other bullshit, and yes, spend a few dollars....if that what it takes...greedy bastards....so be it.

So for all you naysayers I say HO HO HO.
