Is there anything out there in the world that actually impresses you? Anything that shows some originality and gives you hope for the future of entertainment? any new or up-and-coming movies, shows, games, books, foods, ANYTHING that doesnt make you say "Oh jesus, here we go again..." but actually makes you think "Wow!"?
I have at least one thing, and i am sure many of you saw this coming:
Half-Life 2. i have never been so impressed by a game before, and i am easily impressed (in some cases). The environment is beautiful, there was a LOT of love put into the world itself. The charcter animations are great. not quite on par with what pixar puts out in theaters, but that level cant be too far off.
By far and away, the most fun i have had with a weapon in a video game so far was playing with the gravity gun last night. You can interact with almost any object using it. I just started in Ravenholm, which is a zombie-infested gothic hell, just after you get this marvelous weapon. There is nothing like firing a giant circular-saw blade at a zombie and watching it shower the area with blood as it's torso is cut in half, or firing a barrel at one and smashing it inot a wall.
Ohyes, and if you happen to catch one on fire? It screams, a lot. Apprently, the human hosts to the headcrabs arent quite completely dead yet.... it is unnerving.

Maylox (spelling ?)
it actually works.
CGI .. when needed. It has made the impossible possible.
MP3s. Walkmans, Wireless networking...
I'm lucky in a sense to be old enough to have lived half my life when these things didnt exist ...
To see dreams come true (sci fi movies that actually look real)
has been something wonderful .. I dont take them for granted.
And to share Vod's game entheusiasm which spurned him to post this topic in the first place ...sure, the well made PC games that turn your screen into another world with creatures, danger, gorgeous alien landscapes and architecture from hell ...
yeah i'd say i'm pretty impressed with those too .. even if i dont have the time to play them now ...

Things that really impress me
Dodge pickup Cummins Turbo Diesel-who could of thought that
I could get 325 horse out of a 6 cylinder engine and still get 15-20
miles per gallon.
Armalite AR15-This is the most beautiful weapon that I have ever owned and it works flawlessly.
S&K Tools- they are dirt cheap and work just as good as Snap-on
Pilot V Ball Grip pens- I write, a lot, and most freehand and then transfered to a computer later, the ink flows form this pen like.....................ink flowing form a pen, I dont know I cant describe it but I wont buy any other.
Edelbrock Carbs- way better than a Holley, gearheads know what I mean, no leaks, change the jets without yanking the carb.
TSL Boggers- nothing slings the mud on your 4x4 like these, and they sound like thunder rolling down the street.
Light bulb-I dont know who made this bulb I have in my nightstand lamp but I havent changed it in 7 years and its on all the time. That being said it will probably go out now.

I'm impressed with the fact that they are now begining to mass produce different robots for personal use.
Robo-Sapien, for one.
And for another, I saw this thing today for a little vacuum robot that is basically self sufficient. Say goodbye to vacuuming.
I can only imagine that 20 years from now, we'll all have robot butlers like in the Jetsons.
And in 50 years, our robots will start to overtake us like in I,Robot.
Then another 50 years after that Morpheus will seek out Neo and unplug him from the Matrix.
